This bike is a classic. And if it´s in excellent condition as this one appears to be, it probably is a good investment. It should be fun time to restore one. That one must have costed a fortune.
they are a Japanese brand called SP Tadao. As for the powerband the RZV has a broader pwerband because of the powervalves. the Banshee has a lightswitch powerband on or off.
Fuckin' Air Quality Management District banned these great machines for sale right when the Calif. market had a niche for them. All on account that they burn oil when the engine is running. I had an RD-400 Daytona Spcl. and loved it!! In a street race, it walked away from most 'superbikes' of the '80's. I can only imagine what it must be like to ride a gem like this.
Very fun to ride but it can get away from you very quickly also. I stopped riding mine about 14 years ago and bought a Harley Davidson Night Train 4 yrs ago, love the train.....but I have to admit Im getting the itch to ride my RZ500 again. Soon. Ride safe.
Back in the day I had a deposit on a new Daytona Special but backed out when the dealer told me a liquid cooled version was coming out in 81, so I waited until 82 and bought a new RD350 lc, then in 84 I bought a new RZ350, then in 85 I bought a new RZ500 lol lots of fun. I rode several Daytona Specials and had tons of fun, I'l bet you destroyed many much bigger machines back then.

Where in California are you? I am in So Cal and have an RG500 and my bud has a RZ500. We should go for a cruise and get as many 4 2t 500s together as we can .....
Had mine since 1986 . Still got it,still love it,me and ole girl (my wife) rode it all over texas over for 30 years without a whimper.

Superb bike you have there, Known as a RD 500 here in the UK. You cant beat a tidy 2 stroke screamer. just the smell of the burn oil gets me!

The back wheel was off a FZR1000. It is derestricted and RW hp is about 85.
changed out the emultion tube in the carb and rejetted.
