  • Made it out to dive some reefs in the Gulf of Mexico out of Bay County, Florida. Managed to find a few lionfish too.

      If it is anything like what you get when picking mushrooms then it should be perfectly normal. Natural instinct i think. Or at least that is what i tell myself.

    i love how the fish bow up / show off their spines just to be instantly stabbed with a spear

    Quick question, if you keep hunting the sit-still-don't-move-omg-human!-ones, won't the offspring be harder to catch? Cause like they get them dad/mom's jitteryness?

      I thought that too. If you keep killing the ones that stand still and letting the ones which run get away. The result will be a lionfish that runs from humans and therefore is harder to kill.
      They really just need to catch every single one. Especially targeting the ones who try to run.

      They don't have a predator other than humans so they don't see humans as a threat. Its in their nature to sit and wait for the prey to swim by and then Gulp, swallow.

      Ton of fun. no license required. To be most efficient, all you need is a pole spear and a Zookeeper www.zkstore.com/

    Are there any rules concerning their disposal given their toxicity? It doesn't look like you can eat all of them. Can you just dump them at sea?

      Louis Galli you can eat them without concern. They are delicious. The poison in in the tips of the spines. There are no laws regarding their disposal in Florida. The just ask that you kill as many as you can. Personally I love lionfish ceviche.

      Depending on you mix and how many dives you have done. 20minutes is a general estimate.

      @afogg2006  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely worth it. No one has ever died from lionfish. They are actually very valuable in the market!
