This is THE best recipe I’ve ever used - my husband craves this specific recipe every time. Once in a while, I will brown the butter for an extra kick.
Just made these for my son and I down the road in Livingston, MT! Thank you for the tips! love that I googled high altitude cookies and found a Montana Momma like myself!
I’m at almost 6k ft and chocolate chip cookies have been the only thing I’ve had issues with! It’s been so frustrating but this is so helpful! Thank you!!!
The trick to boiling eggs at any altitude is, if they are fresh bring your water to a boil first. Then lower eggs in when removing from water place immediately into ice with a little water until cool. Works perfectly, even with eggs straight from your chickens. If the eggs are older you can skip boiling the water 1st, I put salt in the water also.
This recipe is like the one on Nestles chocolate chip package. I'm above 5000 ft and I have found when I chill my dough before baking the cookies spreads more. When the butter is too soft the cookies spread. I bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes.
Thanks for the insight! Yes, this is adapted from the Nestle's package. Works like a charm for me every time. Glad to hear you have your cookie recipe fine-tuned for high-altitude.
This is the same recipe for high altitude on the back of the chip package ( usually found under the flap on the back of the bag under the rest of the directions). The only thing you did different was chill your dough. SMH
Hey John, sorry the first try fell flat. Did you thoroughly chill the dough? What elevation are you at? Try decreasing the temp and increasing the cook time. We are right at 5000ft. If you are significantly higher altitude, you will have to find the "sweet spot" in oven temp and cook time. Keep a close eye on the cookies that they do not over cook and "fall flat".
