You guys should come train in kona before France. Sounds like that’s the same conditions we get here. Bigger slower wings, short fetch bumps.

Very interesting to learn how different downwind can be from one place to another. Some places on earth are unique and it worries me that this is where the sport develops, leaving behind 90% of other conditions, where there still may be a lot of downwind fever but it needs the right equipment. I live in Canary Islands, defenitely not a bad place for downwinds, but 62 now and when I see F One announcing their Eagle X 600, I put my arms up and go "heck, I need a 1200!!!".
So I understand when you guys say you never ever used bigger than 800, but the average downwinder will be on a 1200 in what you call slow motion downwinds. Racing is nice, but many times it turns a sport in elitist as the gear becomes too user-unfriendly high performance. All looks in downwind go to the fastest runs on the smallest foils, not the daily bread of the average downwinder

@@djodlighttrue, but I think downwinding is very versatile too. Going fast isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Some people like to downwind and feel the glide and freedom, or do turns and carve. Racing just pushes the sport forward in innovation for companies. So don’t feel like your getting left behind because of gear direction or conditions, get out there feel free and voyage!

Interesting to hear the difference in fetch and Hawaiian / European conditions Simeon, did you hit uk ??

@@richardclarke2213 it took some realization! But thinking about it now, the Hawaiian islands are so isolated that wind generated bumps and swell have no interruptions in their path from any bodies of land the bumps fetch is great. Which is why we can use such small wings and downwind in light conditions.
