This game was so good like a VHS tape came to life and a soundtrack that sounded like Brad Fiedel and John Carpenter making love inside a Sega Genesis.
Glad you like this. I was part of the production team. When I entered the project, I thought: "Mark's review of this is going to be amazing". And it does, lol.
I think im the only person who genuinely wishes we were living in a neon futuristic dystopia like blade runner. Other people tend to disagree and think the future should be green and full of Hybrids and organic coffee shops
I just finished this game for the first time. After seeing this review , it convinced me to buy it. I bought it for $10 on the Xbox one store. I knew when the main menu theme started playing which is my favorite main menu theme from any game I’ve ever played. I knew this game was going to be great when I heard that song
I thank my parents so much for introducing me to the 80's genre of movies! I still love looking at my predecessors when i can reference older music and movies!
Power Glove did the soundtrack, and they are awesome. I discovered their So Bad EP and later found they did the soundtrack to a game, this one. Now, after buying this soundtrack and listening to it multiple times in full already, I am looking to get this game for myself. Yep.
Listened to the ost for this game here on youtube. It is so 80's and when you listen to it it's like you are in a time machine. The images that flash through my mind while listening to it are from the first Terminator, Blade Runner and Robocop. Just awesome. The group is even called Power Glove.
My firs far cry experience, bc its stand alone dlc. I wish it had more but you get more than your money's worth and then some! I hope they do the same for far cry 4. This game defined 2012 for me when it came to open world games, I stopped playing cod bo2 bc of this game! I hope they do this for FC4
this game had an amazing atmosphere. The blade runner-esque feeling it had was amazing. I wish more games tried out this kind of atmosphere and really worked with it.
nickguitarfreak17 terminator, robocop and jurassic park i can see but not blade runner. i haven't gotten far into the story yet but it appears to be lacking flying cars, trench-coats, cyber-punk and dense urban areas, maybe im missing something.
If anybody's looking for it, the Blood Dragon OST by Power Glove (that is really the name of the group) is up on the Amazon Music Store and some tracks are UPlay rewards. I totally wouldn't be surprised (but still f***in' psyched) if Blood Dragon 2 was announced at the 2013 Spike VGA's.
I don't know who made the soundtrack, but from i heard online, many of the songs on the soundtrack are really copy from the movie, Terminator. Of course they change it a little bit, but it's still basically the same song. This is one of the many reasons why I am picking up a copy today!
This is what modern expansions should be. Not just extra levels or some part of the game they ripped out to shamelessly profit from. Not DLC requiring the original game. Back in the days this was called a TC or Total Conversion and brought whole new gameplay and feel to an existing gaming engine. Well done whichever manager decided to give this game the go-ahead.
Cyberpunk city could be just as isolated as an island and could work the similar mechanics (think of Empire City in inFamous). As for Blood Dragons, yeah, you're kinda right on that. The only I can think of now is that government and/or some corporation continued research on Blood Dragons after the island incident.
*sigh* ... influences aside the music in Blood Dragon is composed by an electronic music group called Powerglove which are a 1980s styled synth band. There are a lot of them out there, Lazerhawk, ActRaizer, Perturbator just to name a few that you should keep an eye out if this type of music peaks your interest. Also a bit of trivia, Powerglove also made the soundtrack for the movie Hobo with a Shotgun. Also don't confuse Powerglove with Power Glove which is a math-core band.
I finished it earlier today, and I think my total playtime was around seven plus hours maybe. I had a great time with this game. It was like someone took everything I loved as a kid, and threw it all into a blender.
During the first playable moment when you are shooting a vulcan cannon out of a the helicopter, it's playing a song by Little Richard. The same song played in the scene in Predator when the spec ops team is arriving at the jungle via helecopter under redlight.
I absolutely love this game. It'll probably turn out to be my favorite downloadable game of 2013. It's amazing how perfectly they nailed the whole 80's vibe and theme. While the gameplay is extremely entertaining I particularly enjoyed the music. Here's hoping for a sequel. :D The continuing adventures of Rex Powercolt!
Also, the hidden tidbits almost always provide a laugh, which also offers more incentive to strive for 100% completion than any other recent game has offered.
Becauset it's still the base FC3 game just with small alterations, it's like a total conversion mod but it's like a commercial one from back in the day like Malice for Quake.
