Two things : Sorry it's T-Rex in the title but...you understand. And I'm always hesitant to mention it because I'm a layman but I've had it confirmed to me after and the Shamosuchus just...doesn't look like a Shamosuchus to me?
No no thank you for saying it!! I work on extinct pseudosuchian phylogeny in my research so I was appreciative for at least **some** croc representation compared to S1, but Shamosuchus really got the short end of the stick. It shouldn't really be there anyway as it's exclusively known from the much earlier Djadochta formation. Paralligator is known from Nemegt and was previously synonymised with Shamosuchus, but found to be distinct in 2015... so I wonder if they got the two confused? Regardless, the live action footage really doesn't match the CGI model in morphology or colouration, and sadly it reinforces the message that crocs haven't changed at all in millions of years which doesn't do their diversity justice.
The shamosuchus looked fine to me. We have an incomplete skull to reference from, and of that skull, the sections we DO have look accurate to the show. The shamosuchus in PP fills in the blanks, because it has to. It would make no sense to give it a short snout because the snout on our fossils is snapped in half.
Nope you are completely right, it doesn't really match the fossil we have, complete or not, the anachronism and stuff is totally fine in my book and the shown behavior is cool but it doesn't really look like a Shamosuchus.
@@catpoke9557 I don't think anyone is arguing for a short snout? It's the inconsistency between the CG model and the live action footage that is being criticised, as modern crocs do not share the same morphology as paralligatorids like Shamosuchus. If it had been the CG model throughout the sequence it would have been fine, it's the suspense of disbelief when shown a modern croc and told it's the same animal as the more accurate CG model that's the issue.
I love how Prehistoric Planet acknowledges that even 2 rexes need to be smart and careful when hunting Edmontosaurus because of how large and dangerous they are.
I also noticed at 16:14 how the Tyrannosaur brothers seemed to have different skull shapes, with the one on the right having a flatter snout and less prominent brow crests. As I'm sure most of us know T. rex had a ton of skull shape variation so it's a really nice thing to see represented.
Despite being shorter than the previous episodes, this might be my favorite episode yet, I've waited a really long time to see Austroraptor in a Dinosaur Documentary, and now it has finally arrived and it's beautiful, I also like that we got to see some Pachycephalosaurs, and this episode ends with probably the best depiction of a T-Rex hunt, with them being ambush hunters, and at night, which is absolutely Terrifying to even think about.
There have been many-way too many-T. rex hunting scenes in paleomedia, but it took PhP to finally give us a *good* T. rex hunting scene (if only every large predatory theropods could get this treatment; for most of them good predation depictions don’t exist). Something that virtually every depiction of Tyrannosaurus adults ignores (especially in recent years) is that Tyrannosaurus was an animal that lived in heavily vegetated habitats, often around water, and that as an adult it was likely ambushing prey most of the time (though it would have been able to give chase if need be). This is the first depiction that really shows it hunting in this ecological and anatomical context as the stealthy, heavily built predator it was. Austroraptor was the other big highlight of this episode for me, and its media debut didn’t disappoint. The only real issue I have with it is that it didn’t sell scale very well.
Personal thoughts on the segments in Swamp: 1.Pterosaur: I don’t know if the CG model for Shamosuchus was accurate or not. 2.Auatroraptor: I really like this dinosaur in the segment ! I was a bit surprised by the sound design of the creature,as I expcted a dromaeosaurid would have a higher-pitched sound. However, considering many large flightless birds have deep and low vocalization, and the point that Austroraptors are 6 meter long. It is reasonable that they decided to go for a deeper vocalizations. 3.Devil Frog: I love the Rapetosaurus bathing themselves in the mud, while Beelzebufo being visibily troubled by the event. The Devil Frog can be adorable at times. 4.Friar Tuck: I think the producers integrated 2 interpretations of Pachy’s dome head. In which they would at first doing display, when this did not work, they started to headbutting each other. I also love that they included the “Omnivorous Pachycephalosaurus” in the segment. 5.T.rex Brothers: In my opinion,it is one of the best depictions of T.rex hunting behavior and the environment of Hell Creek formation. I love they showed T.rex being huge but stealthy hunter. Reminds me of Extinction Event,a spin-off novel of Primeval,in which they also portrayed T.rex as Huge but sneaky predator. As well as Edmontosaurus managed to put some resistance.
