"A single death is a tragedy but eggs make omelettes." man just summed up human history in ten words.
Probably my favorite line in the song. How would you interpret it?
@@Flowermedal It's a variation on a quote by Stalin: 'The death of one man is a tragedy. The death of a million is a statistic.'
@@Lamitje Ah okay. Nice!
can't make a tomlette without breaking a few gregs
@@Flowermedal just the slow march of history, kind of the opposite to the great man theory. Where all of civilisation, progress etc is built of the back of billions of individuals, soldiers, traders, scalars, religious leaders, tyrants, mothers etc. Some revered, most simply forgotten. All leading rich and interesting lives, all with tragic deaths, but with all of our combined efforts leading us to the present day with the set of circumstances we live under. People are just individual eggs but together civilisation is the omelette.
Just say he's the best, let's not argue!

Over 20 years in the game and he STILL HASNT MISSED

Not even the only Biggie reference on the album 👑

this run woods is on is so legendary. so lucky to get to witness this. cant wait to see this shit live.
Despite health problems, I'm actually considering driving 6 hrs from Humboldt County to San Francisco to see him live... definitely a bucket list item!
I’ll see you then! Can’t wait to see this dude
Saw him yesterday, it was great. After the show he was selling and signing and speaking with the people. Special time
Woods & Segal definitely one of the greatest rapper/producer duos. Album's a fuckin' vibe.
Agreed
💯👊
Better than Hiding Places? Hell nah
@@jumalakohtuotsus4174it's close but I think maps is better
This song gives such a serene feeling almost like a lost memory that you’ll never forget
Yeah it’s bittersweet love it
I’m so grateful I finally stopped sleeping on Billy Woods and Armand Hammer. It happened at the right time in my life though. It’s been therapeutic.
Woods is a lyrics prophet that evokes emotions I didn’t know I could feel
His words are raw much like Earl or Navy Blue, but there’s something about Billy and the way he speaks, the way he scripts down a flow of conscious thought that allows us to voyeur his day to day life (especially Maps because it feels like he’s writing an autobiography) BUT DUDE PLEASE, go back and listen to his 2012 work “History Will Absolve Me” its in my top 5 albums of all time. It’s about African Apartheid and the song Pompeii and Body of Work are insane.
life changing music
This song is so goddamn beautiful.
Woods is on an all time run. What a talent.
Maybe it's the "Feelin Good" interpolation, maybe the Tim Blake Nelson direction, maybe the rarity of Woods' face half revealed, maybe that unreal beat, maybe each, but more likely, it's all of it. Because how could an artist as singular, dedicated and deep as Woods, being in full stride and at the height of his powers as he is, not register on every level? This is no mere fluke or happenstance, this convergence of all elements being heightened to their highest - this is the fruit of a toil long in the process and its speciality was surely not without its share of difficulty. You experience this work and you are kind of left scratching your head going "how...?" but then you think for half a second and realize - oh of course, it could not be any other way, of course his sensibility in one sphere must overlap into the next, and of course he can manage them each with as much grace and force as any master of their craft - for he has attained inevitability ladies and gentleman, and save your seats because I have a feeling he is nowhere near an ending.
🎯🎯🎯💯🙏 Amen!
He's reached a level few artists ever reach... It's mind-boggling.

woods is a lyrical prophet. Maps is a masterpiece
criminally, CRIMINALLY slept on
This is one of the best hip-hop beats i have encountered. Kenny Segal is a fucking genius.
bro fr!!!!
I had goosebumps all throughout the 3 minutes from the beat + amazing lyricism and delivery by billy.
You are the most valuable rapper today in 2023 🙇♀
so used to seeing his face blurred. even with the face covered, looking into one's eyes shows so much character.
I know right?! Looking into his eyes is so surreal. It's like you feel a stronger connection to him when he looks at the camera
I think he the best rapper there can ever be
Wonderful. Having long loved Woods’ discography, it moves me to hear such an optimistic track. And the melancholy/dissonance is not lost on me. It’s like hearing Earl’s 2010- a form of joy from a man who’s seen the void. The multi-layers of self-allusion, his unparalleled ability to map themes, histories, diction, peoples and places in time, fun-house mirror-rooms of constellative images- the man is a paragon of story-telling. He’ll be one of the Irreplaceables that, were I to outlive him, I’ll obnoxiously remind my progeny that they missed the era of a genius. I admire Woods’ Sappho-like purposefully abstruse self-declarations; it almost seems to me, the way he controls/limits his public images, the way he requires listeners (and readers, he is a wealth of enrichment to be read and analyzed) to fill in the negative space of his canvases with subtext like a Rorschach test- yes, his Dostoevskian propensity for world-rending storytelling cleaves tectonic plates so chasmic that there’s room for every listener to ball his own life’s tale into a bundle and throw it into the spaces between- instills in me a feeling of kinship familiarity and utter isolation from the man himself, like I could live in a version of the world he’s illustrated, but couldn’t ever fathom the creator behind the curtain. I’m in awe of Woods. He’s a poet in a tradition he honors in upholding. If I ever met him, though, I don’t know what I’d say. I’m almost certain he’d rather exist beyond the touch of mere appreciators in favor of real comrade commiserators, and I just haven’t suffered enough to deserve to shake his hand. If we met in heaven, maybe then I’d wash his feet and tell him all he’s done for me. May any power that be bless Billy Woods. Amen.
I love that comparison to 2010
Good write up. Got a blog?
@@moneybagello No. But thank you for the compliment!
Beautifully written and personally quite inspiring. Sorry if this sounds cringe, but I'd love to chill with you some time and talk about art. I'd absolutely start a blog or publication with you.
Comments like these remind me I’m not alone and other people like me feel a very special type of way about this man. It goes beyond words with woods
Legendary! Zimbabwe
Directed by Tim Blake Nelson! Interesting. Good track, looking forward to hearing it more and trying to figure out what it's about.
He's back
Beautiful beat, amazing flow, an emotional banger
I’m super late to the game with woods and Armand Hammer but better late than never. His music has been such a breath of fresh air for me
Perfect *street fighter voice*

Every album is a PHD thesis
Creative & unique; music like this could make the color blind, see tie die 👏
is it just me or woods so in sync with his consciousness of thought that his motor skills follow suit?

One of the all-time great artists in HipHop... maybe in any genre. Each release is an illustrious gem! It's hard to wrap one's mind around all what he's accomplished. He and Segal are one of the great MC/producer duos.
Give this man his flowers, and protect him at all costs! 😉😁 *Backwoodz forever.*

Wow. Crazy good track off a crazy good album 👌
wow, the beat is just as amazing as the video. Props to Billy and Segal. My favorite joint on the album for sure!!
Such a cool video!!
This song hard!! 🔥🔥🇰🇪
Been on repeat 🔥🔥
I love this album. I listened to it so much this past summer when I was getting on and off various flights in Europe. Theres something about listening to it in those 'nothing spaces' of airports and airplanes that just made it hit different. It always gives me a warm feeling whenever I listen back. Thanks Billy, Thanks Kenny, I'll always appreciate you for this and everything else you've done for music.
Something bout this song sounds nostalgia to me
King billy woods. I am coming to see you live in the UK soon. I have listened to Maps 4 times and please believe me when I say this isn't due to recency bias. It's your best work and going to go down as one of the best albums of the last 10 years. Flawless victory!
P.S I think I speak on behalf of the fans when the times right drop a 3rd album. This shit is classic and timeless!
Never thought I’d see billy in a shiesty lol