Here is an idea for a sequel. It should take place in big Blade Runner/Akira like megalopolis, different types of enemies (from street thugs and gangsters to super soldiers and aliens), should include references to 80's cartoons and animes too, more diverse vehicles and weapons and Peter Cullen should be the voice of your guide/boss/CO/quest giver. Whaddaya think!?
This game is good but I do have some gripes. There is way too much hand holding in the beginning, especially if you've played Far Cry 3. The cutscenes seem to have regular pauses, which I think were put in to be more retro but make them harder to watch. I think I prefer this over Far Cry 3 since I like 80s stuff and the plot and setting are more in line with the gameplay. If you like this you might like the indie game Tank Universal.
The city-scape would make far more sense than the island ever did. Just place the sequel in a destroyed city like they show at the beginning of the game. You could then make the story about someone who discovered the dragons and brought them to the city where they escaped from an underground lab and proceeded to wreck havoc on the city. Garrisons could be outposts or warehouses placed throughout the city and the dragons could live in the sewers. Or we could just drop the whole dragon thing.
I like the ways how you can approach in this game, stealthy or go absolute berserk, as I like to do with the shotgun. Also like the fact that fall damage doesn't exist in this game and that you have infinite run. Fun game, cheesy story, but way too short
This game thew far cry 3 out of the helicopter with a noose round it's neck like in scarface and than sent it into the dinosaur age with a predator bomb strapped on its chest. In other words, great fucking game!
I was thinking about the city (recovering from nuclear war mentioned in the intro) being controlled by megacorporation and the garrisons would be corporate outposts. There still would be gangs that use the mess still being around on the streets and their lairs could serve as garrisons to be taken too. And, yeah, I agree, they could completely ignore Blood Dragon and just name the game Far Cry: Dark City or something.
Havnt played the game, but when I heard the soundtrack for the first time I had two Questions. 1. Who is the artist? 2. Why arent they making the music for the rest of my video games?
This game is getting a physical release through LRG. I thought you would appreciate that. Also, great review! I have been enjoying your videos since I found your channel back in 2012.
Been looking at this for a while waiting for it go on sale on steam, it's 25% off and i doubt it will get any lower than $11.24. My question is, is how long does it take to complete, and is it an open world like Farcry 3 or is it linear and will force me to do missions?
i dont own far cry3 but i know after playing blood dragon it wont be the same, its that good, short but really sweet. i hope they do continue this series also mark, hey, mark, mark 4, get it?
this game is so awesome, just ridiculous goofy fun from beginning to end, massive hilarious neon carnage. loved this far more than FC3. forget FC4, bring on BD2!!!
Mark the soundtrack was composed by PowerGlove one of many 80s synth revivalist. I can share you a lot of artist like this one. It's in fact a new genre :D
I hope they'll release this old school game for us old school gamers who like physical copies and don't do the whole internet thing on consoles. It looks like it was custom made for us yet we're the only ones who can't get hold of it...
spike still has the vga's. i thought it had been discredited and mocked so baddly that they would have given up by now, but i guess not. gotta make those millions. either way, hopefully blood dragon, or something like it will be the next full farcry release. that.......would be amazing....
Met Biehn at Bournemouth Comic Con, and he didn't give off the best impression. Bit disappointing really, but sat through the end of his talk and had a picture with him.
Skip Call of Duty. Go with Blood Dragon, the new Shadow Warrior, the old Shadow Warrior, BulletStorm, Painkiller, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Halo, Borderlands 2... Just stay as far away from Modern Military Shooter games as possible.
This game was so good like a VHS tape came to life and a soundtrack that sounded like Brad Fiedel and John Carpenter making love inside a Sega Genesis.
Cybopath Best description ever...
This comment made my day, thank you lol.
the guy who made awesome 80s soundtrack from terminator
Glad you like this. I was part of the production team. When I entered the project, I thought: "Mark's review of this is going to be amazing". And it does, lol.
Being a child in the 1980s I was thoroughly convinced the future would consist of mostly neon lasers and no sunlight.
I think im the only person who genuinely wishes we were living in a neon futuristic dystopia like blade runner. Other people tend to disagree and think the future should be green and full of Hybrids and organic coffee shops
+Danny I do too.