It's about time we see trex not only hunt but as a pair. We've always seen trex hunt by itself, this is by far one of the best sequences when see the most notorious predators show its true nature on how it works together. Even the Pachycephalosaurus design is the best within this episode, with the green color, dark patchy skins and bright colors in the Dome, it does give the two genders some class and shows some realistic values when the two males fight for social hierarchy within the herd. I can't wait for the remaining episodes!!
15:19 Hey, at least he didn't get his skull crushed. 16:05 They're actually meant to be brothers. According to the title of the soundtrack - "Tyrannosaurus Brothers".
I kinda suspect that "Swamps" is honestly just composed of the segments that didn't make it into Season 1's "Freshwater" and "Forests" episodes, which would be why it's the shortest episode thus far.
My favourite episode of season 2 so far, I think - just something about each sequence worked particularly well. I agree with your observation about the animation where Beezlebufo scrambles through some mud - that looked and sounded so jarringly real. That, and the birds-eye shot of it sitting half-submerged to call a mate made it look like a Super Mushroom. The Austroraptor looked so wonderful in design, and it was so good to have it, and its niche, in a documentary of this kind. I did kind of wish we'd gotten more South American animals, but I guess incorporating it into that sequence would have been difficult. But even more exciting for me was the Pachycephalosaurus design - again, I think this is its first documentary appearance despite it being rather well-known, it being known from Hell Creek, one of the favourite biomes to be depicted in paleodocumtaries, and it just looking so fundamentally dinosaurian. I love everything about what they did, pretty much - I love the spike ornamentation of the heads brings to mind both Dracorex and Stygimoloch, I loved the insect-nomming as well as the tree-headbutting, just nicely animated pieces of animal behaviour, and I loved how weighty the collisions between the sparring males felt. I also hadn't had the latest research of pachycephalosaur headbutting explained to me in full, so I'm glad that the Uncovered section focused on that, though, with the footage it showed of the bighorn rams, I noticed had a considerable pair of plums that were very unprotected. Anyway, the final sequence was incredible too - I loved the scenery, and I loved how the stage was set. Having shown T.rex in a couple of non-predatory, but still interesting, scenarios previously, I'm sure they had a lot of fun constructing this drama, because it's also different to how T.rex is traditionally portrayed, but still utilizing its adaptations as a predator to make it terrifying. It doesn't roar and stomp, but its silence and night ambush hunting serve to play up the horror element too. And, to be fair to Jurassic Park, for all its datedness, without it mainstream popularity of dinosaur science probably wouldn't exist, and it set the trend, and their T.rex first hunted at night, and spent plenty of time contemplating and playing up the suspense between more dramatic moments. All the same, it's also good that PP pointed out just how good their eyesight was too. I feel a bit sorry for the dear Eds. They in particular tend to always be the T.rex chow. All the same, like you said, the whole attack felt like it gave this animals their proper weight, and the narration was quick to point out they could be quite powerful. I guess when it's 2 against 1, the odds really are stacked against you. As for my favourite Trike design in that line-up you screenshotted, I would say it's the one on the left.
speaking of believability, we also have tibetan fox today. So Austroraptor being had a weird face isn't that far fetched, because Tibetan Fox also looks unreal.
Ngl, I was really hoping the Edmontosaurus put up more of a fight. I've been dying to see a defensive hadrosaur, and I think this would've been the perfect time to show it. But I guess trying to fight two T. rex is still hard, and they caught it off guard. I really enjoyed the other segments. Austroraptor is one of my favorite dinosaurs, so it's super awesome to finally see it in action. The Rapetosaurus mud wallowing was fun. And I'm super glad to see another crocodilian.
