I think policing is just more than a job. Police officers should attend the police academies and learn the integral elements of policing and public relationships and safety.
Police officers should have basic knowledge and training in relating with the people they wish to police, and to also understand the rights of citizens in order not to infringe upon them during the course of carrying out their duties.
So Amotekun operatives cannot simply be converted to police officers.

Police are going to be harder to abuse in their own communities. It is easier to get give orders to someone from Abeokuta to misbehave with his gun in Lokoja than you it would be in Abeokuta. These are their people, their neighbourhoods, and very importantly they are far more likely to know him or her.

Numbers is not our biggest problem please it is the untrained thugs in uniform who know nothing about the laws they are supposed to enforce that is our problem

If our state and Private universities can effectively compete with our federal universities why can't our geographical regions or even state manage police training schools.
Abuse will reduce to the bearest minimum with improved service delivery
Community policing is the best for Nigeria if not why do we have vigilante groups doing the same job

Frankly, the example of universities is not good because our state universities are so bad a standard that being able to compete with them is no achievement. We should be looking at a world standard not a low Nigerian standard because after all it is the universities abroad that our students are striving to get to.