I just finished this game for the first time. After seeing this review , it convinced me to buy it. I bought it for $10 on the Xbox one store. the moment i heard about this game, the first thing i thought was: "Yep, Mark will love this game". I wasn't wrong.
There is a Far Cry 4 announced! You think there is going to be a Blood Dragon 2?
BTW, the soundtrack was done by Powerglove.
They want to make a whole game about blood dragon and I will be the first one to buy it.
***** i'll do it before you
heck, i even got the soundtrack on sweet pink vinyl
i wan't that powerglove. it's so bad
First person I thought of when I saw anything on this game was you Mark!
Power Glove did the soundtrack, and they are awesome. I discovered their So Bad EP and later found they did the soundtrack to a game, this one. Now, after buying this soundtrack and listening to it multiple times in full already, I am looking to get this game for myself. Yep.
I was one of the people who suggested this. Thanks for the review Mark, glad you liked it. Both game and CGR are awesome.
i love this guys reviews
Game is better than the original farcry 3
I'm so glad you reviewed this. Not just for us but for you. You're one of the best reviewers ever!
Wish you wouldn't leave.
+KiljiArslan He didn't
game is way better than hype Destiny
Classic Game Room, the only place on youtube where the description is as entertaining as the video itself.
I love the music and at some point reminds me at Deus Ex as well. Those robots talk like they are right out from a Berzerk arcade machine :)
Being able to put Rex Power Colt into vanilla Far Cry 3 (maybe after the story missions are completed?) Would be an amazing idea :D
Listened to the ost for this game here on youtube. It is so 80's and when you listen to it it's like you are in a time machine. The images that flash through my mind while listening to it are from the first Terminator, Blade Runner and Robocop. Just awesome. The group is even called Power Glove.
It doesn't need a sequel. It's a perfect one off.
Ive been watching your reviews for years and i love them !

The great thing abou this channel is that he uploads continuously.
I aint got time to bleed
+OG thor odinson (trap god of asguard) You got time to duck?
The final minutes with the Rocky 4 music is surely one of the best moments in gaming.

Mark, the name o the group that produced the soundtrack is Power Glove. The OST is on itunes btw.
I LOVED that show. More than Star Trek at the time. Even though I was barely a kid, I could feel the quality. It was my first big love.
This is what modern expansions should be. Not just extra levels or some part of the game they ripped out to shamelessly profit from. Not DLC requiring the original game. Michael Beihn voices in the game, that's AWESOME!!!!

Not sure if anyone said this, but Mark, the music was made by Power Glove. With the space.
I totally dug the references to 80's films in general, this is the best game yet!!!!
Also, the hidden tidbits almost always provide a laugh, which also offers more incentive to strive for 100% completion than any other recent game has offered.
The soundtrack from Blood Dragon was made by "Power Glove". very nice futuristic, yet oldschool electronic music. I like it :)
I love CGR reviews. They're so fair.
Not a 80s kid as I was born in 93 but I enjoyed the demo. And for the price it seems worth it even if you don't quite catch all the references
power glove is the producer of the tracks featured in the game !
Becauset it's still the base FC3 game just with small alterations, it's like a total conversion mod but it's like a commercial one from back in the day like Malice for Quake.
I would love full blown version of this game, like the size of Far Cry 3! That would be great!
"The grenades also respond to the code phrase 'eat this'." (hears explosions) One of the best parts, I almost didn't believe it when I heard it.
From the first time this game was announce on April 1st I wanted it. Just downloaded and started playing it. Its even better than I hope!!!!

Want to see more of this game in the future!!!!
When a game has flamethrowers, massive amount of destruction, you know it's a perfect mix for Mark.
powerglove: hunters favourite track from this game SO GOOD!
I like the ways how you can approach in this game, stealthy or go absolute berserk, as I like to do with the shotgun. Also like the fact that fall damage doesn't exist in this game and that you have infinite run. Fun game, cheesy story, but way too short
I loved FC3 so I knew I would love this, but I failed to understand the extent to which I would love it until I picked it up.
I liked Part Deux, but the first Hot Shots wins thanks to the absolute genius of Lloyd Bridges. He was in Part Deux too, but didn't really bring it.