That was the best Rex hunt since When Dinosaurs roamed America. A shame we didn't get to see a Deinosuchus though. But the Pachy and Austroraptor scenes were awesome. Edit: Beelzebufo was adorable.
@@bkjeong4302 Yeah. Although it's already controversial amongst people who wanted the Edmonto to win, it was still a fantastic scene. The suspense, the action, the camera angles, the horror elements, the perfect showcasing of how effective rexes were at hunting, it was peak cinema and puts many other (if not all) rex hunt scenes to shame. And in the Ed's defense, how was it gonna win against TWO creatures literally designed to hunt it?
The Austroraptor is my favorite dinosaur and I was so happy to see it in Prehistoric Planet! But I will agree that I had the same feeling with the design, loved it but for some reason it also put me out of the emersion, the main thing for me was the eyes for some reason it felt too real with the white out line of the eyeball when the Austroraptors look around, compared to the design of the head.
I wonder if the Mongolian Giant is also meant to be those pterosaurs we saw back in Season 1, who came and fed on the carcass after the Tarbosaurs left?
My Favourite episode so far, all the segments were interesting to watch. I hoped that Deinocheirus would make small guest appaerance, but at the end I couldn't care less that it was absent. My only gripes were that the episode could have been longer, and the CGI Shamosuchus felt kinda of. But the rest of the oppening was wonderful, especialy the moment where baby azdarchid flies above the water with the main theme playing.
Imagine they bookended the episode with the revenge of an adult azdarchid, who attacks the babies of the Shamosuchus. Would fit the baby murder theme of PP.
My favorite episode I think as of now. I just love the rex segment it is so fantastic and proves that accurate dinosaurs can be scary as well. This was something I‘ve wished to see for sooo long
When the Beelzebufo was trying to get to the little puddle, made by the rapetosaurus and it fell down the little hill and it rolled down, honestly made me feel bad for the poor little baby murderer 😅.
This might be my favorite one so far. I'd say all the segments except the first one are top tier. I loved seeing Austroraptor in all its funkiness, Rapetosaurus ruining the frog's sex life by taking a mudbath was hillarious, the Pachycephalosaur duel was beautifully intense, and the T .rex hunt at the end might be my favorite depiction of predation for that species. Also nice to finally see a true faithful recreation of Hell Creek
I think the reason for the shorter episodes is because this stuff was cut from S1 (or that’s the speculation at least). And also for an episode labeled “Swamps” it didn’t always feel that swampy. I could see some of this being cut out of last seasons Wetlands and Forest episodes and then re-labeled as Swamps because it kind of fit
I remember I was a little miffed about people asking for more Theropod hunts back when Season 1 aired, thinking about how people didn't just "get" the fact that the documentary was supposed to show a different side of Dinosaurs, with T. rex being a prime subject... That said... I was giddy as hell during the T. rex hunt, quite an inventive scenario if I say so myself and the Edmonto put a decent fight against *two* rexes, probably as exciting as the scene could get while respecting the restrictive age limit. Turns out I'm really *that* basic 🤣
I liked the austroraptor, but it does have some tibetan fox face vibes, but like the poor uncanny valley fox, it might just be a symptom of having a head shaped like that, lol.
Yeah the episode was too short and a wasted opportunity to bring back Deinocheirus. Other than that... The Hell Creek.scene was fantastic, pure art. I loved the headbutting scene as well, really excited to see that play in the screen in a paleo doc, Pachy is one of my favorite dinosaurs. However i was a bit let down by the coloration. Austroraptor is also one of my favorite national dinosaurs along with Carnotaurus, and while the segment was really nice and fun, again the designed was a bit too "cute" for me. I think it was because of their eyes, they look too "human" to me rather than bird like. Also the CGI wasn't the best for them either, maybe something about the lightning. The beelzebufo scene was really fun too.
