Listen to Dave's work with Grip Inc. He got to experiment a lot more with them and further developed as a drummer and percussionist. They're the most underrated metal band, IMO. They had their own thing going. Rusty Nail, Hostage To Heaven, Human are my favorite tunes.

Me too. This was my oldest daughter’s favorite when she was little. I took her to see them when she was 7 and, during that part, she threw both hands up and screamed along with him. Proud moment, lol. And I got a picture of it.
Might be the most underrated Slayer song. Seasons is probably the best Slayer album on its own merits, when viewed outside of the developmental importance of Show No Mercy and Reign in Blood.
I'm enjoying your channel. I think what fooled your eyes for a moment, thinking Jeff's guitar looked like EVH's, was the stickers on it that are different punk band logos. The two most prominent are the Black Flag bars, and the Dead Kennedy's DK logo. Both bands are worth checking out, once you start to dig into the punkier side of Slayer's influences.
I’m so happy to see younger generations finding the bands from my childhood. I’m pushing 50 and it’s fucking awesome to see these old bands being given new life.
This song makes me smile every time I hear it. RIP Jeff. Molly, keep an eye out for Kerry Kings band coming up. He’s said its basically Slayer 2 (as he didn’t want to stop, Tom did) 🤘🏻
DUDE!! Keep playing. Keep struggling. Nobody is born talented - you gotta earn that shit. Also, you worked hard for 10k subs, then harder for 20... You're doing it right!! Much respect from sunny Florida!
First Slayer song I ever heard at the tender age of 14. Changed my life forever and made me an instant Slayer fan. I thought Metallica was Heavy, these guys changed everything for me. Don’t know how I stumbled across your channel, but I’m enjoying your content and look forward to more in the future.
I was at that gig… they played the song twice. They asked if they could mime to the song and record it playing through the pa.. the crowd booed so much they played it live again and recorded the video 🤟🏻
@@pennywise556 - I think this is why the shots jump around as Jeff plays the solo a bit different and o think they were struggling to keep the speed down match the album.
U need to hear more, we're here for the good music and for some of us the memories. In support of ur reactions(100% real imo!). Some green jelly-three little pigs for laughs, some morbid angel-god of emptiness there's no voice like Vincents and the chaotic playing of treys technique!. Some samael-ceremony of opposites. Some jeff loomis, arch enemy, paradise lost, pissing razors, nevermore. Endless ocean of metal brother!. Keep it up with the reactions. Good shit u do Molly!!🤘🤘
Considering South of Heaven is your favorite, I'd recommend: Mandatory Suicide 213 (Live Intrusion version) Dead Skin Mask Ghosts of War Divine Intervention (Live Intrusion version
slayer - hell awaits, definitly listen to that one! trust me, you'll love it if you like the heavy stuff from this song already you're gonna love this one
This album in 1990 was basically the peak for Slayer and the 1980's thrash sound was coming to an end very soon. Many bands didn't survive the 1990s grunge explosion and Slayer changed slightly also. This is my favorite Slayer album and the last with Dave Lombardo on drums until 2001 Christ Illusion album. 1990 was a great year for metal. Rust In Peace, Death Angel III, Sepultura Arise, Pantera Cowboys from Hell, Forbidden Twisted into Form.....the list goes on...
Its funny that you mention that they kept their original self. In the mid to late 1990s, Slayer would put out a quasi-punk rock album and then a nu-metal inspired album after that. They returned to something similar to the Slayer sound after that.
Yo I request At Dawn they Sleep. And I recommend the 1995 live intrusion version. Though studio version is fine. It is a song that is likable on first listen in my opinion. Most people’s review of the Album Hell Awaits hold that song in high regard, but it sits in this weird place where it is almost underrated
The drum part you asked about at the end of your vid is called a "Drum Fill" . It breaks up the standard beat of the song to either signal vocals or a change up in rhythm , or sometimes just to spice things up depending . But if this wasn't your Slayer style of choice , like I said previously in the comments check out Dead Skin Mask for the eerie catchiness of South of Heaven or mid paced catchy bangers like Skeletons of Society (the lyrics will stick in your head like glue) and Expendable Youth may be one you really dig with its killer double bass mid paced groove . Those songs give you more to chew on except non stop fast paced brutality !
I think the crazy intro and the technicality (over heaviness) of the drum parts will grow on you as you play it again. There are live versions filmed from behind the drum riser that will blow your mind. A Euro show i think.
I saw them at the farewell tour and it was awesome. We were sitting about half of the way back in the seats and feeling the heat of all the pyrotechnic flame throwers they had shooting on the stage ❤️🔥testament and anthrax were at that show, i probably wouldnt be the first to recommend those guys
With the guitar just keep practicing. Speed will come over time. I wish I had TH-cam when I was learning as there is so much available now to self teach. I still play Slayer now as it’s so much more interesting to play than stuff like oasis for me at least.
Thank you for reacting to this song! It was one of my recommendations. Sorry you didn’t like it as much as the others . Keep doing what you’re doing man. I really like your reactions. Other great Slayer songs are 213, Mandatory Suicide, Hallowed Point, Killing Fields
Thanks for listening to my favorite Slayer song. I think you need to listen to it again without pausing to really decide how you feel about it. The drum thing you’re talking about is a “drum fill”
Awesome to see live. I'm old, I seen them in their prime, this tour and a few other's too lol. New to your channel enjoy seeing your reactions, but I'll say it again you need to check out Wage War. Low, or The River would be good one's to check out. You would enjoy their music. I think you would really like Low, it has some melodic stuff mixed in with the heavy stuff. And The River is just a straight banger.
Dead skin Mask, Spirit in Black, Jihad, God Hates us All, and Bloodline are all great songs. Honestly you should listen to the full albums of all these artists once you have gotten through the requests. Then you get a better feel for each band. Something to think about in the future. Keep on the grind, love the reactions. ✌️😎
