Yes please! I am the rare player that is on base game pre witch king, no patches. It’s very hard for me to understand what strategy applies to my game vs the ones in your videos!

One very big difference you didn't mention - in the BFME 1 campaign you keep your armies and get resources from all the territories you conquer - there's nothing like that in BFME 2 where the campaign is just a set of missions.
BFME 1 is one of the best RTS games ever made. There could be more hero’s and I would like Aragon to be with the Gondor faction. But other than that it’s perfect.
Bfme 2’s overworld grand campaign mode (war of the ring) lets you actually fight battles in real time like total war was amazing and while also letting you have that huge map to conquer and is often overlooked despite how epic it was.
Whats make bfme unique ist the way of play, almost nothing similar to other rts games. On bfme 2 it is like a mass and chaos. Only armies die and come others. On bfme i would almost cry if i lost a battalion. What is more beautiful than a lvl 7 or higher battalion
Can you explain this difference to me a bit more? I am trying to get into BFME2 having played BFME1 back in the day, I am not really enjoying the loss of armies and just waves and waves of back and forth armies.

The two games are different, yes almost same animation and controls, but 1 more like Quality vs Quantity (1 battalion can with leadership kill 5 others).
In Bfme2 it is about fighting with waves until one of the 2 has no money.
Don't get me wrong, it is also great game, but for me i like bfme 1 play style much more. U need to try both to decide ur self
I started playing BFME II first, but I learned to love BFME I more, since you have less units, you can level them more, heroes are not so OP and it has more similarities to the movies.
I think BFME2 is way better because you have the freedom to build your structures anywhere on the map.
plus play more defensively, which is how I would play a RTS game.
basically C&C Generals vibe.
BFME1 is too basic and everything gets very repetitive after a while.
I first played 2 in 2006 I was a child and it was magical but then I tried 1. 1 is so much better in campaign more powerful heroes good castle type and etc. For me bfme 1 with a legends of the 3rd age mod is best for bfme experience.

Indeed. My first RTS. I got it in 2004 and it was a perfect match because I watched the lotr movies basically every weekend.
Bfme 2 is more magical for people who haven't read the books, but Bfme has that thing about it that just keeps you glued to it.

BFME1 is for me. I remember seeing trailer for it in the Return of the King game aaaaall the way back in 2003 and I was hyped instantly. Been returning to first good or evil campaign ever since once in a 5 years or so. BFME2 wasn't the same as I was huge fan of LOTR movies, not so much of everything else. I enjoyed RotWK a lot though.
I love Edain Mod. It have the mechanic from BfME 1, wich i absolutely love, but also a lot of new factions and balances etc.

The LOTR BFME game series will probably be available on GOG soon, along with an announcement for either separate BFME 1 & 2 remasters, or they will combine both games and expansions into one big remake/remastered game, Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle-Earth Ultimate or something along those lines, that way they can justify a full price tag for it, in the meantime we can buy and play the GOG released originals to tide us over, I'd happily pay £20 each for 1/2/expansions from GOG, hopefully they work with Windows 7 not just 10.
I want to believe this, but isn't this particular IP stuck in legal limbo with EA still having partial rights or some other bs like that?
@@MrZrbrownie Well there is serious money to be made, if that doesn't shake up the legal rights to make it possible, nothing will.
In terms of campaign, I prefer BFME1. The final score after we fight in a region, the fact that we can create an elite army throughout the campaign and the optional quests were actually kind of fun.
In terms of gameplay, I prefer BFME2. Not only it has more factions, but I prefer the upgrade mechanic better. Rather than waiting for the buildings to reach the next level in order to get the upgrades we want, we can spend resources to speed things up. I also like that we can build anywhere we want, instead of being forced to go across the map looking for building spots. That way we can spend more time building and improving rather than having to stay vigilant of our enemies destroying our buildings.
It’s been 20 years yet nothing better was released . With current technologies game could be just so amazing . Why is this genre dead? I have not seen good strategy for decade
I agree. They should just upgrade the graphics for these classics every decade or so. It would allow new generations to continue to play these amazing games. An example is that lone person re-making Zelda: OoT, with modern graphics.

AOE4 is pretty good now after all the patches. And if you like BFME 1, play Halo Wars 2, the gameplay is very similar.

I think it inspired Halo Wars, Shionkaito. Specially the base building part.

Obviously. 2 failed not only in lore and balancing but also game mechanics and formations. The only advantage 2 had over 1 was powers… That was literally it…
PS After they united 2 countries in 1 in the 2nd game: Gondor+Rohan they had to nerf the crap out of their units, in order not to make that faction OP, which made the entire game completely stupid in terms of lore/balance…
Both are pretty fun in their own way, especially with mod and community patches. Still waiting for Age of the Ring 8.0.

