      But this is against the constitution which says a Kenyan has a right to own land and live ANYWHERE in the Republic. Where does the constritution say that just because a certain tribe lives in a particular region "their land must be defended". Against what and who?

    • @funkyfeiz
      @funkyfeiz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@diasporareturnee Much as the Constitution says u can live anywhere, u can't just be going to any space and close out land. Community land is a big issue in kenya, Moreover, do u think u can go to the highlands and decide to close out a big chunk of land from where say Embu community have their coffee plantation just like that? it will never be allowed. The maa community have zonning for their land and that means they set aside land for agriculture, land meant for grazing, land for settlements. I can't go take agricultural land and decide to build a factory for example. That's what is at contention here. What they want is for whomever is buying or aquiring land there to follow the set rules and procedures. If every kenyan decided to go and live in Mau forest because u r allowed, where will we get rain? The Masai people are protecting their food basket. Those prime agricultural land is where they thrive on for food and the grazing areas for that.
      Lastly, the BBI process is for healing, and much as the opressers now have ground to defend their greed for land they need to understand that people are more educated and can not sit down to let them offend others.

    • @diasporareturnee
      @diasporareturnee 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@funkyfeiz While I like your passion, let us look at this issue carefully. I agree with you on Mau Forest. That is a separate issue altogether. On the rest of Narok land; Are you saying the Constitution must be set aside when it comes to the issue of land? What do you mean by "close out a big chunk of land."? Isn't there a willing buyer and willing seller or has that been abolished in Kenya? What would you say to that innocent person who bought 1 acre of land on a willing buyer willing seller in Narok and followed all regulations? Must they be evicted too? Must the whole of non Maasais in Ngong, Kiserian, Kitengela, Kajiado town, Ongata Rongai and surrounding areas be evicted too? And government workers (including teachers, health workers, ngo workers and police!) who are not Maasai evicted from majority Masai counties? Surely you do not mean this! Did you know that there are a lot of wealthy Maasai families that own huge tracts of lands in other parts of Kenya? Have they "closed out huge chunks" of land in those areas and need to be evicted? Surely not! I agree with you on following regulations laid out by the constitution, but let us not condemn land settlements wholesale when a willing buyer and willing seller has effected the transaction. This kila mtu arudi kwao siren is VERY DANGEROUS dear. And always it is the poor, women and babies who suffer when politicians incite them with such dangerous talk and tribal clashes begin. I pray Kenya never goes back there again. My humble two cents. God bless.

    This guy is right. I've conducted a number of EIAs which mostly involves residents opinions, positive and negative effects of the proposed project. Change of user is also another very critical bit. Just because you have money and/or power doesn't guarantee you a right to suppress your fellow Kenyans. Farming in water catchment areas has left most of the formally productive regions arid. If let loose, our politicians will own the entire country in the name of willing buyer willing seller. You can't own farms from coast to western. No Kenyan is a child of a lesser GOD.

    He has not said anything wrong. He has mentioned his tribe without saying anything negative about another tribe. He is simply saying that he wants his people to be respected and their land and way of living to be respected. Why is that bad? In some TangaTanga rally some time back a person said when the Kalenjin get angry the whole Kenya will stand still like last time. Now that is hate speech because we know very well what time he was referring to and who he was targeting with that message. Yet the people complaining about this speech said nothing then. This is just a man defending his people like he was elected to do.

Land in Kenya is sold on a willing buyer willing seller basis according to the law and constitution of Kenya which says a Kenyan has a right to work, live and buy land ANYWHERE in the republic of Kenya wirh NO EXCEPTIONS Funny that he says shamba la wamasai ni ya wamasai then turns around to congratulate Atwoli for owning shamba la wamasai in masaini!
