    Cuenca looks like it'd be right up my alley, I love walkable cities with lots of culture! The national park looked breathtaking. And the cleansing ritual at the market is something I'd definitely want to experience 😄

      Absolutely worth a few dollars to give the cleansing a try! We saw lots of locals lining up for their regular treatment.

    You seem LOCAL... because of your DOGGIES! ❤. Traveling with dogs is a huge effort, most of us know, so I think we assume that the lovely humans must be from the neighborhood.

      We do get a lot of tourists coming up to us and asking for directions! They assume that we live there because we have dogs. 😂

    Nice video but the main market in Cuenca is the Gran Feria on Las Americas. It supplies all the other markets including 10 De Augosto. The limpias are fun. The Cajas are magical.

    Is it safe to consume drinks and fruit that you buy on the street? I've had some epic cases of "turista" from doing that in Mexico.

      Did you wash your hands before eating?

    • @OurFreedomYears
      @OurFreedomYears  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Unlike Mexico, the water in Cuenca is safe to drink. This really added to our comfort when buying street snacks and eating salads in restaurants. We didn't experience any illness.

    • @victoriaguerin2851
      @victoriaguerin2851 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fourthdeconstruction Yes, but that's not the problem in Mexico; it's the water. They're used to it but we are not. Many restaurants serve filtered water, but street stalls usually do not. I've gotten sick from buying delicious sliced mangoes that were cut with a knife which the seller dipped into a bucket of tap water after each serving.

    • @OurFreedomYears

      We noticed the altitude more in Quito and while hiking in the Ecuadorean highlands. By the time we got to Cuenca, we felt fairly acclimatised. We didn't notice the altitude at all in Medellin.

    We are worried about traveling with our little doggies. What is the longest flight you will do with your two dogs?

    • @OurFreedomYears
      @OurFreedomYears  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To date, the longest flight was 12 hours from Singapore to Poland. We would prefer a maximum flight of 8 to 10 hours as there is only so long that the little dogs want to go without a proper washroom break. Here's our tip sheet for traveling with a dog bit.ly/3oF4OMc

    • @raindances3310
      @raindances3310 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OurFreedomYears Thank you so much! I will get that. Does that time include all airport time or just the flying? With needing to be there 3 hours before a flight and unloading usually taking at least an hour, that's such a long time for the dogs.

    • @OurFreedomYears
      @OurFreedomYears  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@raindances3310 That only includes the flying time, although we do try to avoid such long flights whenever possible or schedule them as an overnight. We give the dogs a little walk in the airport just before and immediately after the flight....we just find a quiet corner and carry paper towel and sanitizer for the clean up.
