I’m pretty sure they don’t play songs from pretty odd because Ryan and Brendon had a strong friendship and I’m pretty sure that Brendon misses Ryan because in some videos that I’ve seen Brendon has a murmur God I miss him about Ryan when playing with Dallon and all of his new band mates were playing northern downpour I just feel like it might be too emotional playing that album
I felt so weird watching this because I'm a relatively new to panic! and pretty odd was instantly my favourite album after listening to every song by them. Crazy to hear that it's so underated and frankly disliked by a lot of people.
I'm totally in the same boat as you. I've only been a fan for about 10 months, but I personally think Pretty. Odd. tops any other Panic! albums. There's this certain intimacy and warmth that you just don't find nowadays.
I feel the same. I spent this last summer listening to the album while going through some hard times and the music from Pretty. Odd. helped me find peace. It is a genuinely great work of art and it is definitely underappreciated.
As someone who has listened to Panic! since the first album I understand why it's disliked and underappreciated. It's so different from AFYCSO and I think when they released this album people where expecting something similar sounding and were taken back by this new psychedelic sound. I personally really loved Pretty. Odd. because it was so different.
It honestly makes me so upset that Brendon is so dismissive about Pretty Odd, I wasn't even a fan around the time the album came out but listening to it makes me feel so nostalgic about something I didn't even experience
I feel like if Brendon ever decides to retire the Panic! name - the Brendon, Ryan, Spencer, Jon lineup should reunite in respect of how it all started and do a farewell tour tbh. I’d sell my soul to go. Imagine two sets of Fever and P.O. in their entirety back to back or something......
i miss them as a band so much 😭 i love them all individually and it's such a shame it couldn't work out. The first two albums are without a doubt the best of panic
I am so annoyed that Brendon doesnt play this album live. I would much rather hear northern downpour or behind the sea rather than hallelujah. Am I the only who feels this way? Edit: although I guess the songs would be very emotional for him to play. Edit: Also I would definitely see Ryan, John and Spencer live playing old panic songs and even new songs!
I think Hallelujah is better than Behind the Sea and on par with Northern Downpour, but you're so right. He really seems to hate acknowledging that this album is even part of his own band's discography, forget playing it live. P.O. is possibly their best album.
One of my favorite albums ever. I can't believe it's 10 years old. Definitely Panic's most underrated and underappreciated album. I think Urie truly does love Pretty. Odd. Whenever he does address it, it's always been in a very positive light, and his shoutout to the album along with Jon, Ryan, and Spencer shows this. I think Brendon doesn't really talk about the album not just because it's their Folie a Deux, but because of the emotional baggage of what happened afterwards. Right before he shouted out Jon, Ryan, and Spencer, you can hear him say "It's all my fault, I love them". Also a lot of Pretty. Odd. can't be performed without Ryan, who provided vocals on so many of the album's songs. I hope one day the post-Fever/Pretty. Odd. line up of Panic will reform and play these songs (plus the songs from Fever) live again.
It’s a pity that there was so much shit going on behind the scenes with this album, it’s one of the best produced Panic! albums, everything flows together like this beautiful storybook and it’s a fucking shame that it’s ignored because of some feud that happened 10+ years ago. I JUST WANNA HEAR NORTHERN DOWNPOUR LIVE GOD DAMMIT
Ryan Ross is currently touring and doing shows in the la area last time I went he performed Northern Downpour it was amazing ! :) check them out if you're interested
I'm glad that this also describes why the first 3 albums will forever be the best. And it's not just nostalgia or bias. Cause it seems every newer Panic fan's favorite stuff is just what was just put out. Cause I'm not really sure how many people will continually come back to DoaB after a while. I just miss what Panic used to mean to me. They were at one point my 2nd favorite band (first is always going to be the same) and it's fallen a good amount to where sometimes I don't like saying I'm a Panic fan cause that represents the toxic fans and the low quality of music. It's just not a good feeling anymore and I'm sad to say that Panic seems like it will never be the same. The albums are getting more and more similar. And it's starting to feel more like inspired by tracks versus actually achieving genre change tracks like they were on Pretty. Odd.
ah yeah Cricket and Clover (the cabin album) is something I’d kill to hear- they still have it on a flash drive and it’s the album Nearly Witches was originally written for so if that’s going by anything it should be pretty good since Nearly Witches is fucking genius.
Pretty odd is my favorite panic album for so many reasons. The diversity of instruments, the lyrics, the overall style, and how Brendon and Ryan’s voices meld are all huge reasons that I love this album. I think that you are absolutely right: Brendon has so far removed himself from the days of the four man band that it is difficult for him to acknowledge it. Also, why play music from pretty odd? It wasn’t commercially successful and it doesn’t make for a bombastic live show. At least that’s what Brendon thinks.
