I thought that too. If you keep killing the ones that stand still and letting the ones which run get away. The result will be a lionfish that runs from humans and therefore is harder to kill. They really just need to catch every single one. Especially targeting the ones who try to run.
They don't have a predator other than humans so they don't see humans as a threat. Its in their nature to sit and wait for the prey to swim by and then Gulp, swallow.

Louis Galli you can eat them without concern. They are delicious. The poison in in the tips of the spines. There are no laws regarding their disposal in Florida. The just ask that you kill as many as you can. Personally I love lionfish ceviche.
