    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
    In her desperation and madness, Anne (Natalie Portman) begs her brother to sleep with her in order to give her a child for the King.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
    Adapted from author Philippa Gregory's historical novel of the same name, director Justin Chadwick's atmospheric period drama follows the fierce competition between sisters Mary (Scarlett Johansson) and Anne Boleyn (Natalie Portman) to win the affections of Tudor king Henry VIII (Eric Bana). Anne and Mary Boleyn are under pressure from their father and uncle to help maintain the family's rich legacy and ensure their further prosperity by winning the affections of none other than the king of England (Eric Bana). But life in the royal court is far different than it was in the countryside where these two sisters were raised, and before long their bid to earn the love of the king has transformed two once-happy sisters into bitter rivals. At first, it appears that Mary has triumphed in winning the king's favor by becoming his mistress and bearing him an illegitimate child. Despite her early success, however, Mary has underestimated just how clever and cunning her sibling can truly be. Not only does the relentless Anne manage to edge aside her sister in the eyes of King Henry, but she also succeeds in averting his gaze from his wife, Queen Catherine of Aragon, as well. Mary is driven by genuine affection for King Henry, while her sister Anne has only kept up the charade in a desperate bid to become the queen of England. Now, the growing chasm between two sisters is mirrored on a larger scale as England becomes divided more than ever before. As the consequences of their actions threaten to alter the course of an entire nation, these two sisters will ultimately discover that the only place they will find true strength and loyalty is in family, and that no matter what the consequences they will forever be bound by blood.

    Most historians believe all the accusations made against Anne were false (they claimed she had 5 or so lovers including her brother). Henry had grown tired of her and was courting a new woman Jane. Henry could not get another divorce so instead had her killed. She had many enemies so there was no one to defend her.

      Even the incest shit infamy this crazy woman wrote about to discredit Anne. I wonder how much she hates her. All the charges against her were proved to be false by the inconsistencies of the dates when she was accused to be with her brother and the other men.
      This Philippa Gregory is crazy and must be a fanatic catholic to even write a book and make a movie with all these lies who every intelligent person who can google Anne knows these are all myths created by her enemies to muddy her.
      Don’t believe all that crap put by Philippa Gregory’s book and movie.
      Go watch The Tudors and Anne of the Thousand Days.
      And “Anne of the Thousand Days” is even more accurate than The Tudors, showing that Anne was really the prey and avoided all the king avances instead of that of both Natalie showing up a home wrecker plotting with her relatives to marry the royal stalker. Read all his letters to her and that specific one in which he remembers that he’s the hunter and she’s the prey. Sent with a dead buck killed by him so that she would remember of the hunter while eating it.
      The movie shows more characters like: her mother Elizabeth Howard and Henry Percy, the count whom with she betrothed, she loved and was loved back way before she met Henry. The movie shows how Henry separated the two by ordering cardinal Wolsey to annul their compromise.

    • @oren1305
      @oren1305 4 ปีที่แล้ว +57

      Because they had no way of proving paternity back then; the Queen could only sleep with her husband, to produce heirs, while the King sleeping around could only produce bastards. If the Queen gave birth to a child that wasn't assuredly her husband's, the entire throne would be in jeopardy.
      I'm not justifying it, just explaining.
      Pregnancy was often mysterious to men, and they didn't like not knowing who's child a woman was carrying; hence the strict rules about who women could bed.

    though I love Portman, this movie and its entire portrayal of Anne Boleyn is just so unjust und biased... it does not give Anne ANY credit whatsoever. why is that lady so persistently maligned? It is abundantly clear that she was framed by Cromwell and her other enemies and brought down for political reasons as much as for her failure to produce a son for her narcissistic husband. Her eloquent words during her trial and on the scaffold speak volumes to me and all the others who love her ... she may have been guilty of arrogance and jealousy, but she was innocent of the ridiculous crimes for which she died such a brutal death. in the end I think she truly showed the world who she was: a woman of great spirit, bravery, intelligence and grace. a truly magnificent lady

It's all well and good to have a movie based on historical figures that's actually fiction, for the sake of entertainment, but this is too much. There were inaccuracies in The Tudors, but at least they got the general story straight. This is just a mess. If you hate Anne Boleyn after only knowing what you see in this movie, please check out some actual history about her. This is NOT how things went.

    • @DenaInWyo
      @DenaInWyo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      I so much agree with you. Things like The White Queen/Princess are very fictional, but they don't exactly make you hate people from history for no reason (with the possible exception of Margaret Beaufort, who actually has a very interesting and tragic story herself) like this movie does. Philippa Gregory really should be ashamed of herself for this one..it's a total misrepresentation of Anne Boleyn, both fact and personality. Would be interesting to see her do a spin like this on Princess Diana and then see the outrage.

      Chris Putter exactly. I much prefer the Tudors. Especially with Natalie Dormers portrayal of Anne. This movie had great actors but the history was very off and it saddens to me to see so many people who think that this happened.

      It’s hard to make any movie based on history or biographies because people presently did not live in those times to experience it. So one cannot say if this was a wrong or exaggerated telling of a story.

      I’d say Phillipa Gregory’s main purpose of this movie was to slander Anne Boleyn. Note though that Ms Gregory has other books depicting incest. Obviously she herself has a thing for incest.

    The part where they execute her brother killed me; he got no trial or anything, not even killed with a sword, just slaughtered in seconds with an axe like a commoner. No one to hear his side, no one to even give his "I'M FRICKING INNOCENT PLEEEEASE"s a listen; its seriously disturbing. I know in reality it is fairly possible that he may have had relations with Anne, but this movie does a good job of portraying the twisted justice given to less-important figures in history.

    • @ElinorMahoney
      @ElinorMahoney 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Qtaro - ゴールド・エクスペリエンス・レクイエム nope, blame the film makers. The only evidence that the court had against George and Anne on the charge of incest was the fact that they had once spent a few hours alone together, and there was nothing else against them. Also a lot of this film was just historically inaccurate, Mary gave birth to a girl first, a Catherine Carey, in 1524, who was POSSIBLY fathered by Henry, but the son she did have was Henry Carey in 1526, who I’m adamant wasn’t the king’s son since I’m convinced he would have been more interested in Anne at that point. Also, the film says that Mary was younger than Anne, which is wrong, since although we don’t know Anne’s year of birth (though we think that it’s 1501), we’re fairly sure that Mary was born in 1499, making her the older sister. I know the filmmakers just wanted to make the movie come off as interesting, but they went about it in the wrong way. I’m my opinion, the original tale was interesting enough on its own. There’s a lot more wrong with the film, but my fingers hurt from writing this comment.

    Oddly enough Henry did love Catherine. They were married for quite some time unfortunately they had many miscarriages. She did actually bear him a son, but he died a few months after birth. The biggest issue with Henry, was he knew that without sons Tudor throne was at risk. After all, his own father came to power because of that. Henry the VI is not Henry the VIII’s grandfather.

    Anne and George may have been more intelligent than their older sister Mary, but if you think about it Mary was wiser. Mary was only the mistress of Henry VIII (and Francis I of France) she never tried to steal him from Catherine of Aragon. Anne’s ambition led to the executions of her and her brother’s death.

    A lot of historians do not believe that any charges of incest had base, but one thing makes me pause: a lot of women and queens were charged and convicted of infidelity, but besides Anna, I can't think of any charged with incest. England could have charged her with infidelity with other men and it would have been enough. Why bring in incest if there was no base for it?