I actually watched it last night because I lived in Los Angeles where it's time 10:00 P.M. while London is 6:00 A.M.. So if everyone lived in Los Angeles at the time 10:00 P.M., so new episodes will release at 6:00 A.M. in London.
I will say that during the Austroraptor segment I felt as though the scale seemed off. The gar was described as 3 feet in length and the Austroraptor was up to 20 feet in length. I don't know if this is only me but it felt like the gar seemed to be tiny making the raptors in turn look a lot smaller than described. Also the sizing with the foliage made it seem as if they were at most 7-8 feet in length. Just a small part I felt was off
Swamps was a pretty cool one. Segment 1: The Mongol Giant flaplings where adorable as in season 1, Shamosuchus did give me a slight jolt cause I didnt see it coming, in both sences of the word tho I do have my issues with them and how the model doesnt quite look like what a Shamosuchus should along with the CGI been a bit wonky in some shots, and while some crocodiles are pretty capable on land, with Aligators even using game trails to set up ambushes, I feel like the Shamosuchus was been a wee bit too active. That last part tho with the Flapling as it was escaping with the main theme, geting booped out the sky and still escaping was quite a suspenceful moment. Segment 2: A pretty neat one remenisent of bears gathering during salmon runs, I wander if the reason the Austoraptor looks so odd to you and mayhaps some others is due to how uncany the proportions, their short wings and claws and the face especially. Not to mention it been quite large for its size. Among the largest theropods in its formation in fact, but in general really good design. Also I could have swarn I heard them make a vocalization that sounds like the JP3 Spino among the other deep sounds they make which is not something one is used too when it comes to raptors where one expects shrieks and high pitched noises. And yes Sir Davids narration is always a joy to hear, for a 95 year old man he still is as lively as a child and I adore it. Segment 3: Probably episode highlight hahahaha. Beelzebufo looks and moves phenomenly in a realistic way, even how he strugles to hop due to his large weight, and his little mission to get to a water sorce. Rapetosaurus was also pretty neat. Also fun fact I remember geting exited when the segment was show in a trailer, cause I was in a stream with Joschua Knüppe whne he drew some "What Ifs" for Season 2 and one was a Beelzebufo guarding its eggs in a sauropod footprint. Which we sorta got so that gave me a smile. Segment 4: Pachys where awesome! Its been a long time since one had a spotlight in media, I love how they feel almost like horses with how they are behaviour wise, and their odd proportions with their long legs, their tiny arms. Them switching to omnivory in tough times is also a neat way to explore things. Their vocalizations are also really intresting too, you can also really feel the force of when those male Pachys where headbutting, plus neat to also see one using its head to knock down a tree. Segment 5: Despite been something that is considered a "classic" this is the best its ever been depicted. The opening shots of Hell Creek are amazing, with the lush and vibrant medows, forests and waterways as Edmontos and Trikes are going about their days, and the slight fake out with the Rex Brothers had my heart for a moment, also I like the Trike on the left, but the middle one is great too. The night time hunt was phenomenal, people often forget how surprisingly silent giant animals can be, even elephants can be incredibly sneaky if they want too, and even when the ambush sprung, I like how they both say and show that Edmontosaurus is a massive animal, how it even was able to land some kicks and hits in its eforts to escape, and how it took 2 adult Rexs to be able to bring it down. Tyrannosaurs hunting Hadrosaurs may be commen in media, but this is definetly THE best execution of it.
The thing about the "believability" of the Austroraptor it's an Uncanney Valley thing. It's not that the model isn't rendered at the high standard this series presents, it's oh so much simpler: The eyes. It has white sclerotics with dark irises, they sort of resemble human eyes therefore this "feels" humanish so our brain rejects it.