I feel that all of Panic's music (after AFYCSO at least) never got the appreciation it deserved at the moment. Pretty. Odd. didn't receive the love it deserved at the time, but neither did Vices and Virtues, nor did Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die. The FIRST song on their first album went "We swear to shake it up, if you swear to listen" and "I aim to be your eyes, trophy boys, trophy wives". This is the spirit that Panic! embodies, has always embodied. It may be just Brendon now, but he takes on a very familiar creative process of storytelling that blends scene setting and character creation, of aiming for sticky songs and playing with different styles of instrumentation, of taking in random pieces of life and pop culture that hold meaning to them to make a beautiful mess. To me, I wouldn't want him to drop _Panic! at the Disco_ anymore than I would want Stefani to drop lady Gaga. On the other hand, if in an alternative timeline, Dallon took on the Panic! name and Brendon left for a solo project, I would consider Panic! as Panic! and support Brendon separately. Because Panic! has always had a spirit, a certain je ne sais quoi that exists as a separate entity to me. Instead Dallon wanted to create a wholistic 80's time capsule project, and that is awesome on its own. Generally, I dislike it when fans go to great lengths to conjecture about Brendon's supposed great ego or some romantic tensions, etc. Is it not just as easy to assume that Dallon was demoted to touring member because he was working on his own personal projects and thus preparing to start IDK? Isn't it also easy to conjecture that Ryan and Jon had felt a little disenchanted with their old _Panic! at the Disco_ at the time (hence dropping the exclamation) and simply wanted to start afresh? And it is not like Brendon talks all that much about AFYCSO, or V&V, or TWtL,TRtD anymore. Pretty. Odd. just gets the brunt of the attention because of circumstantial and situational factors. But Panic! at the Disco is always about chasing the next thing with a genuine love for the music. Brendon didn't make it a secret that Dallon was necessary to the song Far Too Young to Die. As you noted in the edit, he did give a shoutout to Ryan, Jon and Spencer on Pretty.Odd.'s 10-year birthday. I have personally never found him to be actually egotistical about the songs we get; he does talk about how even the latest albums would have never existed without the help from his friend Jake. To those who still insist on claiming that only the first two albums were worth anything and that Brendon Urie is only holding onto the moniker for the money, I say that you are entitled to what I see as a misinformed opinion. The guy has literally said on multiple occasions to download his music illegally if you don't have the money. He explained _how_ to download music illegally on a livestream once. He is always talking about how much enjoyment making each new album gives him, and to me, that enjoyment translates in all its nuanced ways Would I like a reunion? If they do truly want to make music together, of course! Because that cohesion translates into the music. I would love to see them work together again! But, if they don't, I will still listen to Panic!. If a new member joins permanently, I will support them the way I supported Dallon. Side Note: Like, have you people never had a childhood best friend? My first best friend I made at the age of 3 and spent most waking moments with until the age of 12 -- I don't really talk to her anymore. That doesn't mean there is tension; we just changed. And that's okay. I feel the same. We used to write nerdy stories together and now she is a much different person. But that's okay;we're still the same. Even if Ryan, Jon and Spener came back together, they would all be in their thirties. We can't expect them to make another AFYCSO or P.O. But I would imagine they would still bring little demos and snippets they worked on separately to the table to create something fresh andintricate and new that I would love. Ryan pro'lly would take over lyrics again. Brendon would still be lead vocalist, but maybe Ryan would sing more, maybe not. As long as they have that enthusiasm Panic! would be Panic! *If you read all of this, congratulations. Yes, I am ridiculous. Yes, I am a big fan.*
Eman A S , I love your thoughtful thoughts on this/these topics, you kind person 🥰 No one truly knows outside of the band and their team what happened, so it’s all pure speculation. No reunion? Cool! Reunion? Great! More Panic! music? Yes, please and thank you.
I feel my truest thoughts voiced for the first time. I know I'm late but Thankyou so much for this beautiful post. Your thoughts are beautiful and I feel you. And yes true Panic! Fandom is STILL THE SAME!
I'm assuming you mean a SECOND video on this album from me, because I reviewed the album in detail 3+ years ago :) th-cam.com/video/mxpo24BoIpM/w-d-xo.html
ARTV I'm surprised a Panic At The Disco video from you slipped from my watch list but apparently one has. I'm definitely going to watch it and cannot wait for your review of "Pray For The Wicked!"
