    Well, it is midnight and I just typed out a long comment and went back to correct something and the comment disappeared. It will probably appear here somewhere next week. Hi, JoyJoy! It is me PHYLLY. Seems like it has been forever since I’ve seen you. I will be so glad when I am over this crud and we can get together for a SewDay. At this point, I would just like to be well enough to get into my own sewing room. I think you did a great job on this tutorial. The video by the Closet Historian was very good, but I much prefer the second way she did the dart manipulation into a princess line, which is the way you showed. So, I would suggest anyone watching her video try the second way instead of the first way. The first way reduces the ease over the bust on the side front, but doesn’t reduce it in the center front. The second way keeps the ease and thus the fit the same and the princess line will go together much smoother. Just my humble opinion. Speaking of humble opinions, 😁 IMHO, though Fit Nice may be easier you will not get as good a fit as you do with SFD. I do like Fit Nice’s book of Design Ideas, but I even think some of those take some shortcuts that I don’t like. MHO. Thanks for coming up with the Collar pattern. Your way works much better than mine. I will copy it when I work on this pattern. Oh, I don’t think the collar needs to be on the bias, but it sure sets off the stripes. Yes, don’t forget to make a back facing. Oh, gee whiz, it is almost 12:30 and I really should try to sleep. At least before the next thunderstorm starts up. Love you, Joy Joy, Hugs, PHYLLY

      Hi Phylly! I sure hope you feel better soon! I wanted to tell you that I absolutely love watching the older videos of you and Joy on your “SewCations”! Lucy and Ethel! LOL I hope you’re doing well and adjusting to your new apartment. I just moved into a 900 square foot condo and I love it! Makes life so simple. Anyway, so many of us here just love you and think of you often💕 Hope to see you soon when you and Joy can get together!😃

      I read your reply at 2:00 this morning and decided that I better wait until morning to respond or it would be 3:00 a.m. before I possibly went to sleep. I am so verbose, as I have been told many times. Thank you for your kind words. Joy and I enjoy any time we spend together so I am sure it shows in the videos. She always makes me laugh. When we shop people come up and comment about how much fun we are having. I am headed for my sewing room this morning. May not last long, but I’m determined to spend at least 15 minutes in there. I have at least 8 garments to make before I leave on vacation in a week. Even though I am a slow sewist, it was doable before I got sick. Now, it is just a dream. Oh well, I have all summer to make them and get some wear out of them.

      Yes Nancy. If we EVER get back to the other house, I will cut out the stripes. Right now, we are waiting for the rain and the storms to stop so we can take the RV up to the "new" house. Jerry is building a new barn, and he needs to figure out measurements for doors and cement. We will take it up and turn around and come right back to Kingston where it is stored in our big barn. We don't have any place to keep it in Mounds.

    SFD led me to you. You led me to Peggy Sagers. All valuable people in my sewing journey.
    Princess seams: how you moved the dart to the shoulder is how I would do it. I think ( Peggy Sagers) advised not to put a princess aeam through the apex, but somewhere within the bust circle.
    Men's t-shirts: I wear them all the time in my factory job.
    Sometimes I cut the neckband off like you did. One of my machines has a scallop stitch. If I do that around the unfinished edge it looks kind of nice.
    Sometimes I just leave the edge uncut, it does not travel.
    I otherwise turn the ribbed band down & stitch with a long stitch around the exterior edge. This opens the neckline, no more choking feeling.
    If I buy the biggest men's t-shirts I can find ( XXL ), that is just fabric. As PS says " fabric is everywhere". I cut where a side seam could be, cut off the sleeves. Cut off the shoulder seams & ribbed neckline. Thus leaves me 2 pieces of fabric to play with.
    For tank tops I use my SFD dress kit bodice blueprint. Move the bust dart to the neckline. I leave the neckline unfinished often. It creates a slight cowl, very comfortable. No gaping armholes.
    It can be gathered slightly or put a few pin tucks at the neckline.
    I then decide how thick I want the straps to be & make a tank top.
    Since men's t's are so long, my newest trick is to put something under my chalk dispensing stand that is for hemming dresses. If I want the tank top to come down to my wrist I set the chalk dispensing part even with my wrist & mark the tank top all the way around.
    I then cut the fabric off an inch lower. Gold that up & hem.
    The strip I cut off gets stitches ripped out. Cut in tut I a strip 2.5" x 36" or so. Made into a scrunchie.
    All for aprox. $3 if I got the shirt 4 for $12 on sale at Joann's.
    When the shirt is worn out it gets made into a Japanese knot bag that can be used many ways. Doesn't matter if I get it dirty or wet or if it gets left behind.