Greece here; Because pachycephalosaurus stems from 3 Greek words (pachys (παχύς) = thick, cephali (κεφαλή) = head, saura (σαύρα) = lizard) if you wanna stay true to the Greek pronunciation you should pronounce it pachy with ch pronounced as in A*ch*illes and cephalo with c pronounced as in *c*lose. But I would agreed that I might have not heard any non-Greek pronounce it like Attenborough.
I have a theory, the final episode of prehistoric planet 2 is in north america and the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs struck near it. So what if the final episode shows the extinction of the dinosaurs.
Surprised we didn't see any of the giant crocodilians like Sarco or Deinosuchus. But for the triceratops my favorite was the one that resembled a long horn cattle with the parted horns.
Austroraptor meeting with others traveling around the swamps is a reference to Demon School Iruma Kun in which it hunts down fish, runs, and fights the other male for its mate just like Iruma trying to fall for a woman.
I highly doubt the Prehistoric Planet animation would include reference to an obscure anime. You're clearly just seeing what you wanted to see, which is just fine. Believe anything you want to believe
I find it interesting your view on the Austroraptor. I find it to be genuinely one of the best looking dinosaur so far. The Shamosuchus, even the CGI model looked pretty bad for me though.
I really enjoyed the rex hunt. Did it justice compared to it being the loser in JW films constantly. Edmontosaurus wasn't just free food which did it justice as well.
Of course I would love each episode to be three hours long, but I'm not too upset by the slightly shorter length. The uncovered sections at the end are really well done, and I think they are important for the layman. For example, my mum was under the impression that the dino behaviors were entirely speculative and a bit of a stretch. The uncovered sections (along with my explanations) has let her know that while there is a lot of speculation going on, it is all based in some sort of logic and/or evidence and this show is our best guess on the reality of the world in which Dinosaurs lived. Side note: I thought I would be disappointed by the amount of returning dinosaurs from season 1, but the new behaviors on display of the returning species along with the new ones that have appeared have really fleshed out the late cretaceous period. It gives other dinosaurs that aren't usually featured a chance to shine. Still hoping for a Jurassic setting for season 3 though.
The Beelzebufo and T. rex sections were the absolute highlight of this episode, the Pachycephalosaur scene being quite remarkable as well My favorite moment about the Austroraptor was the fighting scene between the adults, it felt pretty tense!
WHY DO I ALWAYS WATCH A NEW EPISODE EVERYDAY AND CHECK YT AND A PREHISTORIC PLANET VID COMES OUT IN YT 40 MINUTES AGO FROM APPLE TV WHEN I CHECKED IT AFTER WATCHING THE EPISODE WAS FINISHED? !
Ok, while I enjoyed Badlands, I loved Swamps even more. It was kinda comparatively short, but the segments more than made up for this. It was great to see prehistoric crocodilians, and it was also great to see the bizarre Austroraptor in all its long-snouted, fish-eating glory. I gotta admit, in the trailer the Austroraptor looked kinda weird, almost plastic-y, but in the actual show it actually looks very good and impressive. Oh but the Beelzebufo, I already loved it in season 1 despite its brief screentime, and I loved it even more here. The animations and textures on the frog look so..... darn...... REAL...... like seriously, it's like they legit just filmed an actual frog, but no, it's pure CGI, which is nothing short of impressive; I feel like I can just touch the Beelzebufo through the screen! And despite being an infamous baby-eater, the Beelzebufo in this episode was absolutely adorable for some reason. Anyway, now onto the Pachy segment. I loved it. And I'm not just saying this simply because Pachys are my favorite dinosaur. The designs of the Pachys are spectacular, and their fight was amazing and intense. I like how they didn't just headbutt, they performed a mixture of head-butting, flank-butting and straight up wrestling, it was a spectacular sight. Oh and I liked how the Pachys are slightly omnivorous as they nibbled on some bugs. Nice touch. As for the T.rex hunt, ok, I know we've seen rexes hunting before but this hunt has got to be one of the best rex hunts ever put to screen, if not THE best. The fact that the rexes act like realistic predators makes their hunt even scarier than any other T.rex attack in fiction, cuz any other T.rex would be roaring like there's no tomorrow and shaking the ground with every step. But no, not these rexes. They're huge yet silent, stealthy and