Ankle Pick Takedown for No Gi BJJ

  • I received several requests for a Ankle Pick for BJJ. So I wanted to cover it.
    I've used the Ankle Pick for years. Starting back in High School wrestling as a teenager.
    While I prefer the Ankle Pick in No Gi BJJ. I do use the Ankle Pick in Gi Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. I just change the grips a bit since the kimono can get in the way.
    It's worth noting that I've been able to use this takedown in BJJ competitions and tournaments as well as regular everyday rolling.
    In this BJJ technique video I show a really basic setup to the takedown. Touching on details about proper grips and body positioning. Then following the takedown I discuss arm positioning.
    What I like about this takedown in BJJ is that it is effective and it doesn't put someone at too much risk for things like Guillotine chokes. And if done right it's a smooth technique and doesn't rely on brute power.
    So if you're looking to at another takedown to the mix for your Brazilian Jiujitsu. Give the Ankle Pick a try.
    Hope the BJJ video is helpful!

    im gonna critique though the wrist to hand grip is best utilized in between the thumb crevice with the thumb, index in overlapping the joint of thumb, the remaining 3 wrap around the beginning of the wrist and the joints of the opponents palm to the beginning of the wrist. The reason I say that is because you shutdown their thumb to pinky mobility while simultaneously shutting down wrist movement. You would be surprised at how much more control you get on the hand and wrist when you grab it perfectly. It hurts the opponent slightly and they have no wrist control.

    Once down, the hand that lets go of the neck has a very short distance to travel to become the underhook for a knee slide. Just a thougt.

      look up a gracie breakdown of anderson silva vs chael sonnen. They demonstrate the triangle defence that chael tried to use. I started bjj when i was 15 so i would regularly get crushed by all the adults but this escape worked well for me.
      Its where you try to come up to your feet and then sit back to cross your feet over your opponent and arch back to break the triangle. I found that using my entire body like that was enough to break the triangle even as a skinny 15 year old (probs 60kg think thats around 130lb)

      Elbow them in the head

    • @zeaferjones1404
      @zeaferjones1404 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The wrist control is nothing more then an illusion to get your opponent to think you are doing something else. The key is pulling them with that collar tie so they step and to time the step by grabbing their ankel. The wrist control is so he thinks you are attacking the other leg you let go of the wrist as soon as the ankle pick is available.

    • @RobRIPDG
      @RobRIPDG 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also if he yanks his arm back, just drop for the ankle pick more wrestling style.
      You're better off bringing them real low, also I always walk back with this grip. I'll usually reef to one side, step back, drag down, reef, push forward, reef, back step pull down and shoot.

    Don't like the way he "controls" the head in the clinch. Holding on to the opponents neck does nothing. He can still posture up.
    It's better to grab the back of the opponents head. That way posturing up is way more difficult and energy consuming
