    Hi Corban, i wanna say thank you to you. You inspired me to machining my first Leat Tray on my CNC Machine. And it came out beautiful i think. Best wisches to you, Markus

      Hi Markus, that's great! One of my goals is just to inspire people to try stuff, so I'm glad you did that.

    Great video and very interesting project. I really appreciated all the tips sprinkled through the video. They were the tips of hard experience and your tips around using double-stick tape were great.

      Awesome! I'm definitely a fan of double sided tape at this point. I initially hated it.

    Hi Corbin, its me again. How long you need to machine your Bowls and how many time you need to finish your product. Is 200 Dollar to less for so many hours of work?

    • @CorbinDunn
      @CorbinDunn  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah! I don't keep good track of time for stuff. I'd say it is a few hours for each operation: ~2 hours for the "mountains", ~2 hours for the bottom, ~2 hours for the top. Most the machining time is just hit the button and let it go. It takes me a few hours to glue things up and prep the work, and a few hours to sand and finish the work. So, it takes a while to make these, and there are are lot of things I could do to optimize work if I wanted to produce a lot of them. $200 per bowl isn't a lot considering the amount of time I spend on them. They are roughly USD $50-$80 in materials (wood/epoxy), So, if it takes me 8 hours to make one bowl...I'm really only making $15/hr or so, which isn't great. I'm sure I could optimize the time in batches, and get it down to a few hours per bowl, if I really tried.
      My goal is more of an artistic creation and to inspire people to make something, than to actually make money by selling the creations. It'd be great to sell a few of them just to pay for materials for me to make the next project.

    • @CorbinDunn
      @CorbinDunn  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      ...and I don't sell a lot of physical products. I only make a few that I try to sell, and I only attempt to sell them via my website (and a few on Etsy), and in general, I don't sell many. Sometimes every now and again I will sell one (mostly to my friends). But, making and selling stuff isn't my goal. My goal is to have fun designing things, and sharing it with others.

    Dude, those are so cool! Seriously! I use V carve, can these be cut with desktop and not aspire? Thanks

    • @CorbinDunn
      @CorbinDunn  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yup, you can do it with VCarve Desktop! I used Desktop for a long time and only upgraded when I had to do something bigger than the size limitation (24" if I remember right).

    Nice job. 2 questions about tools. What is the deepest pass full width you can take with that drum sander before it slows down? Do you tend to get chatter/high pitch with that 1/4" down cut bit?

    • @CorbinDunn
      @CorbinDunn  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah! I really only use the drum sander for really light passes; like 0.010, using 150. My friend was using it to flatten some boards the other day, and with 150 grit, and it quickly started bogging down; probably because 150 was too fine. The paper was trashed in 10 minutes and had to be replaced. The planer is the way to go for flattening. Chatter: yes, that 1/4" bit always likes to squeal. I realized I could get it to be a little quieter by running it at 14,000 RPM instead of 18,000, but using the same chip load. That seems to work better for that particular bit.

    I purchased the file but I have an 10.x series edition of Aspire. How do I configure the toolpaths on the bottom so they go around and down the side of the bowl? It seems the Vectric roughing toolpath always wants to clear all the material. Is there something I'm missing when setting up that toolpath? Also, how would I know if the collet of my router would collide with the piece?

    • @CorbinDunn
      @CorbinDunn  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah, bummer! I do list v11.5+ as a requirement, but you can re-create it from the STL. Do you mean the bottom/outside? You do want to clear all the material from the sides of the bowl. Then you place it in the jig and do the top/inside. For that one, you limit it to the model plane, so it only does the inside of it. You'll have to add alignment holes to the jig.
      How do you know if it will collide? That's the bad part about Vectric's software: You won't know! I created this in Fusion, and the simulations will tell me if it will have a collision before I do anything. VCarve/Aspire won't. I've tested this file with VCarve and Fusion and it won't collide if your bits stick out from the collet based on the amount I list in the directions. (Well, it shouldn't collide...but as usual, be careful!).

      @@CorbinDunn It was a learning experience. I imported the STL fine. However, in the Toolpaths Tab of my version of Aspire, in the Material Setup section, there is a 'Model Position In Material' setting that defaulted incorrectly. Once I set it to 0, the toolpaths calculated correctly. For potential collisionisons, I'll do my best to measure to ensure my trim router collet won't hit the piece as it descends. I'm using a OneFinity so I have much less zero-axis travel. It also seems like I'll have to not use my dust boot during that particular operation. Thanks very much for your in-depth response.

      @CorbinDunn  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheOttacat Great, I'm glad you are figuring it out! I should do a video on how to set up a bowl project in VCarve. Yeah, setting the import position is one of the key parts to it. For using the jig, I did create a separate top and bottom version of the file. You cut the bottom/outside out first, and use the jig to align it for the top/inside. The top/inside vcarve/aspire project has the stock size set a little thinner to compensate for the amount machined in the first operation, and the offset is set to "0" from the bottom. I hope this makes sense; if it doesn't, I can email you screen shots of my setup. I don't use Windows often, so I'll have to boot up that machine and open the files.

    Darn..I miss-spelled "petal" and "preparation!" I need to start doing some more grammar checking on my stuff.

      Oh my gosh, that is pretty embarrassing! I have been mountain biking way too much lately. Yeah, it is petal and not pedal!! I Updated the spelling where I could...but it is going to be stuck in the link and downloads for a while. Thanks!!