Jon's the only ex-member who will acknowledge that time anymore. He's met up with Ryan and Spencer recently and he openly talks about his time in the band as being the best of his life. Brendon seems to be the only one bitter about the split and completely against a reunion 🤔 it's just frustrating, especially considering how he's holding onto the band name for money and recognition when it's only him now. I wish he'd go solo
Wait... sorry, but when did Jon talk to/met up with Spence? I knew about him talking to Ryan but didn't know he and Smith were still talking let alone meeting up. That would make Brendon's attitude about the reunion even worse... I love the guy and all, but honestly, Panic! doesn't really feel like Panic! anymore. I still like it and I'd support Brendon on every project (like Kinky Boots for example) but a part of me feels like he should've dropped the name at least after Spence was gone if not before. Then the other part of me is very happy that Panic! at the Disco has grown up with me and has changed so much through the years, does that make sense? Idk. I'd just like to see them together one more time, that's all. I'd like for Pretty. Odd. to get the recognition it deserves and that the credit is given to the four guys, not just Bren.
Tessa R.P Jon and Spencer met up in 2015, there’s a picture of them together at lunch so they still talk. Spencer’s wife also confirmed that he still talks to Ryan.
Ohhhh thanks, I see, I thought you meant it was something recent, like late 2017 - 2018 and I was confused since I didn't saw anything about it. And yeah I saw that tweet of Linda saying that him and Ry still talk, I think that's great
while I do like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, I still think Brendon should go solo, for he is the only original member and it doesn't look like he bonds so deep with the new musicians. all the pictures (with a few exceptions) are just of Brendon, and there are no acknowledgements of the others
Um...here is my take on all of this. Should Brendon drop the Panic! title? No. Why the hell would he do that? People recognize Panic! at the Disco more than they recognize the name Brendon Urie. When people think of bands they love, both from the past to now, you may think of Ryan Ross, Spencer Smith, etc. but the leading image is Brendon. Why drop the title when it's his alone to control? If Ryan, for example, wanted to keep the band name he and the others could have kicked Brendon out. They left, he stayed, it's his band name and he can choose what to do with it. Brendon's relationship with the other members is meh? Not really, if you watch any instagram livestreams or whatever, he has a great relationship with all his touring members, even his new bassist. The thing is that they are "touring members" not band members. Sometimes I wonder why they are not band members but I guess that is up to Brendon and the group. Do I think that Brendon should reconnect with the past members? No. While I would love for Brendon to make up with them, it would, first, essentially make his touring members lose their jobs. Secondly, would totally change the image of what Panic! has become, but that is more minor. And third, could potentially create that hostility that began during the Pretty. Odd era. I get why people get annoyed at how Panic! is today, but it is what it is. There's literally no good way for this all to work out so in terms of promotion and band members and such, I think Panic! is doing a fine job as it is, but that is my opinon
Also, watching all of the Northern Downpour live performances in 2011, you can clearly see Brendon get emotional/chocked up each time. Heck, he straight up says at the Bush Hall performance that he hopes this would be the first time he _didn't_ cry. He's never disparaged the album, just said that it was meant to be heard as the studio version. Whatever the reasoning, the album does still exist for us to enjoy.
Pretty. Odd. is my 2nd favorite Panic! album. (1st is Vices & Virtues) I really don't understand how anyone who's a fan of them could dislike it tbh. I wouldn't say it's quite as underrated as you make it out to be in the video, but it definitely deserves more recognition. It's such a solid album. And to answer your question, I'd love to see a reunion, though I don't think it's very likely for anyone to come back, except maybe Spencer. Assuming nothing like that happens, though, I really wish Brendon would just let P!ATD die and ACTUALLY go solo, especially now that Dallon isn't even a touring member anymore. It just feels so forced at this point.
Correction!! Nine In The Afternoon has NOT been scrapped from the Pray For The Wicked Tour. This is because the tour has not even started yet. Currently they are doing pop up shows with shorter setlists. I believe they are not playing it because they are not hauling around a piano to small venues in a quick paced and quickly planned pop up tour. Once they are playing in arenas for the Pray For The Wicked Tour, I believe Nine In The Afternoon might stay. But we’ll see what happens!
Why is it that Panic! and Fall Out Boy’s best album was so underrated and did not get the attention they deserve? To me, Folie a Deux and Pretty Odd are the most rock that both bands have done. The diversity in rock, the smooth flow, what makes rock so good. Closest thing to the Queen era of rock.
this cd has been in my car for an entire year at this point, i probably play it twice a week while i’m driving. this is a great video, jon! i wish you’d do more of these retrospectives.