This game thew far cry 3 out of the helicopter with a noose round it's neck like in scarface and than sent it into the dinosaur age with a predator bomb strapped on its chest. In other words, great fucking game!

Artist: Power Glove
Soundtrack: FarCry 3 Blood Dragon
Finished the game last week. Just two achievements left. Best stand alone I've played.
Fun fact: the pistol, A.J.M., is named after Alex James Murphy A.K.A. Robocop, as it says in the weapon's dwscription.
I bought the soundtrack on Google play... Awesome! It is now my soundtrack when I play Ravenshield.
YAY! LvLCap reviewed this too! I love CGR :)
Havnt played the game, but when I heard the soundtrack for the first time I had two Questions.
1. Who is the artist?
2. Why arent they making the music for the rest of my video games?
Marc i love you're movie selection's.
This game is getting a physical release through LRG. I thought you would appreciate that. Also, great review! I have been enjoying your videos since I found your channel back in 2012.
Lord Karnage: The Game
As soon as this came out I was waiting for a review.
Been looking at this for a while waiting for it go on sale on steam, it's 25% off and i doubt it will get any lower than $11.24. My question is, is how long does it take to complete, and is it an open world like Farcry 3 or is it linear and will force me to do missions?
You need to have the Modem attachment and download all the Vextrex OS Updates beforehand. Should be like v3.2.01a
i dont own far cry3 but i know after playing blood dragon it wont be the same, its that good, short but really sweet. i hope they do continue this series also mark, hey, mark, mark 4, get it?
I could watch the 480p version right now, but CGR must be watched in HD.
this game is so awesome, just ridiculous goofy fun from beginning to end, massive hilarious neon carnage. loved this far more than FC3.
forget FC4, bring on BD2!!!
Hey, I was in PA the other day. Wish I would've gone to PAPA and chilled there for a while.
As soon as I played this, I thought, "Man, I bet Mark would love this!"
Keep doing your reviews, there good from an guy that love to play them.
Mark the soundtrack was composed by PowerGlove
one of many 80s synth revivalist. I can share you a
lot of artist like this one. It's in fact a new genre :D
yes! ive knew you would make a review about far cry 3 blood dragon it fits you perfectly!!!
Cobra assault cannon state of the art bang bang. I like it!
I hope they'll release this old school game for us old school gamers who like physical copies and don't do the whole internet thing on consoles.
It looks like it was custom made for us yet we're the only ones who can't get hold of it...
the fact that they got kyle reese makes it awesome!
LOVE THIS GAME! BETTER THAN FARCRY 3 IMO! SO GLAD MARK REVIEWED THIS!!!!
and the option to reset garrisons. its so hard to find enemies after beating it and liberating all garrisons
is the robotic hand an army of darkness reference?
The soundtrack in this game is actually brilliant.
Classic game room is so awesome
this game is so perfect im surprised it exists, its a perfect blend of stealth and action, and both are equaly rewarding..waiting for a sequel :3
i was waiting for mark to review this haha this was made for him.
I knew this game had "Classic Game Room" written all over it, it really is like someone made a game specifically for this guy.
awesome weapons, awesome soundtrack everything modern fps are missing
spike still has the vga's. i thought it had been discredited and mocked so baddly that they would have given up by now, but i guess not. gotta make those millions. either way, hopefully blood dragon, or something like it will be the next full farcry release. that.......would be amazing....
Pretty entertaining review there, Mark. :3
Absolutely checking those out! Thank you!
I love this intro.I think its much better
Met Biehn at Bournemouth Comic Con, and he didn't give off the best impression. Bit disappointing really, but sat through the end of his talk and had a picture with him.
Did the guy just flick the bird @ 1.03?, lol.
Never played any of these games, or Call of Duty, am I missing out?
Great review as always!
missing out alot tbh
Skip Call of Duty. Go with Blood Dragon, the new Shadow Warrior, the old Shadow Warrior, BulletStorm, Painkiller, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Halo, Borderlands 2...
Just stay as far away from Modern Military Shooter games as possible.
The developers of this stand-alone game did say the are sure of making a squeal because of how good this game did.
The 80ness of this addon is too damn high! :P
Michael Biehn is in the newest Mandalorian, but....