intelligent, and they only announce their presence if they WANT their prey to know they're there. And ok, I know some people are upset about the Edmonto going down cuz it seemingly reinforces weak hadrosaur stereotypes, but come on, in its defense, A, the rexes had this hunt planned, B, it was night, C, there were TWO rexes ganging up on the Ed, D, it actually TRIED to fight back if u pay attention, and E, the Ed actually survived a couple bites to the neck before going down, showing just how deceptively strong these hadros are. And the T.rexes were clearly struggling to a degree, it took both of them working together to bring down such a behemoth. Seriously, say what u want about this scene, but u can't deny it was PEAK CINEMA. :)
I think, so far, it was the weakest episode in the season, perhaps even in the series. Various segments didn't really fit in a swamp setting (T-rex and pachy). Also I think the general the basic premise of Prehistoric Kingdom of showing prehistoric animals doing things we had never seen them do before was left out in favour of cool fight scenes with iconic animals everyone already knows (one cool thing they could have done was make the t-rex hunt unsuccessful with the edmontosaurus fighting back and driving the hunters away). Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed certain parts of the episode immensely: the Beelzebufo segment was hilarious and the CGI was spot on in terms of what an actual frog looks and behaves like. The austroraptor sound design was also great. All in all, I see this episode as a slightly worse version of the freshwater episode from season one minus the amazing velociraptor hunt opening scene.
Yo.. so apparently my TV glitched because I went to prehistoric planet and the episode oceans was on there and I'm like ummmmmmmmm HUH so I don't know what happened
Was hoping for the Edmontosaurus to survive, sucks how they are the main ones to always be killed. They really stacked the odds against them though with 2 Tyrannosaurus and in the night, they just can't catch a break.
I actually did not like the 1st segment. The water effects look awful, especially compared to the Beelzebufo segment. Another complaint is that most segments do not tie in very well with Swamps. The Rex Hunt is fantastic, but would be better in Forests than Swamps.
I personally would have liked to see the Edmontosaurus fight back against the Tyrannosaurus in some way. Like I would have taken at least the Edmontosaurus kicking one of the Tyrannosaurus in the face making it flinch or something like that when the T.Rex’s pushed the Edmontosaurus onto its back. In my opinion seeing how much damage horses can do and hadrosaurs being twice the size of horses ( or at least some of them ) I refuse to believe that hadrosaurs were as helpless as most people think they are. Still a pretty cool scene though!
I absolutely loved this whole episode, I've enjoyed the series up until this point too don't get me wrong, but including season 1 this was the first episode to give me that true Walking With Dinosaurs feeling, I absolutely loved it, the Baby Pterosaurs Vs the Crocs, Austroraptor, Beelzebufo trying his hardest to get a mate and dealing with annoying sauropods, the Pachycephalosaurus battle and finally T-Rex hunting in all its glory, fantastic episode easily my favourite. Oh and finally, get f***ed Jack Horner
The animation is **objectively** incredible. You are clearly just nitpicking. Sure you may think it's "worse" than the other episodes. But it's still 100x better than anything you could ever dream of making.
@@joema500 hmm, last I checked, that's not the definition of "objectively," but to counter your other point, my ability is not in question (while we're at it with ad hominems, Do you have a degree in ethology?). What is in question is, do the animals behave like animals, and no, they don't. They behave like a filmmaker's interpretation of how an animal might behave. It's a dead giveaway when you can tell what is and isn't computer generated not by simply what is obviously computer generated, but by the difference in how things act. For example, the crocodiles were distinctly different in the shots in which they attacked the pteranodons and the shots which were actual footage of crocodiles. Or compare the pachys with the big horn sheep. There is a subtlety to real animals that is not translated to the animation. This has been an issue with the whole series, but this episode was the worst offender. Couple that with the fact that this was shorter than the others (objectively), and the fact that apart from the austros and the pachys there was nothing that new, this was the weakest episode. Notice I said weakest, I didn't say it was bad, just worse than the others. Come up with better arguments next time.

