      Might have to just pull the trigger on a (Revolt advance 2) what tires you recommend for gravel? I don't like stock tires it comes with.

      I would definitely lean towards 40s to start and don't focus on heavy tread. I'd look at the WTB Ramblers or something similar.

    Thank you! Since discovering the GBC, I've been mapping weeks of adventures. Pacifico and this one are now in ink on my calendar. I'm building up to and exploring a gravel century that starts in Pasadena. I think it has to have Pacifico on it. Much to learn this summer, but much easier with your videos. I'd seen all of the miles on the maps, but I'm miles ahead for your efforts. Thanks.

    There's a few good options in the Gleason area for gravel bikes- BPL Rd., Moody Canyon, and Beartrap Canyon are all rideable and give a lot of shorter loop options.

    Hi guys. Thx for the ride review. Question, if needed is there a spot to refill water bottles along this route? Thx.

    • @GravelBikeCalifornia
      @GravelBikeCalifornia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. At almost the halfway point, after doing the climb up Angeles Forest Highway, instead of making a right turn up Mt Gleason Road, make a left. You'll climb for a couple of minutes and see a fire station, but go past into the parking lot. The fountain is by the outhouse.

    Tried this ride in the first week of January on a tip from someone at my LBS where I live in Santa Clarita. I reached the Mill Creek Summit and turned onto Mt. Gleason Rd. and to my surprise the road was buried in a foot of snow. After hiking with my bike for a mile or so, I realized it was not getting any better, so I had to make the difficult decision to turn back or risk getting stuck on the top of the mtn. Is this typical fir this time of year and any idea when it might be rideable? Seems like an epic ride and can’t wait to try this again. Might even take the Santa Clara truck trail all the way back to Sand Canyon!

      Snow is more likely than not this time of year, but if there is no more snowfall in a couple of weeks, it might be gone. I try to check instagram to see if there are any recent pics before I go into the upper elevations.

    What time of day were you riding during this video? The current heatwave in LA means I've had to begin rides around 5am.

    • @GravelBikeCalifornia
      @GravelBikeCalifornia  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was that one weekend in June where temps were really low and we took advantage of the weather. Normally, I probably would have stopped off at Mill Creek for more water.

    • @GravelBikeCalifornia

      There is a parking lot at the start, but it is paid, but there are plenty of spots on the road where we parked.

      @@GravelBikeCalifornia Thank you for so much for the reply. I’m looking to park closer to the closed trails. You started in downtown Goleta. I love your channel and would like to try more of your routes. For example I rode Mt Lukin last week but parked across the street from the ranger station. I would love it I you could point out closer parking if there is any for those like me that drive to the trailhead. Thanks for all your great videos.

      @@GravelBikeCalifornia Sorry. Yes, I’ve watched a lot of your videos today and forgot where I was commenting. I meant the Refugio ride. Is there somewhere to park closer to the trails. It would be great to know this info for any of the future rides that you feature. I am enjoying your videos of the local gravel rides.

      @@GravelBikeCalifornia Thanks for that. I have another question for ya. For most of these rides that you're posting what is the approach like to get to the beginning of the path? Mostly driving and paying for some type of parking and riding off or?

    • @GravelBikeCalifornia
      @GravelBikeCalifornia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@0RANGOTANG On this particular ride, there's a small self pay ($5 forest permit) lot there, but a lot of people parked right off of these roads. Because I'm trying to cover a variety of areas, I'm driving to most, but typically the rides I post are typically 40-50 miles, so you can tack on extra distance / ride from home if you're able.
