    I don't care whether or not you have a capsule wardrobe, but I'd still enjoy regularly seeing your seasonal selections or combinations, outfits, new finds, and reviews of clothes and accessories. You give thorough and enjoyable reviews.

      Hi Claire, thank you so much for your comment - I was really nervous to put this video up as I hate disappointing people but as I said, I'd be happy to continue sharing seasonal 'wardrobe' lookbooks. Going to be filming my Spring one this weekend! :)

    I have been interested in capsule wardrobes for a while now but having followed some people who use a capsule wardrobe I can say they mostly spend more money than I do and have more stuff than I do. :D In the name of "buy only necessities". Then you can buy more expensive stuff. Cause it's necessary. Most of these people are driven towards a "perfect wardrobe" idea so they will constantly take out some pieces cause they are not perfect enough and buy "more perfect" things cause they realize it fits their "style" and "personalities" more. So they shop just as much as they did before. Originally a capsule wardrobe is a lovely idea but I find it's another trend coming from rich countries. If you live in a let's say financially modest part of Eastern Europe like me, you simply won't have money to buy more clothes. So by definition, you have a capsule wardrobe without even trying too much or spend unnecessary amounts of money. I just realized I probably always had a capsule wardrobe without even knowing. :D I don't really have to hold myself back from buying another pair of boots for the winter cause I just don't have the money for it. Yeah I have two university degrees and have been working for some years now. Not to mention, in many parts of the world people don't have the luxury to "play with their outfits" cause they are happy if they don't freeze to death in wintertime. I am not hating btw I am just collecting my thoughts on the capsule wardrobe idea. Previously I watched a video of a girl completely "remastering" her "capsule" wardrobe and that's how I got here.. Probably I should have written this to her, sorry.

      I think any capsule wardrobe where that person is buying a HEAP of stuff at the start of the new season is going to be like that - I chose to just be measured with my purchases and buy things as I saw (and loved) them. It might have meant that my capsule wasn't complete at the start, or that I'd have to wait a couple months to wear something but I found that this was the best approach. Complete;y agree with all of your comments though and great to have a discussion about this.

      Miyankochan I very much have the same thoughts on this; it seems to be a trend for wealthy women in Western countries, mostly white women driven by the need to have perfect Pinterest lives. I can't afford that and can't live up to that expectation anyway.

    Let's consider capsule wardrobes as a rehab for fashionistas and compulsive buyers then :D maybe it is not viable (at least for those who love fashion), but it does change your shopping habits. I have never been through the process myself (was too extreme for me), but just watching you and other youtubers inspired me to declutter a lot, shop differently and find my style. I hope you are still making videos because I enjoy them a lot. Love. Dalal

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Haha yes it definitely was like a rehab for me of sorts! It scares me when I think about how much I used to shop and Luke has commented that I'm a lot smarter with my purchases these days so it's good to get that reinforced. I won't stop making videos, don't worry about that! love xxx

    Thanks for your honesty. I do have a capsule wardrobe but live in a climate where summer can happen in winter too. My solution has been to have 4 capsule wardrobes but have them all in the same closet but sectioned out separately. This works best for my lifestyle. I am a minimalist and don't like the idea of "storage.". I stick with the number of items I need, not what others say I should have.

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thank you! Yeah that makes it difficult I think - I don't like storing things either, I like to be able to see what I have (so that I can make use of it!)

    It all just goes down to if it's making you happy at the end of the day. I appreciate your honesty, and although people do find joy in having a capsule wardrobe, there are people like you out there, that loves having an abundant collection of the clothes that they truly love and have curated over time. Please do more seasonal wardrobe styling videos, thank you.

    I like your channel not because you only have 25 items in your closet at all times but because you have quality key pieces that are easy to style and will remain timeless. So it's totally okay for me that you're no longer doing capsule wardrobe, and I'm sure a lot of people feel the same :)

    I consider my wardrobe capsule-ish. Things flow well together but I love to have a few unique pieces that are not so "plain" and I don't go by a #. I just try not to over purchase.

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I think that's the most important thing to do :)

    • @Petra44YT
      @Petra44YT 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Me too. And I think the numbers recommended are too small. If you want to wash once per week, you need 7 shirts, if you want to wash every other week, 14 shirts. So that gets the number up.

    • @Canadian97467
      @Canadian97467 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Very true, Petra44YT! When raising a family or living with a partner, the hamper gets filled faster. When living alone, it can take two weeks to have enough in the hamper to warrant a few washes (color-separated washes are a must), so the single white shirt and single pair of white pants (or red items) are going to be out of the possible options very fast. What to wear for the rest of the 2 weeks?
      Moreover, randomly bought items don't necessarily fit in length with skirt A or B (their respective lengths must be right to attain the right proportions). Same thing with the collar on leather jackets. One type of collar doesn't necessarily look right with the shirt under it. I have 5 black leather jackets with different cuts, lengths (croped or mid-lenght), and collars to go with whatever shirt length/shirt collar I have under.
      Capsule wardrobes are a great start to build a wardrobe from scratch when starting in life, but what they are is a collection of basics that will serve as a base for later purchases.
      Hemlines change with the trends, and jean cuts as well, so an well fitting item that was out can be in again 5 years later. Capsule wardrobes don't really work for older women who would like to follow trends and remain modern, while avoiding giving perfectly good (and expensive) clothes to charity only to buy a similar item again after (what feels like) a short amount of time. That's what cedar closets are for.