Remember when everyone lost their minds because they dropped the exclamation mark? It was weird time. 2006/07/08 I remember being an insane time for the alternative/emo/whatever scene. The scene was just so oversaturated you couldn't move with hitting someone with too much eyeliner on. Both FOB and MCR were just riding out two very successful albums, there were a lot of other bands becoming more prominent like Paramore, All American Rejects, AFI, All time Low and there was also collection of not very good bands that had a couple hits because the emo scene was cool but are pretty much dead now because the scene died. Then you add Pretty. Odd. to the mix and... yeah it was clear to see why it wasn't very well received. Honestly, I think it was just released at the wrong time. If it was released late 2009/early 2010, or maybe even 2012, then i think it may have done a lot better. I have no issue with Brendon keeping the name. I mean, if you co-own a house and everyone else moves out, you wouldn't move out of it if you could still afford it. Now, if it were the other way around, that's a different story. And I quite the new sound. Death of a Bachelor is my favourite album behind Fever. The new sound isn't as clever as the old, I agree, but the same could be said about most bands nowadays. It's just the scene we live in. I mean, look at FOB. No-one left that band and the sound has changed drastically. The same would have happened to panic whether they'd stayed together or not. At least, I think so. Who knows, maybe in 10 years MCR will come back and fix everything? *tear slides down cheek*
Jon thank you so much for this! i love pretty. odd. so much and it saddens me to see how most fans don’t care about it, but the album is just so wonderful, Ryan is very under appreciated as a writer, he’s fantastic. I will forever be salty at Brendon for ignoring the importance of that album :/
This is my favorite panic! Album. It’s just so beautiful with all of the instrumentals and Ryan’s voice was so bittersweet. It was just such a good time.
This is and fever is Panic! to me. After Ryan left it just wasn’t the same. It’s just Brendon, and now that there’s no Pretty Odd. On the set list it’s really just Brendon with a touring band.
Had never heard this band before, but recently started collecting records and saw this for sale and thought the album cover and swirl record were beautiful. So, I gave it a listen to see if I liked it and absolutely adored it first listen. So, I purchased the record. Funny the ways you can find new artists.
Y’know those corn sandboxes you’d play in as like a toddler? That’s what Pretty. Odd is, just playing in a corn sandbox in the middle of a meadow during golden hour with butterflies just flying everywhere. I fricken love Pretty. Odd-
pretty. odd. is my favorite album of all time!! brings back so many good memories and the vibe is just perfect. i love ryan ross' songwriting and they way his and brendon's voices compliment each other, i don't think this album will ever get old tbh
Pretty Odd was ahead of its time. Now in 2020 there’s being a resurgence of this folksy rock sound (looking at artists like Harry styles for example who is insanely successful now being inspired by bands like Fleetwood Mac) and I couldn’t be happier about it. This album is a masterpiece but it came at a time where people didn’t appreciate it. The fact that a lot of new panic fans dislike this album so much breaks my heart. I think that Ryan Ross is a phenomenal song writer and it sucks that he hasn’t done much with that talent since the band split. I think if Ryan were to release a solo album with a similar sound it would do really well (but that’s mostly because there’s a whole bunch of people who are literally just waiting for Ryan Ross to do ANYTHING)
To answer all the questions regarding why this album isn't played as much on tour. This question was asked to Brendon on a livestream and he replied with a couple reasons. Firstly, it's because the songs are not as well known, and many fans wouldn't be able to sing along. Secondly, he feels that the songs would be too slow and/or calm and emotional for a concert and he worries people would get bored. Lastly, it's obviously very emotional for him and this is the straw that broke the camel's back as it's simply too difficult for him to sing live. I personally love all their albums more or less equally so to clarify I am NOT hating on PO it's great but unfortunately not a live performance album.
the last reason seems like the only actual one, but it's also already been a decade so I don't see why he'd still be affected by it. I think he just doesn't want to.
2:05 "ryan was writing more songs and wanting more singing duties" but he always wrote the songs? he wrote like 99% of afysco and all but 2 of the songs on pretty odd. he was always the lyricist. but yeah, he did want to sing a lot more. but i think that's only because he realised he was good. if you see any interviews from before pretty odd he is really quick to explain how bad he is at singing. he must've realised he's actually good in the year or two before pretty odd came out. but maybe that new confidence threw the band's dynamic off. at least it made for one incredible album though.
I think some people just dislike the album based on what it represents rather the content on the album which is a totally unfair criticism. This album has some of the most creative and bold songwriting of this century. It combines the past and the present so well. Painfully underrated especially on RYM.
Finally someone who agrees that Pretty Odd is better than the new content they are releasing. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy the newer albums, but lyrically and musically there’s so much more meaning in this album. I just wish more people would understand that. While we’re on the subject do you think you can do a review on “Take a vacation” the debut album by: The young veins? This was Jon and Ryan’s band after leaving panic which has been on a hiatus for YEARS. Anyway, great video!
I will say this until the day I die. Pretty. Odd. Is the greatest album ever made in my opinion. Every single song is so good and the most risky album of all time. I can’t express my love for this album.
