No they weren't. Wemby got a lot of blocks, but they were generally swatted right at an offensive player that turned it into easy points. Just look at the stats. Middle of the road opponent FGM% but bottom of the barrel points against. Wemby's D is lacking.

That's akin to the BS idea that Wemby wasn't the best defensive player because his team sucked lol. It's not Best Defensive Player on Best Defensive Team of the Year. Gobert got exposed and destroyed and if you had Wemby instead of Gobert on that Timberwolves team, they could've won the chip. The Spurs would've won the draft because of the projected/assumed value of all the players. If you grade it based on the needs of the team solely, that's a very narrow-sighted judgment.

You have to note that although the spurs have a history of developing the players' shooting, it was when they had their former shooting coach Chip Engelland. He ain't with the spurs anymore.
Chip wasn't flawless fyi, Samanic, Lonnie, and others were development fails. In the last year Jones, Sochan, Wesley and Vassell each improved 3pt shooting. Not to mention Wemby as well from the beginning of the season to the end. Everyone for the most part improved, I have no worries with them being able to develop.

Not everyone has that ability, but he helped a lot of guys & he helped Lonnie become a better shooter than anyone you listed. As for the one’s you did list, 3 of them are still horrible & likely just had their best season, which still led to them being in the bottom 3 of 3 point shooting teams. As for Vassell, he actually took a small step back & I wouldn’t say his shooting has improved since his rookie year, which likely had more to do with the game slowing down than improved mechanics. They haven’t taught anyone to shoot in years & that’s demonstrated in their poor %s, which isn’t debatable.

In 2031 Wemby will be 27, so middle of his prime. Everyone thinks they’re using those picks for a trade but I suspect Spurs are banking on being real good, wolves being real bad and those picks being super valuable. I like the gamble… low cost, high reward!

I was talkin’ about it way before it happened. Hit the spurs up months ago on it and not saying they saw it. Watching the ncaa championship I told this dude whatever team that gets Stephon Castle better have that dude predominately running point & the squad that really needs to get him badly is the spurs. Castle off ball would be very good, allstar caliber etc but he can be one of the greatest pg’s to do it while playing combo guard. Of course the masses and others don’t truly break down “basketball” player like it’s intended and call great offensive weapons great basketball players, mvp, mvp candidates but nah not in the scope of actual “basketball” player. This isn’t the nfl and SCastle has the stroke to become a knockdown shooter on ball off ball while he’s going to be making pg’s more uncomfortable than they’ve ever been. Nba probably has CFlagg going there next year. Nba would want him in a big market but France’s nba team too….

What anyone doesn't talk about here is trading fo Juan Nunez. He's the best pick and roll guard in this draft. He's vision in pick and roll and passing will make Victor score more in pick and roll plays.
If the Spurs can sign an excellent spot up shooter this off-season, they might get out of the lottery immediately.
They can give back Hawks picks back for Risacher, tank another season and get Traore in next draft. French Connection!

You are all missing the point. Castle is a shooting guard, he is quick, athletic and definitely can score... But he is not a pure point guard. You need someone else who will organize all that young talent you have... Someone with a high IQ and already proven in elite basketball level... I challenge to all Spurs/NBA fans to guess who this could be.
While impressive for college, these accolades don't mean the player will come into the NBA and be ready to go on day one. He will definitely have to learn the system which may take him 3 years and in the meantime, Wemby will be growing tired of losing year after year and by his fourth year will be demanding a trade. Spurs are in serious need of acquiring a veteran like Paul George or some of that caliber.

The true long time spurs fan should know that PATFO plan and execute for long term. They want to be competitive for years to come otherwise they have the money to bring 2-3 stars and win immediately but what do you do after a year or maybe two? Players can play next to each other (Atlanta), too much ego (old OKC) and so on… Be patient.

Boston cham tells us now we are back to the defensive era.. Wemby inside + castle + 4x2025 first round picks is really great. If they are looking for champ, dillingham will be a weak spot in their team. They might need a good sf, and 2 to 3 years for them to grow, and spurs will be invincible

This cap space is better than Dillingham. He's not ready and can't guard. Castle can score and defend. IF he can develop his shot, he'll be a great pick up. However, Chip Engelland is in OKC and there's nobody mentioned in this video that San Antonio has developed into a great shooter without him. Losing their legendary development staff is my only concern for Castle but trust he'll have the fire and integrity to work on his game. Seeing him in an inverse PNR with Wemby would be very interesting

They trying to get Mohamed Dabone it’s clearly obvious now. 6’10 at 12 (which I don’t think he’s 12) but if he’s 12 right now that is scary to think what he will be like when he is old enough to enter the NBA draft. If the spurs keep Wemby, him and Dabone will be truly scary together.

He needs not play a lot but fills the gap when Wemby takes a rest. Why not Edey? You are not looking for a star. You need someone to play minutes so that Wembly can have a little bit of rest.

Sochan is going to be VERY good and he’s only 20/21…it was obvious the team wasn’t going to have a good record because it’s a rebuild. The team had to form chemistry and each other habits and that takes TIME. Any Spurs fan knows how this goes. Sochan isn’t going to the bench, he’s our second best defender. You need him in the lineup to switch on everyone and your best player.
And as far as his offense; he improved each season in every category…so what are you talking about? Might wanna revisit his highlights and this is an added bonus because Sochan isn’t in the lineup to be a scorer. This is why I hate debating with people who don’t get it. Not everyone is suppose to be a scorer and since he can do that + being so young with upside; don’t be daft.
But will Wemby wanna wait that long? Because I don’t see him wasting his talent here to take that long he wants to win now as he says.
