Tarbosaurus has to be the most badass dinosaur in the whole show. In S1, it splits a sea of dinosaurs in two; in S2, sauropods drop dead at it sheer presence. Dude only has to casually walk and he gets his desired outcome

It’s about dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals(Paleozoic to Mesozoic era)that are thriving on an island that was once going to be an amusement park that featured prehistoric animals but of course dinosaurs end up breaking out and claiming the island for themselves, also each dinosaur and animal has their own names, personality, ways of survival and of course their societies. Herbivores often do tolerate one another but those like Therizinosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Stegosaurus & Triceratops don’t often like certain herbivores (in fact the Theris don’t like anything because they’re so intolerant lol) also the carnivores mostly relay on survival like all animals do and they respect their kills whenever they made one showing they’re smart enough to acknowledge the circle of life.

The event they were talking about was the water that made the trees get leaves, which was miles away. In deserts, such events cause migrations of larger animals, in this case sauropods to travels to those areas.
So the velociraptors relying on the water miles away, to the the sauropods to move through their canyons, which gets the tarbosaurus there, which makes the herb panic and sends the prenochepale up to the velociraptor.

    • @BarelloSmith
      @BarelloSmith ปีที่แล้ว

As far as I remember he was actually referring to the changing winds that blew away the vulcanic fumes that enabled the podlets to walk through the lavafield. The migration of the sauropods is completely unrelated to the scene before, since the first scene takes place in India - which was an island near the South Pole at the time - and the second one takes places in Asia. That's not even the same hemisphere.

    • @dino_drawings

I think we are talking about two different things. Shortly before the scene changes to Asia, Attenborough said, that the hatchlings will need special circumstances to hatch, which they ought not miss but does not specify what he meant. Later, when we jump back, it is clarified that he meant the shifting winds. I can't remember any similar statement about the migrating sauropods but I don't think that BestInSlot was talking about that anyway.

The music in this episode, especially the opening segments is a banger. For me it sounds like a freakin Star Wars score, especially during the shots of burning lava. The baby Isisaurus lowkey got one of the best sound design, like it's an uncanny mix of familiar yet unique sound, like a bird chick with some crocodillian elements.

  • @joschuaknuppe5849
    @joschuaknuppe5849 ปีที่แล้ว +14

The Corythoraptor behavior is btw. directly based on fossil evidence. We know that some oviraptorosaurs, dromaeosaurs and troodontids layed bluish/greenish eggs, something that is modern birds appears to trigger the males to sit on them. it also appears that some nests were filled with so many eggs that they are unlikely to come from one female. So like in ostriches some of these dinosaurs probably had communal nests with the father sitting on the eggs.

personally I believe that putting Corythoraptor in the desert was a mistake. There are oviraptorids from the same location as Kuru kulla. The Corythoraptor looks totally out of place because of its colours. I totally agree with you mentioning this. A recolour would've been enough to resolve this.

Worth mentioning the level of detail Season 2 has gone into regarding its depictions, to the point where it even corrects subtle things from Season 1. If you look at the sauropods, they walk with a transverse gait in Season 2, whereas they definitely don't when used in Season 1. Nice to show that even as the seasons progress in quick time, the show is agile enough to keep up with scientific advances!

Tarbosaurus is actually unusual in that it has a narrower muzzle and more blade-like teeth for its size than most tyrannosaurids (especially given that the only tyrannosaur larger than it, rex itself, has the broadest muzzle and most conical teeth of any tyrannosaur). It’s not as well-adapted to hunt smaller sauropods as the allosauroids were, but it’s certainly better-suited for it than any other tyrannosaur.

Speaking of Kuru and Corythoraptor. The consultants did explain some of their choices on twitter.
    1.Kuru’s appearance:
One of the reason that they decided to include Kuru stems from the fact that Prehistoric Planet’s “Velociraptor” was not really THE Velociraptor. And that although there are several anatomical differences between Kuru and Velociraptor. These differences might be very hard to distinguish in living specimans.
    2.Out-of-place Corythoraptors:
Well, the consultants did want to make a notion that “Some Plaeofauna might lived in a wider range than what fossil records suggest”.

The Prehistoric Planet's "Velociraptor" is actually Adasaurus (evil reptile), a large velociraptorine dromaeosaurid (7.8 ft. and 80 lb.) that coexisted with other fauna of the Nemegt Formation that are featured so far, such as Tarbosaurus, Nemegtosaurus, Barsboldia, Mononychus, Tarchia, Therizinosaurus, Prenocephale, and Mongolian Titans.

  • @cintronproductions9430

The Prenocephales. Just, the Prenocephales. Why are they so perfect? Oh uh anyway, yeah, this was another great episode. I liked Islands more, but this one is still great. Why are the Corythoraptors in the desert tho? I guess they wanted to get away from Quianzhousaurus. XD I also love the irony of a dinosaur that belongs to a family called the egg thieves getting its eggs stolen. And it was nice to be introduced to the Kuru kulla. I would have liked it better if they made the Kuru look a little less like Velociraptor, but eh, I guess it's ok, they're closely related anyway. The cgi on all the animals is gorgeous and photorealistic, but as with season 1, there's just something about the Corythoraptors that makes them look so dang real. The textures on their heads are just insane. Oh and again THE PRENOCEPHALE, OMG I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. They're just these little annoying things with grumpy faces, aww. The Prenocephale getting Mufasa'd by the raptors was fricking brutal tho, the raptor literally falcon kicked the poor bastard off da cliff! Anyway, the adult Isisaurus were beautiful, the baby Isisaurus were so adorable, and the Rajasaurus have a gorgeous design, and I love how we're getting more abelisaurs this season. Overall a solid episode, and I can't wait for Swamps tomorrow. :)
Edit: Also it's neat that we not only got to see the Nemegtosaurus up close, but they were identified as Nemegtosaurs unlike last season, so that 100% comfirms they're Nemegtosaurus and not that other named Nemegt sauropod whose name starts with O (I won't even TRY to write such a name XD).

