As someone who has a dad. My dad guessed from the start that it had imploded. I even did too! I'm only going to 7th grade and we both knew that ocean water pressure exists! My sincere condolences to the families. Thank you for a respectful vlog. I have a question about the content they filmed inside Titan. Is there any chance that it can be recovered so we can maybe learn more about what went wrong?
According to Cameron, the tending vessel said the sub was trying to drop ballast (emergency surfacing) when communication and the locator beacon were lost. The transponder had a separate pressure container and battery, and apparently was destroyed in the violent implosion. At the same time, Cameron learned Monday, undersea sonar picked up the implosion but couldn't locate it. The coast guard was told too, but since they couldn't locate it, they hoped it was unrelated and searched as if they didn't believe it was gone.
Andrew Chang is a great communicator, very clearly conveyed the information without all the added drama others would have added.

The hull of the Titan submersible was made of carbon fiber. It was never capable of reaching even 10,000 ft in depth without critical problems. The fact that most Navy submarines cannot go beyond 4,000 ft should tell you everything you need to know. James Cameron designed his Deepsea Challenger sub out of special syntactic foam, it weighs 11.8 tons, it has 12 thrusters, and Cameron tested it on his own at a depth of 36,000 ft (11,000 meters). I believe his design was also certified. Science should always come before fun prior to taking dangerous adventures.
it already had
It wasn’t certified but he stated something like that he tested it on his own and he wouldn’t dream of risking patrons lives in something that wasn’t certified.
Edit: I’m not saying his vessel was sub par but he did not seek out certification because he wasn’t bringing anyone else. This was no commercial venture like the Titan.
Cameron stayed in a (5"?) thick steel ball compartment.
Science should come before money!
It made 4 deep dives previously.

James Cameron, the Academy Award-winning director of the 1997 film “Titanic” who famously visited the wreckage site dozens of times, appeared on ABC News shortly after news broke of the submersible’s apparent implosion to offer a critical take on OceanGate’s safety protocols.
“Deep submergence diving is a mature art,” Cameron said, noting that similar vessels have been rigorously pressure tested due to the threat of implosion. “Many people in the community were very concerned about this sub. And a number of the top players in the deep submergence engineering community even wrote letters to the company saying that what they were doing was too experimental to carry passengers.”
“I’m struck by the similarity of the Titanic disaster itself, where the captain was repeatedly warned about ice ahead of his ship, and yet he steamed at full speed into an ice field on a moonless night,” Cameron continued. “For a very similar tragedy where warnings went unheeded, to take place at the same exact site… I think is just astonishing. It’s really quite surreal."
Really ? 🤣
Throwing caution to the wind...
This was planned
somebody knows how to copy/paste. Nice!

huh? it's all sensationalised!
If you don't hear the sensationalizing then you're just used to it. For example: (0:51) "Expensive... exhaustive...and hopeful" Was this really "expensive" no. Expensive? compared to what? and why should it matter? Do we only attempt rescues when it's cost effective or do we as a nation react because its the right thing to do under maritime rules and basic human decency. Was it really exhaustive? the crews were only site for a few days after taking several days to get there. The work they've done was thorough and should be acknowledged. There's plenty of sensationalization in this piece.
I hope they didn't even see it coming... That at one moment they were just excited and having fun, and the next it was over; no fear, no pain, and no suffering. Any other scenario would be heart wrenching, and too painful to imagine.

@@AmbitionIsaMust115how could you hear it???
I don't know if you've seen the James Cameron and Bob Ballard interview, but I highly recommend it. I think it was ABC News.
@@AmbitionIsaMust115 Those questions were answered though... They now know the sounds they picked up weren't coming from people in the sub because the sub was already destroyed. They know the sub was already destroyed because it was a violent implosion that destroyed the sub, and that would've created a very violent sound that would've easily been picked up by the sonar, but it wasn't. So those supposed sounds they heard could've been anything, it could've been the destroyed parts drifting into eachother
Wow, you're not particularly smart if you're that impressed by this superficial, not at all scientific "report".
Andrew Chang has such an eloquent delivery. Much respect my man.👊🏿

As to whether this happened instantaneously sparing the passengers dread, I came across a source that said the Titan "anchored" and sent a signal to the mother ship for an emergency resurfacing. I wish this piece would have mentioned if that is supported. I would think if these steps were taken the implosion did not happen without distress/awareness of danger
Excellent new channel documentary of the Titanic
Very clearly explained, Andrew Chang, and with empathy. Thank you.
What is so amazing about Titanic that people are risking their lives to visit it?
@@satyjitsinhhistory
@@satyjitsinhnothing, really. this is very bizarre. these people (with the exception of one - someone's son) were titanic "enthusiasts"
@@satyjitsinh It's the most famous shipwreck of all time. Of course people want to explore its ruins.
I am so glad i clicked on this channel I am as every other stranger to these people and with his words i was finally able to let it out even though we never met these people they are still one of us with families we wish never not to see ever again.
Thank you for a clear, compassionate, and sober explanation without the usual histrionics that are so pervasive in so much news repartage.
Sobor?
Perfect reporting.
Anyone who owns a carbon fiber crash helmet knows two things: it has an expiry date, and once it has been stressed, it's junk.
Stockton Rush was the Elizabeth Holmes of deep sea tourism. He built a cheap and unsafe submersible in the hopes of making bigger profits. Specifically the passenger area needed to be spherical not oblong and needed to be made of metal not carbon-composite. After being weakened on previous dives the carbon-composite shattered about halfway down on this dive. He gambled that nothing would go wrong. He lost the gamble and now he and four other people have paid with their lives.
And lack of intelligence as well. Say what you want about the CEO and the company that provided the sub, they didn’t try to hide the fact that the sub wasn’t reliable and yet those tourist still though it was alright. Any one with a minimum of brain matter would see the red flags of going into a dangerous environment in an experimental vehicle.
Well want form a pack to rid the world of corporate greed and ignorance? Because if we get as many people as we can we can fight the corporates and their ignorance
@@florians9949 This was almost a mass suicide. I think that these people were the type who have been everywhere, done everything this was something new and the danger involved added to the excitement. Imagine bragging about it to your friends at the golf club.
@@Kevin-rq5hd Not about getting rich? 250k for one ride in an experimental vessel that could’ve been ten times safer if they didn’t take shortcuts with the budget. Make it make sense. They were probably gonna invest into a better sub later , but they pushed their luck
Bingo. Greed. That's all this is about. And stupidity.
Andrew Chang is now one of my fave journalists--his series of reports on this have been nothing short of stellar.
I agree!
Me, too!
I feel the same way. You can hear the kindness in his voice as he is explaining the details. He is so thoughtful speaking about such a catastrophic event.
I am thankful to have heard him explain how it must of happened and to bring us all some kind of comfort hoping it happened fast and that the suffering was quick.Thank you to all the countries that joined the search and help society go on with out them in our world!
He's quite handsome too!
RIP to all the victims. Condolences to their families 😢🙏
They are Not dead
They are still on the ocean floor Tomorrow they will be dead
Simply explain thanks.
Knowing it was quick and painless definitely should help the families.
We hope
They are now lost with the titanic lost souls
dead is dead, regardless.
