This is the best episode I've watched in a minute, the respect to not just hip hop but the music they all grew up to. Super dope Bert, more hip hop artists please!
wtf dude i just seen this title and my heart dropped lmao. im from new orleans dog and my mom worked with juvies mom, my old homie from the magnolia projects grew up around juvie after he was already juvie and i heard alot of stories. i seen and met mannie fresh at the hangar which was a bar in an old airplane hangar in new orleans where my brother worked a long time ago. good times and some NOLA LEGENDS yahurrrme
its wild they're so... normal? cash money, esp juvenile (before lil wayne even) was literally the hottest thing in rap music and collectively at the forefront of early 2000s music, period and along with master p/no limit were truly at the forefront of blowing up southern rap on a global level considering all the issues members like BG n Turk had, it's awesome they're all still here and matured into legit old men lol imagine... Juvenile and Mannie Fresh talkin about how they can't handle (relatively) lowkey drugs lol
Bruh for real, I know they known worldwide, but if you ain't from here, you'll never understand what it was like coming up while cash money was blowin up. Juvie's bounce album, the beef with sporty t and bad boys records, or that in the 90s there were 2 kind of people, you was either cashmoney or no limit. Watching these dudes blow up and get as big as they did felt like a win for all of us in New Orleans at a time when the rap game was DOMINATED by Southern artists, and we was all competing. Memphis, ATL, Houston, Florida, and Carolina, and mannie changed the game for producing beats, and Wayne was undefeated for years! And for the record, them dudes cool af with fans. Ran into Juvie at the treasure chest and talked about coming up on their music and he was super chill. Mannie and Juvie 2 of the realest!
Bert, I reconciled with your podcast 2 months ago after not watching for 2 years. You are actually getting good at interviews and always bring a good vibe. We are far away from "The Great Interrupter" from 2 years ago.
Bert at times is a tough listen at times. But jesus he hit the mark with this one. Didn't let the interview go too long i feel like this isn't the last we will see of these two on this platform. Great job Homie doubt you'll see this just wanted to give you your flowers.
*I remember being like the blackest half white half Asian in Palm Springs growing up and bumping Juvenile when cash money first blew up haha. If you a paper chaser you got your glock on fire*
One of the things I never did as a kid/young adult and even now a few years later is deep dive into artists that I really liked. I was listening to these two as a young kid, but if you asked me to tell you anything about them, I'd be done after 15 seconds. That went for everyone I listened to. I had a very odd selection of music. I started not liking newer rap music really quick, then went backwards and listened to "old school". But I also had two non-rap choices. So if you were in my car in 2010, you were listening to Return of the 36 Chambers, NWA, Ice Cube (solo), Das Efx, 2 Live Crew (for the bass mostly) and 40 other rap choices from the late 80s, early-mid 90s or we could listen to the best of Lynyrd Skynyrd or CCR.
I sometimes deep dive someone that I knew of but never followed or liked..birdman for example, i read and watched interviews and i actually really respect and like Baby now. He's not who i expected, watch his Steve O podcast
THANKYOU! For confirming for me. NPR use artists of colour as backing vocalists! I’ve said it before on a couple of my favourite NPR tiny concert sets, I think it was Post Malone who’s set made the most impact for me. I’ve always said/agreed, that nobody sings as well or has as great a vocal reach as black people, and I say that with the utmost respect! They kill it, they change it up to be something even more incredible and unique. It’s what I love about NPR so much! Credit to all of you! Next up, NPR Tiny Concert!
Such great vibes on this interview, amazing trio together. Hope they can COLLAB on something. Also, never heard such down to earth rapper/producers/STARS, just willing to have fun and go with the flow. RESPECT.
Brett asking juvie an mannie fresh if they had to check in was wildddd 😂 lmaoo Edit: Mannie and bretts laugh is so similar i started getting confused on who was laughing ha 😂😂
Why I say I was spoiled growing up in the 90s and early 00s cause the music in every genre was good. Why a someone's mix cd had random songs that wouldn't go together lol. Much Love!
Yep same here... Born in 93 the golden year everything as a kid/teenager was original and lit then. DragonballZ,Pokemon/Digimon/Beyblades,PowerRangers,And1StreetBallVHS,XBOX/Playstation,NBALive,Girbauds,TommyHilfiger/RalphLauren,Chuck'E'Cheese lol😂😂😂especially if u was a 90sKID but a 2000s Teenager YK FASHO...
@DubCity618 my bad I just started going down memory lane from the late 90s on up... We had the best EVERYTHING- music, movies/TV, fashion/ clothing stores/malls, bowling spots, skating, restaurants (Ryans, Mr .Gattis Pizza & Arcade, etc), schools, etc... REALLY EVEYTHING..just sit back n thonk about it
I met Juvi, BG, Lil Wayne and crew in Ft. Pierce, Florida in the year 2000. These guys are awesome man been a huge fan since i was a kid. Up until then.........

There might not be nothing wrong with Bert. He just might need to be around Black people to be funny.
