  • This tutorial is beginner friendly and will show you have to sew an adjustable dog collar first and then a matching dog leash. The measurements can be easily adjusted to fit your dog. You can measure your dogs neck just to make sure and make them accordingly. They are adjustable so you can make them a little bigger. Depending on your height and the size of your dog, you can adjust the length of the leash, however, I would keep the width at 5".
    Supplies:
    Dog collars:
    1/2” - 3/4” slider - purchase at craft store or Amazon.
    1” buckles - purchase at craft store or amazon
    1/2” - 3/4” d ring - purchase at craft store or amazon
    cotton fabric
    featherweight or lightweight interfacing
    Leash:
    cotton fabric
    1” swivel hook - purchase at craft store or amazon
    Here are the suggested measurements:
    Dog Collars:
    Small collar - 2.5" x 19" (finished size 5/8" wide)
    Medium collar - 3 1/2" x 25" (finished size 3/4" wide)
    Large collar -- 4" x 34" (finished size 1" wide)
    Leash:
    5" x 44" or longer depending on size of dog and person's height
    Handle loop - 13" or more depending on size of you hand

    Did you use webbing or interfacing in the leash?

    • @sewcraftiewithconnie8293
      @sewcraftiewithconnie8293  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not for the leash but You certainly can if you like. I found folding it over 3 times it didn’t really need interfacing.

    Hello and sorry it is me again...I have tried now several times to sew the collar, but every time the fabric gets lake wavy when i sew it .. don't know how to explain it better...not the stitch, but the fabric, like it is all flat but then it gets under the foot and it makes waves. any idea what i do wrong? i incorporate a nylon webbing. thank you so much for your time.

    Does it make a difference if you use the clips they just have one hole on each side or two?

      Are you talking about using clips instead of pins?

      @@sewcraftiewithconnie8293 the actual Buckles that snap for the collars I see some have the two holes and a lot of tutorials show using both holes on one side but yours shows just using one so can I use the ones that just have one single whole on each side of the snap vs two of one side and one on the other or two on both sides?

      @@destineybouldin7108 I guess I’m not really understanding the question but you can use the clips that just have one loop on each end of that makes sense. You use the one that has two loops just for the adjustable part. Hope this helps. If not email me with pictures of what you’d like to use. Flemingconnieg@gmail.com

    Hi, great tutorial. I am making some collars for my doggie nephews. I was going to use nylon webbing inside the fabric but the interface is a much better idea. I’m not sure the webbing would go through the hardware...or the machine actually 🤔 Thanks from the uk

    Question, I've been making collars for several months now. My biggest problem is sewing a straight hem. I really struggle with this, any suggestions? I spend a lot of time removing and redoing.

      Hi. Do you use pins? If so maybe you can use clips instead. That may help. Pins tend to make things a little more bulky and can be hard to sew over causing your stitches to be a little crooked. Also put a piece of tape on your sewing machine and use that as a guide as you sew. I’ve done that before and it helps me. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.

    great tutorial. just one question, please. if i want the collar to be adjustable from 8 inches to 12 inches for example, how long does the collar have to be? I mean the 12 inches plus how long in order to incorporate all the hardware? is the a rule of thumb for any size? thank you so much and a happy new year.

    • @sewcraftiewithconnie8293
      @sewcraftiewithconnie8293  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. For a collar to be 8”-12” I would cut the fabric about 14” long to allow for adding the hardware maybe a little longer. I haven’t done any for a specific size only for the sizes I gave in the tutorial but you can guesstimate it by folding the fabric like it was already done and playing around with it. I hope this helps.