Am I the only one who thinks, that they reused the model for the "Velociraptor" for the Kuru kulla? It looks exactly the same to me.... If so, then you have your answer to, what the Velociraptorine actually is, however it would make the last season even more anachronistic, since Kuru is even slightly older than Velociraptor, as far as I know.

Badlands was yet another amazing episode.
Segment 1: Deccan Traps was a really cool seting, intrestingly some studdies suget that dinosaurs where already struglign in India by the time the asteroid hit, due to how much the lava fields had spread to such a huge degree that it had really devestated populations over a corce of hundreds of years, in India, Southen Asia and I belive even parts of Africa. And indeed the Isisaurus designs are amazing.
Segment 2: Back in Mongolia with the ADORABLE little Velociraptorine chicks. I adore the way they are animated, along with hearing the Raptor motif by with a more cute and playful beat to it. The sauropod migration along with the Prenocephale, plus the journey though the canyons and the fact the Tarbos where stalking around reminded me of Disneys Dinosaur, some of which is incredibly similar in shot composition. And its nice to see the realized version of that concept art of a Pachy been hunted by Raptors. Fantastic segment
Segment 3: Another really cool segment, I have my slight issues with the Corythoraptor colouring but non the less they are amazingly well crafted models, and the behaviour is a really nicely potrayed one. Kuru kulla was unexpected but faschinating, the scientists that described is certainly where exited to see this. I also agree that the reason they probalby dint do another model for one of the countless Nemegtian Oviraptorsaurs or ones that lived with Kuru might be a money and time thing. Kuru babies adorable too, especially them trying to figure out how eggs break.
Segment 4: Tarchia brothers where neat, some lovely shots and pretty nice including modern desert animal behaviours to the ones here. Prenocephale is in that amazing balence of cute, gremlin looking and beautiful at the same time. And as you mentioned the males are wonderfully coloured, even the females have neat lavander grey patternings. Will say slight issue I have with the tail waving is that its a bit too wavy, given that clubed ankylosaurs had really stiff tails to be able to absorb forces of impact. Neat that the adult Tarchia also had some broken and cracked osteoderms, really shows its age nicely along with the colour. Overall pretty neat segment.
Segment 5: The Isisaurus podlets are adorable! Love the fact that their birdy calls complement the egg tooth and face that kinda looks like a bird. And the dung eating while unexpected was neat given how it is important for many baby animals. The Rajasaurus is phenomenal, I love their animations, they feel fast, powerfule and fierce. Some quite suspencefull moments when it was lurking around and the babies where sneaking by.
Overall really solid episode I must say

I think I agree with your take on the pondering - though I'm glad it spent a decent amount of time with each scenario (as with Islands), and established a narrative particularly well with its bookended scenes in India, maybe it was weighted just a little too much in the direction of scenery shots. And, given the arid nature of the locations, I'd say there's only so much joy you can get from such shots.
But otherwise a very decent episode. The Rajasaurus design is absolutely fantastic - I love the details that establish it as a similar but different to the Majungasaurus from the last episode. Smaller and more backwards pointing horn on its head, shallower but slightly longer skull, and on top of that, it's beautiful colouration, which the Tarbosaurus also boasts.
Even if it was for budgetary reasons, I'm glad the Corythoraptor made a return, they look great. Perhaps because of the desert, they look a little less like cassowaries this time, but then again, cassowaries also have strong fatherhood values - chicks are looked after by the fathers for a few years, and I'm not sure the mother even looks into them.
Kuru kulla is actually a new one for me, had to stop and look it up, with uncertainty of the spelling. Its nest raiding and doting parenthood might have been my favourite part of the episode, not only because of the slightly comedic tone which didn't break the immersion or realism, but because, like with the Hatzegopteryx in the previous episode, it showed two sides to an animal that seems cruel or pleasant depending on your perspective. It's like I see plenty of media depictions with oviraptorids as egg-eaters - even Planet Dinosaur did this - and, although there's no direct evidence of it, oviraptorids being doting parents doesn't prevent them from also eating other dinosaurs' eggs.
I like that ankylosaurids are getting more screentime, and the whole oasis encounter did a nice job of showing herbivore rivalry but without having to resort to violence.
Honestly, it would have been better for that unfortunate Isisaurus baby to drown instantly than having to helplessly call out to its companions as they ignore it. :'o
Only other point - 30 years on, I'm kind of glad that the name 'Velociraptor' is still so awesome as to be applied as a label of awesome to creatures that don't technically belong to the genus.

If you're looking for a better name for the "Velociraptor", then _Shri devi_ is probably the best bet. It was previously regarded as a specimen of _V. mongoliensis_ when it was discovered in 1991, but then reanalysis in 2021 regarded it as a new taxon. It might not be what the producers had in mind as 2021 is probably a bit late into production, but in essence it's an animal very close to _Velociraptor_ (in fact, its sister taxon) from the Barun Goyot formation which we've already seen them use animals from.
Of course you could argue it's just an indeterminate velociraptorine, but there's at least an argument for calling it _Shri_ !

I suspect the Prenocephale are shown as a genus with sexual dimorphism. That one in the mugshot looks more blandly coloured than the blue-green-ish ones, which also happen to be the ones with the quilled tails, not all of them had it. From what I saw and interpreted, only the males were shown to have bright colours and tail quills. Or maybe they are on different stages of maturity, but regardless, is such a nice touch.

While season 2 has been very good, I think it has a major problem of episodes being too short. Especially if you consider theres the uncoverd segment, we’re only getting around 28 minutes of content.