Personal thoughts on the segments in Swamp:
1.Pterosaur:
I don’t know if the CG model for Shamosuchus was accurate or not.

However, considering many large flightless birds have deep and low vocalization, and the point that Austroraptors are 6 meter long. It is reasonable that they decided to go for a deeper vocalizations.

4.Friar Tuck:
I think the producers integrated 2 interpretations of Pachy’s dome head. In which they would at first doing display, when this did not work, they started to headbutting each other. I also love that they included the “Omnivorous Pachycephalosaurus” in the segment.
5.T.rex Brothers:
In my opinion,it is one of the best depictions of T.rex hunting behavior and the environment of Hell Creek formation.
Another amazing episode
Felt bad for the pachy who got exiled
Nah, he deseeved it
He deserved it.
What he gets for bullying
I think this is my favourite PP episode yet! Yes it was very short but every sequence had me gripped. And the T-Rex hunt 😚👌
To be fair, fleeing is the most common reaction by prey that's being hunted, even when they're perfectly capable of defending themselves
the shot of the t rex eating the edmontosaurus framed by the trees is now the background on my computer its that good
That was the best Rex hunt since When Dinosaurs roamed America. A shame we didn't get to see a Deinosuchus though. But the Pachy and Austroraptor scenes were awesome.
Edit: Beelzebufo was adorable.
This is actually a far superior rex hunting sequence than in WDRA, or really anything for that matter.
@@bkjeong4302 the when dinosaurs roamed America one was more intense and entertaining but less accurate I guess
Deinosuchus was already a fossil by the time T. rex evolved, so no chance of seeing it at all here.
@@arthmann2 huh. So it does. I always thought they were on the same time period. Another TIL then.
I think the name of the theme playing during the hunt is called 'T. rex Brothers'. Amazing episode, one of my favourites of the show.
We had better get a frogger spinoff where it's just beelzebufo dodging sauropods.
I wonder if the Mongolian Giant is also meant to be those pterosaurs we saw back in Season 1, who came and fed on the carcass after the Tarbosaurs left?
probably - I don't think there was any other azdarchid in Mongolia discovered
@@4K1R4-00 there is azhdarchid material known from stomach content of an Velociraptor.
I also think they were the juveniles that were being hunted by the velociraptor(ine)s on the waterfall cliffside.
Checking out the ost it is revealed that the rexes are actually brothers! That’d definitely explain the similar patterning
Imagine they bookended the episode with the revenge of an adult azdarchid, who attacks the babies of the Shamosuchus. Would fit the baby murder theme of PP.
David Attenborough is an adorable old man who had me giggling a cpl times throughout this episode! Lol
My favorite episode I think as of now. I just love the rex segment it is so fantastic and proves that accurate dinosaurs can be scary as well. This was something I‘ve wished to see for sooo long
BiS, your enjoyment of this series is infectious, and I am enjoying your reviews as much as I am enjoying the show itself.
When the Beelzebufo was trying to get to the little puddle, made by the rapetosaurus and it fell down the little hill and it rolled down, honestly made me feel bad for the poor little baby murderer 😅.
I never thought a Beelzebufo could be so adorable yet here we are. XD
@@cintronproductions9430 especially after what it did in dinosaur revolution and prehistoric planet season 1 😂
This has got to be my favorite episode in the series so far
Definitely my favourite episode thus far.
Based on the released soundtrack the rexes seem to be a coalition of brothers
It's not that the model isn't rendered at the high standard this series presents, it's oh so much simpler:
The eyes. It has white sclerotics with dark irises, they sort of resemble human eyes therefore this "feels" humanish so our brain rejects it.
Love this episode. My only complaint is that we didn’t get to see Deinocheirus again.
