Honestly, your Thai is really good!!! my German husband speaks nur easy sentences " Maa Tee Nee Krab or Khop Khun Krap Panlaayaa " lol most of the time we speaking English and German so his Thai won't get better.

Your comment really touched me. There is a German- Thai hybrid restaurant near Savannah, Georgia, USA in which a German man bartender and a Thai kitchen manager are married. It is very popular! My favorite dish is schnitzel with red curry sauce. Regards from Chiang Mai.

Actually in Chiang Mai and other Northern Thailand provinces it is a different festival called "Yipeng" that coexist with Loy Krathong. The reason why these 2 different festivals are hold in the same day is that, in the past Thai people were mostly rice farmers. This period of the years was the end of harvesting season, so most people were basically free from work and having time to celebrate. this time of the year is 12th month in Thai Lunar calendar and 2nd month in Northen Thai Lunar calendar. Since people loved to celebrate in a full moon night of the month, this festival called "วันเพ็ญเดือนสิบสอง" which means "Full moon of 12th month" in central Thailand, and called "ยี่เป็ง" which means "Full moon of 2nd month" in northern Thailand. At first, people in different regions celebrated differently through out the nation. Then Loy Krathong become famous in central Thailand and then become a national festival so it is celebrate widely across the nation and replace some local festival since ther are water base fastival. However Yipeng(ยี่เป้ง) is uniqe. It is a lanterns and fire crackers base festival and it is celebrate widely in northern Thailand along side with Loy Krathong. Thus it is misunderstand as the same festival as Loy Krathong.

Loy Krathong in Chiang Mai is held at the same time as Lantern Festival. Seeing the Mae Ping River covered with candle lit boats and seeing 5 or 6 thousand lanterns in the air is pretty amazing. One down side is the Nawaharat Bridge will be so packed it is nearly impossible to shoot video for more than a few seconds without getting bumped. Setting up a tripod is impossible. The Mae Hong Son Sunflower Fields blooming is about 2 weeks off. I was there to film last year and a hurricane out of Vietnam caused sideways rain and significant wind but you win a few, you lose a few, and a few get rained out. Regardz!
