    Am enjoying this series as a reintroduction to this game. It has improved greatly since I played it last a couple of years ago, Thanks. This game can still surprise me; today I was trying to look closely at the traditional dress of the women farming my fields and one of them looked pregnant! I checked and yup, she was 5 months pregnant! And she waddled as she walked!!!

    Hell Yeah! I loved the last Ostriv series, I'm so glad I'll be able to follow along proper this time instead of just binging 6 months later.

    A tip I find useful at the start of game is, build the forestry and the clay as close to your main building sites. Once you have the first 9 houses and other buildings, you can then move the clay and forestry to a new location. This saves on worker travel time

    *settles in with coffee & chocolate. Loved the 1st ep, now ready for episode 2, onwards good Sir! Got to say, Other than the overall peace (who am I kidding, stress, haha) of setting up a new city in Ostriv is with the beauty that is the game, the music is just gorgeous!! What a way to spend an hour with you watching the seasons come & go, the building raise, the farms be tended, and listening to calming music. Heh, what a moment in time. Thanks for that calming influence on my day!!

    Ok so this is the SECOND of your videos I have watched and I HAD to comment on the fact you always opening with a soft intro. A few seconds of gentle quiet then a soft voice to welcome the viewer. I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate this. Too many Ytubers come in with sound immediately and it is loud and jarring so I tend to skip intros. So thank you for that...like REALLY THANK YOU!. I hope you see this comment.

    Thank you for the series. ❤
    I kind of feel you choked your growth with that farm. When you build the houses with the garden you can buy their production from the granary and sell in the market stalls.
    Laborers should be limited from 20 in each building to like 4-8, then your charcoal will be prioritized. You can also increase the salary inside charcoal slightly.
    Carpenter can do preventive repairs on the carts if you tick the box there.
    Nails and parts should be lowered from max production. Somehow they make those in batches. And until a batch is done…well you get my point.
    Sunflower oil and charcoal is the most valuable trading commodity in my opinion. You get a lot of money for those.

  • @KG-1
    @KG-1 ปีที่แล้ว

    My thought on the sunflowers - the little sheds in the beginning might be to protect the plants when they first get seeded in the ground - - birds and animals coming along on getting all the seeds.

    Really enjoying this series, thank you! It’s so calming and relaxing to watch. I used to love playing Ostriv but sadly once my town gets a little bigger I get lag (my laptops fault) so I will enjoy watching this instead!😊

    i was playing this before i started watching this letsplay, and i was thinking the same thing about the children and adults visiting each others home. i even noticed that sometimes children will go home with their friend after school, instead of going to their own home.
    this game is really amazing with its little details.
    another good one is how the thatched roof houses without a garden sometimes grow flowers next to their little stairs. so if you put a whole bunch of them in a long row, it looks like a neat little street decorated with little flowers in front of everyone's house.

  • @KG-1
    @KG-1 ปีที่แล้ว

    My observations:
    1. locate and put in 1 claypit and 2 charcoal mounds first, next to each other - puts women to work right away on getting charcoal stocked. Then Forestry. Then Thatchery. Next Smithy. Then Carpentry.

    I was looking for a game like this and went through almost 10 others before finding Ostriv.. I'd seen it ages ago and read about the depth and features it had, at first glance it seemed overbearing and like it would be stressful to play.. In fact it's the opposite, it's one of the most relaxing games I've ever played. With a pause button. The freeform building system gives you the freedom to build almost exactly however you want, the citizens will create natural paths over time and simply by building around them you end up with immersive and realistic looking settlements or even just simple areas of the town can look great. Having your forester and carpenter living in a small fenced compound with their own well, two houses and a plot of land to grow vegetables on, with their wives working in the Thatchery and Market Stall just across the road, space on "their" land to build a third or fourth house for their children. It's all so immersive and very enjoyable just watching your settlement be built up literally piece by piece over time. The timescale is extremely well done and feels realistic and citizens and livestock will age month by month, with generations potentially living out their lives in your hand-crafted settlement. If you love city builders, logistics, colony sims, trading and farming, buy this game. You won't regret it. It feels like a AAA level game hidden under an Early Access cloak!

    • @jeffm26
      @jeffm26 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lesson two never build anything, other than the mill & thatcher, before your 9 houses, lesson three, always start off with at least 3 charcoal pits to ensure that you have plenty of nails, and then when you get the trader's post built, you can stock a few thousand charcoals to sell right off...mo money, mo money, mo money.

    • @robertkelly8106

      You don't have to build the thatchery until after the ninth house. You start with enough in the original storage.

    53:20 Does the game allow property around a building to have 5 or more sides ? ( If not you should suggest it.) I think that latest property wants to be 5 sided

    • @JCTheBeard
      @JCTheBeard  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately all the fields and houses with gardens are bound to being four sided. I've kind of "cheated" that in the past by using extra pieces of fencing and decorative trees/shrubs to create the illusion of extra sides so we'll probably continue that in this playthrough at some point.

    I'd imagine your bug reports are more useful than most, as you can include a timestamp and they can see firsthand exactly what happened. Usually with bug reporting reproduction of the bug can be a challenge.
    For me this was a 'just right' video length. I understand that when playing a good game the 'just one more turn' is always an urge.

    • @JCTheBeard
      @JCTheBeard  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm not going to subject the devs to hour+ gameplay videos, even with a timestamp. 😂

    Why don’t you rotate your fields? I usually build them in pairs and rotate from crops to fallow.
    Loans are given for free when you’re on 0. Building the town hall faster helps you to set your wealth tax so you have a passive income

  • @spamfilter32

    You did actually need the loan. After you purchased the cows, you did not have enough left over to pay your people their wages. The question is, will you have to pay back the loan. Because if not, then it is actually a grant rather than a loan.

    • @JCTheBeard

      I think that might be new? From my understanding the prevailing theory now is that the family has enough money where he doesn't feel the need to work.
      Wealth tax (adjustable in the Town Center) can fix that 😈