This is my favorite ARTV video. I've watched it twice recently. It makes me happy I'm not the only 1 who realizes that Brendan @ The Disco albums don't come close to the Panic At The Disco albums.
_This album is so under appreciated..._ It’ll forever be one of my favourites. Whether it be because of Ryan’s songwriting, the unique sound, the production put into it, etc. i’ll forever love it
I still honestly love pretty odd. It's up on my list of favorite albums of all time, and I think that the fans who still enjoy that album are some of the best Panic! Fans out there. I miss it so much and I hope Brendon gets back to maybe playing more of it and acknowledging it's existence.
Can't believe it's been ten years. I still vividly remember seeing the video for That Green Gentleman when it came out, and I'm just now realizing that I was fucking 12 in 2008.
I feel like he should've went solo after too weird or for that album. What he's put out hasn't been bad but i only really love a select few songs from the past couple of albums, he has a great voice and a very dedicated fan base so he can go solo I honestly don't know why he's so scared to just make the jump.
Binkheartful I know I’m like 3 months late but I agree 100% with you. With everything from Fever to Vices and Virtues I like the complete album but with everything from Too Weird and Pray for the Wicked (excluding DOAB) there’s only a few songs I listen to
Why should he have to give up the band name? He has stated multiple times that HE never wanted to leave Panic! It’s crazy how this guy brings up Brendon’s ego lmao As if he actually knows him. Yeah, I agree- not all of the new songs are great but neither were all of the “old” songs. Every album has some great and not so great ones.
gh0st url1 In the split they did actually argue about who would get the band name. Of course we know it ended up to be Brendon, and it can be discussed whether that was right or not, but it can't be denied that it was Brendon's winning ego that got him the name recognition he has today. If that argument had turned out differently, the picture might have looked completely different from today.
Pretty Odd is an incredible album. I didn't care for it at first, but it grew on me as I listened to it (I grew up a huge fan of the Beatles, which I think helped me adjust to the change in sound). I pulled it out again recently and was amazed at how well it's held up - it's so timeless, and it gives me intense nostalgia to listen to. It makes me sad that people don't discuss it more; there's so much going on, so many beautiful melodies... I don't know, man. I like it better than any of their other albums. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Pretty. Odd. is my favorite Panic! album and one of my favorite albums of all time. It came out when I had just really gotten into music. It meant a lot to me then and it still means a lot to me now. As somone who had been a fan of the band for over 10 years it really upsets me that the album is basically ignored. I understated logistically why most of it isn't played, the style is different than other albums, Ryan contributed vocals on some tracks but it still makes me sad.
As much as I love A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out. Pretty. Odd is my favorite Panic album. It might not have that dance to the beat kind of sound but it is very immaculate when it comes to the sound and lyrics adds another layer of imagery. An example of this is on the song She Had the World, a criminally underrated song from the band.
I agree with what Brendon said, he is Panic at the Disco. When people think of the band they think of Brendon Urie. When the first two members initially left the band, there were still two members left. New members came and went. But it still is Patd. They never isolated themselves into one sound, so they still have that freedom to make different types of records and sounds, whether it sound like Pretty Odd or Doab. It’s still a group of people making music, it’s just not all the original people.
Even thinking about Brendon, Ryan, Jon and Spencer together again makes me want to cry. Bredon might be a great celebrity and a great singer but he definitely lost all that soul he used to have. Or maybe he never had, it was just the result of having them together. He know how to sell his persona but that basically selling empty plastic tupperware.
Don’t know about y’all but (unpopular opinion coming sooooo) I’d rather see “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” get the boot off of the setlist than “Nine In The Afternoon” buuuuuuut that’s none of my business... 🐸☕️🐍
If he ever decides to bring anything from Pretty. Odd. back into the set list, That Green Gentleman would be nice. And yeah, I Write Sins Not Tragedies needs to go. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love that song, and I get that it's their most popular, but everyone's a little sick of it at this point, including Brendon. He should give it a rest for a little while and play something else from Fever that they haven't done live in a while.
Not a huge fan of this band but my unpopular ranking would be: 5. Too Weird to Live 4. Vices and Virtues 3. A Fever you Can’t Sweat Out 2. Death of a Bachelor 1. Pretty. Odd. I think Pretty Odd is very under appreciated for how bold it is. But that’s exactly why I favor it so much!
I agree. The new stuff from 2013 onwards is okay, somewhat lacking in a few areas but still okay. Fever, Pretty. Odd. And vices were amazing to say the least.