BFME2 is imo better because it takes alot from the book, whereas BFME1 is only based on the movies. Love the movies, but the books is where the real magic is. The best Bfme2 experience is with the Age of the Ring mod, it fixes every problem with the original game and adds so much awesome content, including a campaign based on the events of LOTR that destroys the one found in BFME1
I always preferred the 2nd personally, but now years after I lost the games I’d be so ecstatic to just be able to play either of them again, they used to be my favorite games cause I always loved command and conquer and lord of the rings is my favorite movies, and these games were the absolute best mix of the 2
Get the new game launcher 2.22. It has all games and patches in it and online mode. Never was so easy to play it again, and soon everyone will be united under it.
I like both but i would say my fav is 2, the erebor camping and the witch king expansión is pretty dope

BFME 1 is more beginner friendly. BFME 2 has more depth and variety.
BfME had the best single player experience yet best fitted a pvp model. 2 had a lot of cool stuff. Yet 2's single player was meh and didn't quite capture the pvp.
I prefer Bfme 1 because the campaign is great and the gameplay feels smoother for me :)
I played first the BFME 1. That's the nostalgia game, it's my favorite. But the 2 and Expansion are good. I played the vainilla in 2007/08 and the others in 2009/10 ... best part of my life. You can make personal heroes , don't forget that point :D
BFME 1 for a story. BFME 2 for battles.
The 1 game lacks in size and epic. You don’t play bfme games for the gameplay, you do it for roleplaying and spectacle. What the 1 game leaves to your imagination, the 2nd one lets you fully see and enjoy. The campaigns in both bfme 2 and ROtWK I also find more enjoyable. Going through the trilogy is fun and all, but experiencing the lesser known events of Tolkiens world just makes the geek in me infinitely more excited.
BFME 2 > BFME 1 Mainly because there are more ways to win with each faction than in BFME 1. I've watched hundreds of BFME 1 games over the years, and basically you can guess right away how the game will play out and end based on the factions involved, because there typically is one (maybe 2) different strategies one can effectively use, whereas in BFME 2, things can take wild twists and turns simply due to the fact that you can build anywhere and have more potential units/heroes to work with
I would also add that BFME-1 shines in its intended purpose - creating cinematic expirience out of everything happening in the game, both in campaign and multiplayer. I personally believe that BFME2 is straight up weaker in that regard (cannot put my finger on "why" though so it might be personall biase).
I prefer BFME2,i play a lot of RTS from Starcraf.Warcraft,AOE,AOM,Spellforge and some old with some "Castle base" like 1 like Imperium and a lot more.
I feel BFME1 short and more when Starwars Battlgrounds have more beign a older RTS,but is my opinion
PD:But my favorite are Warhammer 40k Dawn of Wars (Soulstorm) Starcraft 1 & 2 and BFME2 RoTLK

2 is the more funny game with more variety and strat but 1's vibe is so good with movie themed campaign, visuals, hero pictures etc
Rotwk with the current patches are the best for multiplayer, also i love Angmar campaign i still repeat it time to time, as i repeat BFME1. But i dont like BFME2 campaign much
Definitely bfme 1 (patch 1.06 and 2.22 yuor new version 3.6 is incredible). From its mods Elven alliance and Dwarf Holds. BFME 2 is also epic alongside Rise of the Witch King

I like one the best, which is why I play Edain Mod for 2. since 2 has some better mechanics. I really hate 2, because of rohan and gondor being combined. 2 has mods that make it more fun, but my problem with Edain it is a slower game play than 1

An official graphics remaster (4K), on Steam, with an extensive bug fix support for all of them, would be good... hopefully, after the recent IP ownship transfer. Otherwise... I mean, these games are pretty dead (playerbase-wise) for some reason. I would like to know which is better between BFME1, BFME2, RotWK for PvP... because I have only played BFME1 seriously.
I only ever played the first one, but I absolutely loved it.

bfme1 is by far the better game, it's not even close.
ROTWK is the worst
2 because it has more factions, also free build is better than the build plots.
I dont agree with bfme 1 campagne being that good. It has a few story missions, but most of the time you are playing skirmish games on skirmish maps.

BFME 2 (1.09) is much better. I've recently played BFME 1 after years and it is much less dynamic: "spell book" is smaller, there are less units, less heroes, there are no battle stances, there are less factions and less freedom. BFME1 units seem to be less responsive as well. The only good thing about the first game is you have better (arguably) campaign and build plots. But then you have War of the Ring mode in second game and build plots maps.

I'm sorry, but how is the BFME 1 campaign amazing? I've never played either game when they got released and decided to give it a go now, and I have to say that the campaign was very, very mediocre. Most of the missions are just skirmishes, and the ones with heroes / unique settings are too easy and hold no surprises. Warcraft, C&C, Dawn of War and Co would like a word

you way oversell b4me2 I remember the disappointment on its release. they "sped up" the game by making buildings like paper. no more epic seigds just rush rush rush. thank god they improved it, but still just wish I could have B4ME1 with the new units factions and powers

I think I like BFME1 more, but for some reason I can't make it work on my computer now, so I can only play BFME2 (+rotwk)
For some reason the BFME games had bad compatibility with newer OS versions, Win XP is the best one to play them on, which is why it's a good idea to have a decent XP gaming rig for playing the classics like the BFME games, the Black & White series is another good example of needing an XP gaming rig to play them properly, hopefully GOG will be announcing the BFME games to be available on there soon.

Age of the ring mod destroy them all, i don't even understand why people still play the first and second when you can have something that improves every aspect of the game like aotr is doing. Better graphics, factions ,mechanics,maps etc...

for me BFME 2 ROTWK is the best, it just feels more open and you can use multiple strategies instead of a fortress-like squar-ish defense like BFME 1
