Kyokushin IS karate. Akimoto rightfully WINS in a kickboxing tournament using karate techniques from the Kyokushin style. I know it's painful to admit for all the karate haters, but it's fact.

As you say, it is kickboxing. Some karate mixed into kickboxing may work but focusing on mastering the basics of kickboxing is always the most effective way.

@@patmanpatmanson you do realize that both Japanese and American Kickboxing evolved directly from Karate and the pipeline of talent is still Karate for the pipeline of talent. So it's not like Taekwondo where you have to master the fundamentals to make it work. 80-90% of what he does is still Karate just optimized for this ruleset and either way he's still a Karateka.

Before someone mentions machida or connor mcgregor, theirs aren't karate either. Machida dad's karate is different and machida himself said he's adopted techniques from other martials are and changed his karate a lot for the ufc, and that traditional karate does not work. He even outright says stuff like kata wont help u fight better. Mcgregor has karate influence earlier on in his career, but still most of his techniques are kickboxing. Hiroki Sensei is a karateka, and hence his fighting style is legitimately karate. For all the ignorants karate haters out there: Karate is an eclectic family of martial arts. It is in its nature to adapt to new purposes; to evolve, and diversify. And like all grandmasters of the past, Hiroki crosstrained, dropped the techniques that didn't work in kickboxing, and appropiated the techniques that did. Muai Thai, in contrast, it is a static uniform thing. All Muai Thai fighters fight in essentially the same, boring way. Ossu!

@@enemymine1335 yes but karate is more than just kicks to the head we have low kicks sweeps joint locks throws trips takedowns of all kinds elbows knees clinch work headbutts and we train mostly bare knuckles or with MMA gloves while boxing trains with 12 oz above gloves which gives a false sense of security and allows for alot of unrealistic techniques like shoulder rolls and encouraging blocking over parrying in a actual fight alot of boxing things can be used while karate has unrealistic elements also it's a much more complete style instead of having to learn 4 MARTIAL ARTS boxers can even check a low kick or defend a takedown or even properly block a body kick