100% agree. A lot of songs on Fever sound like Brendon was trying too hard to fit a bunch of large vocabulary words into a short amount of musical duration, and Build God is one of the weirdest songs I've ever heard, almost unlistenably so. Still a great album, but P.O. is far better.
pretty odd was the first panic album i truly loved the the point where after 5ish months of listening, i still don’t know any of the non radio songs from death and pftw
Thank you for making such a great video talking about my favorite Panic album! I wish it got some more recognition because it's one of the greatest pieces of music I've ever heard. It's a bummer that Brendon doesn't give it any more recognition and doesn't play anything from it anymore. But I will forever be a massive pretty odd fan.
Ryan was cocky about his lyrics and music writing abilities, Brendon was cocky about his singing and playing abilities, they were both acting as leader of the band until someone asked who was leader and then they clashed and Ryan backed down, except Ryan thought that him backing down meant the end of panic and then Brendon wrote another panic album and Ryan was like what the Frick
Thank you for so much for this! Pretty. Odd. remains as my favorite Panic! album. And to echo your comments, I went to the Pretty. Odd. tour back in the day and it was a magical show. I’m glad I got to see the band intact before everyone left.
This is so on point explaining the current state of Panic and how good Pretty Odd is as well as how the band ignores it today as much as possible. Easily my favorite Panic album and easily their most underrated.
Pretty Odd is my favorite Panic! album...no other gives me feelings like that. It sits on my chest so hard. It's what I listen to when I cannot sleep. Brendon and Ryan's voices together are gorgeous and I just wish at the very least more new fans would get to discover it. It doesn't deserve to be forgotten.
My absolute favorite album by p!atd. The instrumentals, melodies, and the fact that Ryan did sing. Their voices go so well together. I love the hippy light vibe they had going on during this era. 🖤
I seems that Panic! might bring back a Pretty. Odd. song for the Pray for the Wicked tour. According to a tweet from Zack, all songs with live keys were cut from their pop-up show line-up, because they didn't want to crowd the small stages.
I absolutely love this album, though I haven't listened to it in a good while. I actually just heard a song not too long ago that reminded me so much of this album, called Shake Me (Awake) by The Dear Hunter. Great video! :D
The first Panic! songs I ever heard were from Pretty. Odd. and today, it remains my favourite album. It's awesome how creative every song on it is. I'm glad you made this video Jon.
I’m very neutral to most of the songs on this album, don’t love them, don’t hate them, but I Have Friends in Holy Spaces is one of my favourite songs full stop
It's still so weird to me that people didn't like this album when it came out, and still don't. It's my favorite Panic! album and it's my third favorite album of all time, it's SUCH an incredible album.
I was a big fan of the demo version of their first album in high school. And then when Pretty. Odd. came out, I was blown away. It was so much better than the first album and I couldn't wait to hear what they came up with next. And then they broke up and I never really listened to them again. I still go back to this album once in a while and it definitely stood the test of time.
Never liked the band back in the day but always knew how popular they were. Just this week i watched a video breakdown about this one album. I gave it a full listen and I’ll admit i liked it a lot. I honestly don’t want to listen to the newer albums know that it doesn’t sound like pretty odd and not to mention that 3 of the band members left/quit
Pretty.Odd. was my favorite Panic! album, and is one of my top 10 favorite albums of all time. I get why most fans dismiss it, but it is absolutely amazing. It's one of the most beautiful, peaceful, and creative albums I've ever listened to. It will always hold some place special in my heart. I like the new stuff, but Pretty.Odd. was their peak in my opinion.
This album stands out not just from the band but I think from the entire decade, it's phenomenal and it's hard to put into words how well put together it is
Pretty. Odd. is WAY too underrated. Brendon should at least put That Green Gentleman back into the setlist
Dying Rocket he's explained before in a livestream why he doesn't play song from pretty odd. He doesn't really feel like they fit and it's his place.
Hailey Buchanan Oh, I see
Jacob Bretz not anymore T-T
Dying Rocket agreed. That's my favourite song from the album
Same. I was also new to P!ATD and I decided to listen to all the albums. And Pretty Odd was my definite favorite.
Its 2023 and i didnt listen to much panic in 2010s. But i think pretty odd is easily their best album
It honestly makes me so upset that Brendon is so dismissive about Pretty Odd, I wasn't even a fan around the time the album came out but listening to it makes me feel so nostalgic about something I didn't even experience
sammmme
I feel like if Brendon ever decides to retire the Panic! name - the Brendon, Ryan, Spencer, Jon lineup should reunite in respect of how it all started and do a farewell tour tbh. I’d sell my soul to go. Imagine two sets of Fever and P.O. in their entirety back to back or something......
last time i was this early, panic! at the disco wasn't a solo project lol
Jake Pinkney Jake I didn't expect you to be here
oh hello Jake
hello
SORRY BUT DON'T~
OOF
i miss them as a band so much 😭 i love them all individually and it's such a shame it couldn't work out.