I remember when that video premiered on MTV Headbangers ball way back when! Still gives me chills to this day. Dave Lombardo is a drum genius. If you want something newer, Repentless is a fantastic video and a hard hitting song. Greta video Keep 'em comin'.
I agree with you Molly. Good song but This album didn’t immediately connect with me back in 1990 on first listens. It took awhile to grow on me after South of Heaven. But classic now of course ;) My favorite Slayers that deserve a reaction: Crooked Cross/Mandatory Suicide Postmortem The Antichrist Black Magic And maybe some Metal Church! Gods of Wrath Metal Church
I appreciate your honesty, and it's not like you hated the song, it just wasn't your favorite, no big deal. You will probably gravitate more to their mid-tempo material like South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss. It seems that most people getting into Slayer from another genre will be more into the mid-tempo songs while us Metal Heads will appreciate the fast, aggressive songs more. A classical composer recently reacted to Reign in Blood and couldn't get his head around the tempo, it was just too fast for him to comprehend. Check out "Skeletons of Society", "Dead Skin Mask", "Expendable Youth", "Mandatory Suicide", "Behind the Crooked Cross", "Spill the Blood" and "Dissident Aggressor" (Judas Priest cover). I think every single one of those songs will hit for sure. Don't worry about the rewinds, it's really cool when someone catches a part that makes them want to hear it again. There is another reaction channel that I really enjoy that's run by an opera singer/instructor and some of her reactions are 30 to 40 minutes long because she rewinds so much, you got nothing on her, lol. And people really gave you shit for the way you said "South of Heaven"!?!?!?! Fucking hell, lighten up people!
I think Expendable Youth about gang violence by them would be up your alley as it is damn catchy and just a mid paced banger ! As well as Dead Skin Mask is one of my faves and will stick with you in a haunting way . Also Skeletons of Society is an awesome mid paced groove oriented song I think you would dig . I think you would enjoy all 3 personally . And thanks for ALL your vids , I love and will always support you and this channel .
They used to scare the crap out of a lot of people back in the day. Just so evil sounding! At the time nothing was this fast and aggressive. I remember getting the tabs for this in Guitar Player magazine as a teen and trying to learn it. Yea, it takes years to get to that speed.
Also I agree with you on how I feel about the song. Although ever since I saw the movie Green Room, I have a new appreciation for the song. If you haven’t ever seen that movie it’s worth checking out since this song is featured for a significant amount of time during a super tense scene near the beginning/middle
Badass reaction bro we here to see you be honest.. Slayer is one of my favorite bands but let’s keep real they have songs that definitely ain’t my favorite to say the least
Nice vid, well done! Slayer is my favorite band. Still say try Arch Enemy "Nemesis" with Angela Gossow on vocals or Nightwish "Ghost Love Score " with Floor on vocals.
MollyBoy you're right again! South of Heaven might be the best Slayer song you'll ever hear. It's goddamn perfection... That's why! As an OG Slayer and metal fan since 86, Id like to request you to do my favorite Slayer song. Yesss!!! This album was my Summer soundtrack when I was 17!!! Saw these guys Live that year in Fresno California with Testament, at the Wilson Theater!! It changed my life forever!!! Dig your reactions bro! If this one didn't tickle you, please checkout Dead Skin Mask or Blood Red!!Don't let the Metal "know it alls" discourage you, most of the time they're intent is only to educate, but I know there are also plenty of pricks!!
Artisit : Morbid Angel Song : Rapture came out around the same time, Florida band. I realize its a new band but if your interested in same era and faster... check it out.
I saw Slayer at a small club as they were breaking in their new Drummer (the first time). This was played near the end of the set and it ALWAYS amazed me that they still had enough gas in the tank to play this near the end. Dead Skin Mask is a kind of Dark Creepy one, you might like.
I'm so glad I recommended Slayer to you quite a while back (via a reaction to another band), and now you've gone through several of their songs. I preferred Slayer up until 1990, which was the case with many bands from that time. I'll recommend something new when it works out.
Respect the honesty for sure. Keep it real! Some of their more recent stuff might strike you a bit differently. Their sound did change over time but it always sounded like Slayer, if that makes sense. You'll never confuse Slayer for another band or another band for Slayer.
Saw them that year at a local venue (warm up gig for Wembley) My mate stood next to me had his arms wrapped around his chest because Dave’s bass drums were so loud and heavy it was affecting his chest!! 😎🤣
one of the biggest things i've found that helps me play faster is keeping my muscles in my arms and hands relaxed. it's easy to get too tense when your trying to play fast, which can slow you down. check out Cannibal Corpse, a good song to start with is Hammer Smashed Face! they have good riffs
This is something that gets your addrealine to pump up and boost what ever you are doing at the moment. Lets say that you are sitting little bit bored and drinking some beer or what ever that is the best possible time to get the spirit and mood up. Waaaaaaaar mf!!! 😂 It just gets little bit rush to listen these kinds of songs. This is also great in to your playlist for gym or just to backround while you are cleaning up 😁. Also this sertainly is a great live song. For giving that rush and feel for moshin in the groud.
Well, if you liked so much South Of Heaven, then you should listen more songs from this album. I suggest you Mandatory Suicide, BUT, the best version of this song is live from "Still Reigning 2004". If you dcide to check this song it MUST be only whis version. 🤘😎🤘
Nobody does drum fills like Dave Lambardo. His double bass on this is crazy.
Listen to Dave's work with Grip Inc. He got to experiment a lot more with them and further developed as a drummer and percussionist. They're the most underrated metal band, IMO. They had their own thing going. Rusty Nail, Hostage To Heaven, Human are my favorite tunes.

