Yunus was the angel of death. The diary had the deeds or names of people next in line for death and he was there when they died. The girl died and he was in the room, Anjum died and he was outside the car. Before Anjum died, he was right behind him bcz Anjum was up next. And he wasn't writing songs, he was writing the names of people next to die.

Yunus's mom died when he was a young kid. He got the news while he was in school, giving an exam. That's why he used the word "imtehaan", which in this case, in my opinion, he's referring to the exam he was giving when he found out the news about his mother's death.