Brendon doesn’t like to play these songs live because they’re emotional. When he used to play Northern Downpour live, he would start crying
It’s too hard for him to play (not meaning he can’t) but it would be very emotional for him too play
BIONIX and Kada Rin: I guess that makes sense. Him and Ryan were clearly very close so I can see why he doesn't want to play it
I don’t understand why Nicotine is in the set list. I would much rather hear any song from Pretty Odd or Fever over it.
Plasmaskiff Industries bless
What vide did you watch
It’s a pity that there was so much shit going on behind the scenes with this album, it’s one of the best produced Panic! albums, everything flows together like this beautiful storybook and it’s a fucking shame that it’s ignored because of some feud that happened 10+ years ago. I JUST WANNA HEAR NORTHERN DOWNPOUR LIVE GOD DAMMIT
ana123apple Same
Doesn't everyone? :(
Ryan Ross is currently touring and doing shows in the la area last time I went he performed Northern Downpour it was amazing !

Odd.
Also I still want to hear those recordings they scrapped before recording Pretty. Odd. but I doubt we ever will.
ah yeah Cricket and Clover (the cabin album) is something I’d kill to hear- they still have it on a flash drive and it’s the album Nearly Witches was originally written for so if that’s going by anything it should be pretty good since Nearly Witches is fucking genius.
the fact that jon keeps teasing us about it on twitter is driving me insaaaaane.
We might see it Jon still has all the stuff and he’s trying to put them out🌚
Pretty odd is my favorite panic album for so many reasons.
I agree with you. Pretty odd is a fun, energetic album live. But apparently Brendon doesn’t think so. He said that himself.
Easily my favourite Panic album, despite the controversy
TheMysteriousKnight ikr
TheMysteriousKnight same, it's the only one I have cycle through my feed constantly
He is always talking about how much enjoyment making each new album gives him, and to me, that enjoyment translates in all its nuanced ways
Would I like a reunion?
Eman A S Thank you so much for this.
Eman A S , I love your thoughtful thoughts on this/these topics, you kind person 🥰 No one truly knows outside of the band and their team what happened, so it’s all pure speculation. No reunion? Cool! Reunion? Great! More Panic! music? Yes, please and thank you.
This is the smartest comment I’ve ever read from anyone in this fandom. Thank you.
I feel my truest thoughts voiced for the first time. I know I'm late but Thankyou so much for this beautiful post. Your thoughts are beautiful and I feel you. And yes true Panic! Fandom is STILL THE SAME!
I was waiting on a video on this album from you!
Thank you. Favorite album. When Panic! was more than one band member
Panic! at Brandon Urie's disco
The Dan-hammer Brendon*
It's two band members now (Brendon and Nicole Row)
Wait I thought Nicole is a touring member. Is she a full-time member?
Tim Mackie if Nicole’s a full time member why is Kenny not, she’s just a month old. If that!
YES FINALLY SOME RECOGNITION FOR THIS ALBUM! This is easily one of my favorite albums of all time. Glad someone talked about it
Wow 10 years?? You could say that’s
pretty odd
More like Pretty. Old.
XD
NO 😂
I would be open for Panic to do a one-off show, playing Pretty. Odd. in full. Gonna be hell to convince Brendon.
I’m glad Brendon mentioned it at the show on the anniversary. Such an amazing album. Love the vid! You definitely described it all very well.
this video was absolutely amazing! you really know what you're talking about
Also, watching all of the Northern Downpour live performances in 2011, you can clearly see Brendon get emotional/chocked up each time. Heck, he straight up says at the Bush Hall performance that he hopes this would be the first time he _didn't_ cry. He's never disparaged the album, just said that it was meant to be heard as the studio version. Whatever the reasoning, the album does still exist for us to enjoy.
I love this album so much. Northern Downpour, Mad As Rabbits Behind the Sea-just so many amazing songs!
Pretty. Odd. is my 2nd favorite Panic! It just feels so forced at this point.
can you believe panic at the disco invented music 10 years ago in march 2008
ally xy and MCR killed it 5 years later
I don’t think it’s Brendon’s ego getting in the way. I think he’s just happy where he is at the moment and doesn’t want to change that.
Well not 10 years but close enough
(Also I have a lot of good memories that this record played in the background to.)
I think he just doesn't want to.
given the fact that there is still a lot of young Ryden fans, i doubt they would find pretty odd songs boring live
These "reasons" don't even make any sense
also, he kinda needs Ryan there to perform it with him, since Ryan had a lot more vocal contributions on Pretty Odd than he did on Fever
I can’t express my love for this album.
about 6 years after becoming a fan, it's still my favourite album! the incredible lyricism, instrumentation and overall aesthetic, it's so damn good
This is my favorite ARTV video. I've watched it twice recently. It makes me happy I'm not the only 1 who realizes that Brendan @ The Disco albums don't come close to the Panic At The Disco albums.
