Tried and failed with a pipette for about 8 straight hours. Applied this method and the bird just full-on went for it. Easily the most practical and useful video I have watched this year. Good work!
Hi, great video, easy to understand and to-the-point. One suggestion for folks, instead of sacrificing a syringe, a beverage bottle works just as well if you hunt around for one with an appropriate opening. A little more challenging to get the formula in it but you can always use a food funnel. Much cheaper - AND you're recycling!
thank you so much for the slide video, helped me pause and write, and it sure made my orphan pigeons happier too, so much easier than what i was doing.... it mimics the leathery feel of a parent birds beak sides, mine started gobbling their food down 1st time!! 😍
I hope you are a veterinarian. Any bird that has been bit or or even scratched by a cat needs care from a wildlife vet who can administer antibiotics within a very short period of time.
I didn't had the plastic gloves on hand but I had balloons that I adjusted to the syringe easily and helped me tons with my rescue dove. She's now month and half old and I still can't believe I was able to help her this much. Was very lost on how to help and thought she was as good as dead. But she's well and strong, also, the food option was amazingly helpful. We have mourning doves very close to the house that come daily wihtout fail. If a male takes a liking to her I'm thinking I might be able to release her. (I get her out to take a bit of sun and the doves come to visit her), maybe I'm hoping for too much but if she doesnt like any of them she already have a loving family that spoils her lots as I'm hearing a lot that human raised doves will die if released. (Even tho I'm thinking on adding some dove friendly perches and nesting areas so she might be able to stay close by and safe.
Sorry for the late answer, mine survived. She's very healthy but didn't like the outside that much, I think she got used to humans, is why she's not a candiate for release. After I learned that, my second dove I didn't let her get too attached, and was successfuly released. Now I have a third and fourth, as neighbors heard I was able to help them. Even helped a pigeon that also got released successfuly. But for the release to be a success you need to teach them which other foods they can eat, for example, as I'm in a rural area, seeds and broken corn. If in the city, maybe bread, leftovers, etc.
Hello!! I am raising a baby dove. I did exactly what you did on the video " he started to eat from the syringe but I found out food was also getting inside his nostrils. I cleaned it out but I am worried some more got to his tract. is that normal? what can I do to avoid it? please help!!
Looks like it would work great except for the fact that every time I tried stretching the glove finger over the tube it rips. I'll get some balloons and try it that way.
Subscribed as this was an extremely helpful video! we have just rescued a pigeon that has been got by some sort of hawk and all its neck and head had been bitten! Blood was trickling down her! Just about to try your formula, hope this helps the little pigeon! Once again thank you! Plus have u got and tips for her because she isn't wanting to eat the food and she is slowly spiralling down hill.... Once again thanks and have a great day!
hi I'm sixteen and I have 15 pigeons and I have 1 baby pigeon it is 7 to 8 days old any tips on raising it right Cuz I know that it can easily die if it gets too cold I put a bottle with warm water in it Cuz I don't have a heating pad and put it in a towel next to it to keep it warm but at night I don't know what to do pls reply Thank you very much
priscillapastimes You risk the food going down the wrong way then and that could kill the pigeon! The pigeon needs to be able to feed itself like it would do in nature. Caring for animals isn't always easy and certainly isn't mess free either!

Probably the best video on how to make pigeon baby food and feeding them!!! Thanks just what I needed for my young bird.
This literally SAVED my bird
I was feeding a baby pigeon, when my parents saw a syringe in my flat, I had a lot to explain to them...
Eugeniusz Dupczyński hahahaha
Many thanks for this. I found a young pidgeon in my garden that cant fly properly yet. He wont eat for me but I will try this tomorrow 😊
when he grows up make sure not too let him go cause if raised humainly he will not know how to and he will die
All I can say ... You done a great job thank you.
Thanks for the help, got a morning dove rescue. It already survived a cat and has had first feeding

I bought a box of 'micro-tex' triple protection latex (powder free) gloves from our hospital (5 fingers each, made it lots cheaper
Thanks for the video! I am wondering how old is the pigeon in the pic at the end of your video? We found one that looks exactly like that!
?Can you feed them with baby porridge formula
Can this way of feeding be used for an ill adult dove?
