Incredible richness of tone from the lowest to the highest notes. As my voice teacher would have said, "he NEVER abandons his support." Technical perfection and a glorious sound.

I first heard Franco at the Old Met about 1967, right before it was razed (most assuredly by people who didn't love opera the way I did). I was new to opera and didn't know what to expect. The opera was Romeo and Juliet by Gounod. Juliette was Mirella Freni. There are moments in life when we leave day to day consciousnesses and routines and go to a place of lasting memory. This was one of them. I sat in the Family Circle, way back where I liked to joke the usher has to give an oxygen mask. But it didn't matter one bit. I could hear Franco Corelli like he were a singing a few rows in front of me. And he didn't need a microphone! He was a big man and as handsome as any Hollywood actor. I was smitten and attended the Metropolitan for the next 50 years, at least once a year.
Pourquoi les ténors actuels sont si inintéressants, et leurs voix si ordinaires aux timbres tous identiques. Ce qu'on entends là est d'une absolue beauté !
A great pleasure to see Corelli ten years after his Met debut so relaxed, pouring out golden tone, and obviously enjoying himself immensely. Thank you!
Absolutely glorious and magnificent!! A beautiful memory of one of the most exciting singers of all time with a totally solid and safe control. Thanks very much for posting!

A true vocal artist. Great voice made for this medium and Italian opera. Thanks for posting this. I saw him in the house at the Met several times and he sounded the same.Wonderful. Having a glass of italian wine listening to this Nothing could be better. Thanks Franco.
@@corneliaspindler6714 Some people don’t like him due to all of the scooping he does. It’s a bad habit that actually weakens the singer when done too often. But I think it’s probably because he never had a regular teacher to yell at him and tell him to already be up and open before the higher notes like you’d see Birgit Nilsson do. That said, Corelli was amazing and all things wonderful. But for vocal technique, the scooping was as issue for many. It’s something I get yelled at for in lessons.
The two songs above were performed as encores after a gala evening featuring Corelli and Freni singing part of the first act of La Boheme, followed by Franco singing parts of Act IV of Aïda with Cossotto and Ligabue with Nello Santi conducting, October 10, 1971. What an amazing event!
in memoria di Franco Corelli , tenore di grandissimo livello. nato l'8 APRILE, non e' stato menzionato nulla. La Televisione Italiana dovrebbere trasmettere qualche sua opera. almeno per far conoscere la bella musica ai giovani.

Such great coordination between larynx and diaphragm. That amazing thick ringing sound that travels forward with both depth and height. Tecnica di affondo = Bel canto
Belcanto is a natural singing technique, affondo is innatural. Just think that Del Monaco needed to take lessons by another teacher (that gave him the Mask) meanwhile he was practicing with the melocchi technique (voice's depth). Corelli didn't bring much of Melocchi in his technique (see the pianissimo he can do). The little part of affondo he applied was then removed during lessons with his friend Lauri Volpi that gave him a full belcanto technique. The last 10 years of his career Franco had issues with the mask technique Volpi used to do in the high notes, so... He went again in the affondo, forced, singing, causing him more problems. And than we all know how he finished his career in Torre del Lago. Belcanto ≠ affondo
@@tarektomei546 There's not such thing as a "natural singing technique" and the right technique has to be learnt and trained.