This album is my ALL TIME favorite album from PTAD. This album is sooooo underrated, and I wish more people would listen to it.
_This album is so under appreciated..._ It’ll forever be one of my favourites. Whether it be because of Ryan’s songwriting, the unique sound, the production put into it, etc. i’ll forever love it
"it dared to be more than an anthem for your weekend" YES THANK YOU
I still honestly love pretty odd.
I need a Reunion
As much as I love A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out. Pretty. Odd is my favorite Panic album. It might not have that dance to the beat kind of sound but it is very immaculate when it comes to the sound and lyrics adds another layer of imagery. An example of this is on the song She Had the World, a criminally underrated song from the band.
I mean add instead of adds.
Luke B I think both should leave cause they are both overplayed. Bring in something different.
Ditch both for Camisado and That Green Gentleman or something
If he ever decides to bring anything from Pretty. Odd. back into the set list, That Green Gentleman would be nice. And yeah, I Write Sins Not Tragedies needs to go. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love that song, and I get that it's their most popular, but everyone's a little sick of it at this point, including Brendon. He should give it a rest for a little while and play something else from Fever that they haven't done live in a while.
Hailey Buchanan they’re also hit singles. It makes sense for them to be mainstays in setlists.
He played both in buffalo with his new tour
Not a huge fan of this band but my unpopular ranking would be:
5. Too Weird to Live
4. Vices and Virtues
3. A Fever you Can’t Sweat Out
2. Death of a Bachelor
1. Pretty.
Pretty odd is better than Fever OOPS BYE
Tegan D
Agreed.
Agreed. 100%.
correct
100% agree. A lot of songs on Fever sound like Brendon was trying too hard to fit a bunch of large vocabulary words into a short amount of musical duration, and Build God is one of the weirdest songs I've ever heard, almost unlistenably so. Still a great album, but P.O. is far better.
I STRONGLY fucking agree
pretty odd was the first panic album i truly loved the the point where after 5ish months of listening, i still don’t know any of the non radio songs from death and pftw
nothing kills my soul more than brendon acting like this album doesn't even exist when (imo) it's their best
IM ALMOST CRYING WTH pretty odd is literally one of my favourite albums because it’s absolutely beautiful. jesus i miss ryan

Why would he go solo? He's been solo under the Panic name since 2015, no way he would go solo now.
*Not sure who will see this, but check out "Calendar Business- The Making of Pretty. Odd."*
I used to hate Panic with a heated passion and pretty odd was the album that got me into them and still is my favorite album from the band
This album held/holds such a special place in my heart
I seems that Panic! might bring back a Pretty. Odd. song for the Pray for the Wicked tour. According to a tweet from Zack, all songs with live keys were cut from their pop-up show line-up, because they didn't want to crowd the small stages.
My favourite Panic! album ever, it hurts to see that so many people don't appreciate it, it's such an amazing album!
"no songs from pretty odd are being performed"
*cries in a corner*
I absolutely love this album, though I haven't listened to it in a good while. I actually just heard a song not too long ago that reminded me so much of this album, called Shake Me (Awake) by The Dear Hunter. Great video! :D
The first Panic! songs I ever heard were from Pretty. Odd. and today, it remains my favourite album. It's awesome how creative every song on it is. I'm glad you made this video Jon.
Shit I feel old. I can't believe I had a blog about PATD back in those days😔 Now I have to go back and listen to northern downpour again.
Pretty. Odd. is definitely one of my top 3 favorite Panic! albums and I think it's a shame it doesn't get more love and attention
I’m very neutral to most of the songs on this album, don’t love them, don’t hate them, but I Have Friends in Holy Spaces is one of my favourite songs full stop
My absolute favorite album by them 💓
Still my favorite project they've released. Thanks for the great video!
Thank you for this video Jon! I love pretty odd and I'm glad you think it's important. Where did you see that Jon and Ryan met up?
Review Blossoms debut and self titled album, "Blossoms," please! This extremely underrated band needs to be heard!
This album was CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED
A masterpiece.
This was my first panic cd, it will always have a place in my heart!
This reminds me of how Imagine Dragons basically ignores anything before Night Visions
I honestly believe that Pretty. Odd. is one of the greatest albums of all time
This album stands out not just from the band but I think from the entire decade, it's phenomenal and it's hard to put into words how well put together it is
I randomly picked to listen to this album when i was playing Minecraft (yes Minecraft) one day and it immediately became my fave panic song
I'm in love with this album I'm so upset that it's so under appreciated (even by brendon!!) thank you for shining a light on it
thank you for giving that album what it deserves, its a stunning piece of art