      @Joy4650B  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Brilliant Lynn. Such great ideas. Yes, fabric is everywhere. I went to Goodwill years ago to look for buttons I could cut off shirts or blouses, but I didn't find any good ones. I need to try that again.

    • @Joy4650B
      @Joy4650B  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, that is usually true but not always. We need to always be aware of who is around us -- following us -- watching us -- etc. I could tell so many stories of women and children that were caught unaware because they assumed all people were good. Not true. You have to be very careful and watchful and don't trust strangers. Of course, on the internet, we aren't in the same space in person. That sure helps. I learned in my five years of being divorced that a lot of men are untrustworthy, liars, harmful and can really hurt you -- even kill you. Remember that Ted Bundy guy? We need to judge greatly as to who we may or may not trust.

    • @Joy4650B
      @Joy4650B  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Let me also say that it can work completely opposite. Someone can look very professional and kind. For instance, opening your door to a "policeman" who actually stole the uniform and is there to hurt you. Sometimes, you have to trust God to help you see what He sees.

    I so want to endorse your sewing. You have so much knowledge. I just cannot on some videos get past your commentary. This one was on the correlation between how someone looks and their knowledge level. One has nothing, absolutely NOTHING to do with the other.. thanks for the sewing info.

    • @Joy4650B
      @Joy4650B  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I disagree with you greatly on that. You are right in most cases, of course, but certainly not all. Take two homeless people living in the street. ONE may be a genius with several college degrees and the ability to teach or play an instrument or sing amazingly. The other may be a liar, a murderer and a drug addict who has sold drugs to thousands of young kids. So you are right -- but so am I. Looks matter. First impressions are major keys to a person's character. Jesus loves ALL of the people, but look how He was treated. He commented all the time on people who did things a certain way. What they did and how they looked told their true character.

    Hi Joy, when you draw out the pattern is the collar on the bias and the middle piece straight of grain, or are they both on the bias? It is a beautiful top that looks so nice. I hope to try it but just was a little confused. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!

      Only the collar is on the bias. All other pieces are straight of grain.

    When you buy fabric from Fabric Mart Fabric what type of fabric do you buy to make your shirts. I looked at the fabric and there are so many different kinds. Thank you.

      I buy mostly knits from FMF. ITY knits are very nice. Cotton knits knits are very nice. Challis is nice, but hard to sew compared to cottons. I seldom -- if ever -- find cottons at FMF. I like quilt shop quality floral prints. JoAnn fabric isn't as nice, but it works if you want cottons.

    Thanks Joy! This is very helpful. Did you already fix the neckline to fit and not gap? If not, can you show us how you do that as well?

      When she put the new band on the neckline it would be a little shorter. Did she say 7/8? That would pull the neckline slightly tighter, reducing any gaping.

      Yes, Lynn said it below. I measure the binding to be SMALLER than the neck. I usually make the binding strip 7/8 of the neckline and take a 1/2" seam. Sometimes, you can just subtract one inch from the band. Depends how stretchy the knit is.

    Are sure fit designs worth the kits. They aren’t as pricey as I thought.

      It depends on your personality. Do you like working with pencils/pens/markers and paper? Do you have a problem spending hours learning a new system? Do you measure TWICE and cut once? Things like that prevent a lot of mistakes. Phylly and I love the PROCESS of making our own patterns. A lot of people hate that. There are hundreds of videos at Surefit Designs you can watch for free to see exactly how the system works. You should be able to decide then if you would like it.

    I love the colour of the yarn. I only crochet too. What weight is the yarn? Can't wait to see your striped blouse.

      It says "100 gm". Is that the weight?

      @Joy4650B no it should be a number from 0 and up. That is how much the whole skein weights. She must have a label saying the yarn size and style. Like worsted, etc.

    Didn’t you need to adjust your neckline on this pattern or was it another one?

      I did adjust the neckline, BUT I did it on the SFD blueprint first.
