I was born the same day this race was run, and the first full race I remember watching was the 2001 Daytona 500. Seeing Dale Earnhardt's post-race interview choked me up. He was happy for Michael, getting his first win. Fast forward a few years, and he would give Michael a ride on his own new racing team. It would turn out to be a Daytona 500 winning team, but sadly Dale didn't have time to celebrate it, although I know Dale knew Mikey finally got his first points win in the Great American Race.
No comparison to the goofy racing they call Nascar today. They always had guys on TNN that knew what they where talking about. Sure do miss those days. Drivers that actually raced each other!!! without crying like a baby.
I was setting over off turn two and got a birds eye view of the last lead change. Was sick for Dale , Happy for Mikey!!👊 PS: when Bobby Labonte got loose in the banking, you could literally smell 💩 each time he passed by us..
The beginning is so sweet with Dale and Darrell🥺
What I imagined they would have been in retirement. Damn February 18th...
@@Ghostmotorfinger absolutely heart shattering💔

NASCAR was so great then! Not now!
If I could go back to being a kid again, I would literally just watch these races again lol
First actual win of Michael Waltrip when Dale Sr. was alive.
1:39:48 "Darrell Wallace in the two." Bubba Wallace somehow running in the All Star race at the ripe age of two and a half years old.
He never said junior, so it's Bubba's dad. Still a funny coincidence lmao

You gotta give it to ray evernham, it was gracious of him to give the fans so much info especially when they were the ones to beat.
I dont think ive seen so many people happy to see someone else win
DW and Dale Sr would have been legendary together as FOX broadcasters....what could have been. 😔
Michael Waltrip becomes the 1st driver from the Open to win the All-Star race
Handsome Harry's last hurrah in a Cup car
That was 2 years prior
I stand corrected harry is in this race....I didn't remember this
Morgan Shepherd won the 1993 Atlanta spring race with the same racecar that won the race here.
I was happy Michael Waltrip won this race and his first race 😊 I love Michael Waltrip 💗 I'm Michael's biggest fan ❤️
That bantering at the beginning was cute.

59:33 That Starting lineup
12TH ANNUAL
6:33 Unfortunately, not many people actually place their right hands on top of their hearts when singing the national anthem at a sporting event
Don’t tread on me
