Ilya is basically on a par with Heifetz, Vengerov and Oistrach. Amazing how unfazed he is by this piece, or any other piece he plays, like fish in water.. just brilliant

Dear Miriam! Many thanks for this video, for the memories of those wonderful days spent in Lublin. I didn't know that someone was filming Ilya's (I am his father) and Eric's performance at that time. Both recordings are excellent. The only thing I would like to clarify is that this is an arrangement by Waxman, not Sarasate. It would be interesting to know how this video got to you.

Dear Mr Gringolts, I'm very embarrassed to have made this mistake, but it's entirely explainable by the fact that I have been editing numerous videos over the weekend and my brain just malfunctioned. The mistake is now corrected. As for how I got the videos - my current violin professor was there and these are his digitalised VHS tapes! I thought it would be nice to share them with people because they are quite rare. (There are a few more coming once I'm done editing.) Have a lovely day!

Dear Miriam, Thank you very much for your quick reply. You're doing a very good job. Convey my deep appreciation to your professor. What's his name?

@@АлександрГрингольц thank you! His name’s Jindrich Pazdera. He teaches in Prague. His student actually won the competition the next time it took place, so he also has fond memories of it. By the way, I uploaded the other video I have of your son, this one is a recording of the Schubert, so you can look it up as well :)

what a great artist Heifetz was, and how sad it is, that we will never hear anything like his magical playing again!!
