Here I'll be going over the basic procedure for replacing an Inlet NOX sensor in an EPA10 Detroit Diesel 1-Box. It's not much different for GHG14, GHG17 or even other makes and models besides where things are mounted.

I tried heat and a big pipe wrench first then found your video. Mine are on a 2012 sprinter van. Dealer told me they were original and were definitely bad. And they have had a few updates to the part numbers. Anyway I cut tops off sensors with a cut off wheel. Saws all went thru two new blades and still had some to go. So once tops were off the 6 point socket and a cheater bar removed them without many bad words. Back sensor was stuck bad I’m thinking because of the def being injected just upstream of it. Raising exhaust temp??? So off to dealer to have them paired. Thanks for the help. 👍👍👍

Here’s a tip, apply a thin coat of anti seize on the sensor thread only, make sure it doesn’t get on the sensor bulb/ end, it will be way easier to come off next time

How can you remove the bolt/nut when it breaks? Can the debris that falls inside the box damage the box?

I mean difference from outlet and inlet nox sensor. Because they look the same. How to tell which one is which so you don't open the wrong one.
They have different part numbers. That's the first thing you should be checking. Besides that, Detroit's use different color wire wraps on each. On a 1 Box setup, they're also different lengths (Outlet is longer).

The socket is probably most commonly referred to as an oxygen sensor socket. 7/8ths or 22mm will work.
You also need to reprogram .Thank you
How do you know which sensor is located where?
The location of the inlet sensor is shown in the video.

Do you need computer to reset or cancel the code? Can I just disconnect the batteries?
Disconnecting batteries will not clear fault codes. Some sort of Diagnostic scan tool or software can be used. Every fault code has conditions that must be met for it's monitor to run. Once they're met, it either passes or fails. If it passes, the code will go inactive (This doesn't mean the MIL will immediately go out.)

How would you know the nox in sensor is not working properly...
There are NOX sensor specific codes that can come up. One that is shown in the video (SPN3216 FMI3) is usually a sure sign that the sensor has failed. Other times, a poorly performing NOX sensor can be the cause of other codes (NOX Conversion Efficiency Low, etc). In all cases, it starts with an engine or MIL light. Read the codes and troubleshoot from there.
TheDieseler Thanks for replying back.... I have cold 3216 fmi21 . Would it for any chance the exhaust have a nasty smell because mine does and it shows inlet nox sensor in the dash and a yellow engine light...
Alfredo Andrade If I remember correctly, that code indicates the Inlet NOX reading has drifted at low temperatures. Simple things you can check are leaks around any charge air or EGR piping. A leaking charge air cooler or any exhaust leak. Make sure there are no other active codes. Especially EGR related. That is about the limit of what can be done without diagnostic software. It could be anything from a required MCM software update, to a failing NOX inlet sensor, to a failing injector.
TheDieseler I really appreciate your help.. My mechanic told me that my truck needs a computer updates and maybe the inlet nox sensor too..
A way to check if the nox sensors are working properly , is to run a low temp atd with the def dosed electrical connector unplugged. And view the log file and see if they read close to each other In the last 15 mins of the test.

Maybe you have a answer for code eec 61 4364 18 I been to the dealer and to a couple other shops they put the computer they get all the read out and say the famous word at the moment nothing is failing base on the tools we have