My all time favorite part of the episode was the tyrannosaurs rexes hunting edmontosaurus in the dark
this was actually my favorite episode of this season so far
This episode was incredible! My favourite by far.
It was exciting to see the Austroraptor and having my Jurassic World Austroraptor figure handy.
Duality
it's neat that one of the rexes snouts is thinner than the other, maybe he's the younger brother
But for the triceratops my favorite was the one that resembled a long horn cattle with the parted horns.
the t-rex hunts an edmontosaurus scene kinda brings the lost world vibes on me
The middle Triceratops is definitely my favorite.
Austroraptor meeting with others traveling around the swamps is a reference to Demon School Iruma Kun in which it hunts down fish, runs, and fights the other male for its mate just like Iruma trying to fall for a woman.
I'm sorry WHAT?
Yeah. That's what the Austroraptor was doing. Trying to get the mate's attention just like Iruma did from the anime.
You need to take a step back and realize how much you are overinterpreting.
Look up the anime and see the differences.
The Beelzebufo and T. rex sections were the absolute highlight of this episode, the Pachycephalosaur scene being quite remarkable as well
My favorite moment about the Austroraptor was the fighting scene between the adults, it felt pretty tense!
7:22 that part will be sad one day.
The eyebrows of the austroraptor make it look uncanny. I am pretty sure they didn't had those anyway so it must be an issue with the design team.
I bet Jack Horner dislikes this episode.
WHY DO I ALWAYS WATCH A NEW EPISODE EVERYDAY AND CHECK YT AND A PREHISTORIC PLANET VID COMES OUT IN YT 40 MINUTES AGO FROM APPLE TV WHEN I CHECKED IT AFTER WATCHING THE EPISODE WAS FINISHED? !
So, I drew Shamosuchus before and the pseudosuchians in this episode were… definitely not Shamosuchus. What happened there?
Wait! The t-rex in also in the swamps episode? I thought it was just going to be in the North American episode!
Isn't Beelzebufo scene a Frogger reference? XD
I’m a little disappointed that we didn’t get to see the female Beelzebufo but at least our boy got a response.
Cool
Yo.. so apparently my TV glitched because I went to prehistoric planet and the episode oceans was on there and I'm like ummmmmmmmm HUH so I don't know what happened
Was hoping for the Edmontosaurus to survive, sucks how they are the main ones to always be killed.
They really stacked the odds against them though with 2 Tyrannosaurus and in the night, they just can't catch a break.
I do like how it was able to push one of the rexes off. It feels like if it were one on one it could’ve gotten away.

I actually did not like the 1st segment. The water effects look awful, especially compared to the Beelzebufo segment. Another complaint is that most segments do not tie in very well with Swamps. The Rex Hunt is fantastic, but would be better in Forests than Swamps.
I think the main reason the Rex hunt is at Swamp is cause many paleontologists believe Hell Creek is similar to the Everglades, a swamp
For the austro, I think the eyes are too human.

I absolutely loved this whole episode, I've enjoyed the series up until this point too don't get me wrong, but including season 1 this was the first episode to give me that true Walking With Dinosaurs feeling, I absolutely loved it, the Baby Pterosaurs Vs the Crocs, Austroraptor, Beelzebufo trying his hardest to get a mate and dealing with annoying sauropods, the Pachycephalosaurus battle and finally T-Rex hunting in all its glory, fantastic episode easily my favourite.

this was IMO the weakest episode of the series as a whole so far. The animation was terrible, nothing really behaved like an animal.
The animation is **objectively** incredible. You are clearly just nitpicking. Sure you may think it's "worse" than the other episodes. But it's still 100x better than anything you could ever dream of making.
Trolling attempt 0/10. Try harder.
@@v-man6671 If I was trolling, I apparently succeeded in hitting a nerve, so yeah
@@chigginheadD I meant objectively as undeniably. Idk if that's the exact definition but it's how I meant it. The animation is "undeniably" good.
