Can't believe i found this video. I was there as a 14 year old with my Dad and a friend of his. Can still remember the wreck when Bobby Myers got killed. We lived in NC at the time and now i live 12 miles from the track. Those were the good old days of NASCAR!!

1957 was a great year for cars...the very beginning of the Detroit horsepower wars which lasted until 1970-71. The Chrysler 300's totally dominated NASCAR in 1955-56 as did the Dodge D-500's in 56. But in 1957 both Ford and GM finally built some cars that could compete with the Mopar's...the supercharged 312 Y-Block Ford's, the fuel injected 283 Chevy's, and the Tri Power Pontiac's and J2 Oldsmobile's...which NASCAR banned all at the same time mid season. But the Chrysler 300 still had the highest factory horsepower rating of any American car in 1957 even with the new high perfo

In these old racing videos I love the fire retardant short sleeve shirts and brain bucket helmets. To them that was safety, to us it's like wtf??!!!

At the end the announcer says "It's been a great day for auto racing" but @ 9:40 the host says one of the drivers was killed in a collision with a stalled car......so, WTF

Back then it was not unusual that a driver died at a race.
And remember this was just 12 years from WW2, where thousands died daily, so people were used to a lot of death in their every day news.
On top of that mortality in general was higher back then, amongst newborns for example, so it was not the as big a tragedy if one person died, as it is seen today.

It's only taken those Southern rednecks a 150 years to cope with the fact that they lost the fucking war! That is the flag of traitors and we should treat it the way that Germany treats a Nazi flag!