BORN OF FIRE!!!
Spill the blood best slayer song imo

Hallowed Point seems like the ultimate 2A song.
7:14 in your video - when they played this live the entire crowd would shout WAAAAAARRRRRRR along with Tom and it was *amazing*

The moment Slayer really kick in into your brain (and it will if you keep listening to classic thrash metal), it will change your life. Forever.

Dead Skin Mask
Ghosts of War

Rip Jeff …. Dave is the thrash goat
I was at this gig it was filmed at Wembley Arena on Clash of the Titans tour, Slayer, Megadeth, Testament and Suicidal Tendencies.
I bet Testaments guitar solos blew these educated guesses away?
Clash of Titans was epic, still one of my favourite gigs to go to
I was at the Birmingham NEC one, I was drunk as a lord though.
I was at the Birmingham one as well and dislocated my thumb on the pit during Suicidal Tendencies, Awesome gig.
Seasons in the abyss ❤
Keep this up - I look forward to each and every one!!!
Black Magic and Hell Awaits 🔥
One of best live shows I've seen!
Oh yes - one of the best Slayer ever recorded!
With the guitar just keep practicing. Speed will come over time. I wish I had TH-cam when I was learning as there is so much available now to self teach. I still play Slayer now as it’s so much more interesting to play than stuff like oasis for me at least.
“If this kind of music is played down there…”

2:35 "I still don't understand who anyone can play a guitar that fast" Bro, you have to react to "DragonForce - Through The Fire And Flames" now 😁
Well, if you liked so much South Of Heaven, then you should listen more songs from this album. I suggest you Mandatory Suicide, BUT, the best version of this song is live from "Still Reigning 2004". If you dcide to check this song it MUST be only whis version. 🤘😎🤘
Toms vocals are so good
