  • Hey guys, in this video, I'll be talking about how it felt for me to move to America from my home country Indonesia. I moved here when I was around 9 years old, and have been here since. Now I'm a United States citizen originating from a Visa, to a Green Card, then to a citizen. In this video, you'll learn more about how I adapt and accustom to the American ways.

    I'm an American who is considering a move to Indonesia, and I stumbled onto this.

    You should thank a Native American tribal member for your wonderful experience on our land 😂

    Hai, I'm Doni from Bandung, Indonesia. Thanks for sharing your experiences of adaptation and the culture shocks you were having then. Anyway, I'm now tutoring English to some Indonesians here to work in America. I wanna ask you, how difficult was it to adapt with the language there? and How long could you manage to adapt? because I'm afraid my students here are hard to adapt when they arrive there :)

      @JeremysTutorials  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say it depends on the age of the person. younger people tend to adapt faster than older ones and it also depends where your students work at. working at California for example will differ from working at New York lets say, because of weather, cost of living, expenses, culture, etc. Coming to California was an easy adaptation for me though, but again I came here when I was 9 yrs old from Surabaya, born in Jakarta. take care :)

      I would say it took me around a year or so to adapt to the culture, language, and slang but again it does depend person to person. Adapting to the food was easy because I love American food to begin with already and where I live there are actually plenty of asians, including Indonesians! There are surprisingly more indonesians here than you would expect, we have indonesian food courts, churches, businesses and etc here in California. Again, it also depends where your students are going for work :)

      @@JeremysTutorials Thanks for your reply. Wow surprisingly California is friendly for Indonesians, so I think it would be easier for my students if they really stay and work there. But, as far as I know they will be working in San Fransisco. How's San Fransisco? :)

      @@JeremysTutorials The youngest student of mine here is nineteen years old and the oldest is thirty five yrs old. They'll be coming to America this year. Actually, they should have been there at the end of 2020, but this pandemic has postponed their plan :(

    • @JeremysTutorials
      @JeremysTutorials  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@donidewantoro5574 I see, that's very unfortunate that their plans got postponed :( San Francisco is a beautiful city, there are a lot of the Asian demographic in San Francisco, with them having a chinatown, japantown, and etc. I'm from southern california, so LA and hollywood area, but not too familiar with San Francisco as it is in northern california (~6 hour drive). I heard the cost of living in San Francisco is quite high though, so tell your students to be prepared to come with some money for rent and living expenses. Other than that, i'd say it's a nice and aesthetic place according to my friends who live there right now!

    @Jeremy have you found any good Indonesian restaurants? The one I had in LA is now owned by a caucasian, lost its taste and is now hella expensive.

      banana leaf in Temple City, Java Spice in Rowland Heights, look at West Covina in the Hong Kong Plaza, Janty Noodle and Bakmi Parayangan. There's also Mr. Sate in LA, let me know if youve heard of these!

      @@JeremysTutorials dude thanks. I've heard of Java Spice but Rowland heights is too far for me. I haven't heard of Mr. Sate, I'll try that. My mom is half Indonesian born in Jakarta. I grew up eating Indonesian food. My wife is Thai the food she cooks is similar and full of flavor but it's not Indo food.

    I was thinking to move to america but 1. im still underage, 2. is it worth it?, 3. How do i live there what to do etc. (btw im indonesian cheers)

    • @JeremysTutorials
      @JeremysTutorials  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      hey, to answer your questions
      1. being underage isnt a problem unless you have a parent or guardian to move with you and legally take care of you :)
      2. in my opinion yes, its really worth it. you get to meet new people of different nationalities and it's crazy how much of different cultures you can learn from others! not only that, but i believe that in America, there's less crime, less pollution, less corruption in our lands!
      3. come here and attend school, there you'll make lots of friends! then you can go along with your path whether you are doing college, trade school, etc and live the american dream! with a few friends and the right people you will be in the right path in no time! america is a land of opportunities :)

      It depends - average pricing for rent is $1000, and about $100-200 for food, depending how many mouths you are feeding

      @@kairen1628 also depends on which state and place you decide to settle in. Some state will be so much more cheaper, but also with area that is expensive , same as expensive state with cheap neighbourhood. So it depends and good luck