  • @chooselove4all574

    My problem with capsule wardrobes is that from what I have seen on many channels on youtube, most people end up with black, white, and maybe 1 other color of clothes. I wear black skirts but the rest of what I have is mostly bright colors. I do have different colorful tops that coordinate with the same black skirts or trousers to keep things simple, but I dislike the severe look of most of the capsule wardrobes. Also I wear a size 4 but when I am on my period I bloat up to a size 6 in water weight, so I can't cut back to such a small amount of clothes.... and I no longer want to. Just keeping things simple and weeding out whatever you don't really wear is enough for me.

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah that's been a common comment when discussing capsules with others - I've always tried to incorporate some other element of colour (at least two) but I think it's just safe and easy to do grey white and black. If you haven't seen my recent Spring wardrobe lookbook then I'd suggest you take a watch - there's SO much colour in there! :)

      I have shades of black (Greys) and warm reds(peach). Except for that I include pale blues in denims and a bit of olive green which is more on the nuetral side. So the only colour left is orange which I hate hate hate. There used to be only one orange in my closet which I never weared.. so I guess that was never a problem with me.

    As you know, I'm not a capsule person, as I prefer access to whatever I feel like wearing on a given day. My reasoning has always been the same as your current thinking, in so much as it doesn't make sense to me to have beautiful clothes that you don't 'allow' yourself to wear. Capsule wardrobes probably make more sense to me if you are building a wardrobe, not when you have already built one. I think I'll always enjoy and follow your channel Jamie, whatever format you choose to give us. Hoping the wedding planning is coming together nicely.... not long now. Regards, Deb.

    That's the reason why I never fully had a capsule wardrobe. I like the idea of having a really put together wardrobe in which I love everything, but the rigidity of the certain types and number of pieces every season has held me back. I still would love to see fashion videos from you :)

  • @AudreyCoyne
    @AudreyCoyne 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Loved this video and I'm looking forward to seeing where the new direction takes you :) I take a similar approach to dressing in the sense that while I do have a "Capsule" each season of about 30 items, this serves only as a spring board and does not include accessories, shoes, blazers or outerwear. By eliminating these pieces from my core selection I am able to have more versatility with my pieces and stretch them across all four seasons. This has also helped me eliminate the stress often associated with only being able to use a few items for an entire season. Ultimately this has resulted in a win, win that has allowed me to still have fun with my clothes while spending less time worrying about what to wear and more time living. xx Audrey

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Audrey, I think really what I want to do is experiment in a way that I didn't when I was in my early 20s, as my style was all over the place and I didn't really think about how or whether things suited me. But yeah, I think also I've just really been able to narrow down my favourites and I'm really quite happy with where I'm at with my wardrobe as a whole and have been loving enjoying everything as opposed to a small section of it! And the plus side is that after years of capsules, I've got my daily uniforms down pat! :)

    As they say on their website, capsule wardrobe doesn't always have to be 33 items. There can be 43, 53, 93. Capsule wardrobe is a project to make you to be aware of your purchases, style. No one has to keep something because it is a gift or an expensive piece. In my opinion, if you love all of your clothes and feel that they fit you great and you use it frequently, then it is ok to have 100 items.

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was more the rigidity of the structure for me - I'm loving wearing everything in my wardrobe now. While I might go back to the capsule in the future, right now it's not quite for me. Thank you so much for your comment! xx

    I dont have a capsual wardrobe, always wanted one but never gave it a real go. But what I learned from not only your videos about this topic is to research before shopping, define a style and colour palett, to ask yourself if a piece I buy will go with a lot of things in my wardrobe and quality over quantity, and going thru your closet on a regular basis and just clearing out. :)

    Where I live, the weather fluctuates way too much for me to stick to a capsule wardrobe. Some days it will feel like summer and the the next day (or later that night even) it will be freezing and feel like winter -.-". I don't really have a set style either and my wardrobe has about 40-45 pieces so it doesn't make sense for me to have a capsule wardrobe!

    Hi,I too have decided not to do the capsule wardrobe,mostly because I want to have all the clothes in my closet available to me. A great tip that I use to help me to get more wear out of all my clothes, is to mark a date on the calendar and for every piece of clothing item that I wear ,I turn the hangar around when I hang it back up. This lets me know at the end of 6 months or a year which clothes I always grab for,which clothes I don't grab for and it helps me to try and be creative with one's I see I haven't used. I definitely use more pieces this way! Thanks for sharing your opinion.

I think the takeaway from this experience is really just lessons thoughtful moderation, not perfection. I'll say one of the key elements from your channel that drew me was your lessons in conscious restraint (which I find is an angle sorely lacking in many lifestyle and beauty channels), so I'm glad to hear you're staying on that path even if capsule wardrobes isn't the answer for you. i've tried a capsule wardrobe for years but it really just isn't for me! I have two styles of dress, one that is more effeminate and one that's rather masculine. Unlike most 'minimalistic' wardrobes, both of my styles contrast in a way that can't really be integrated. I'm just gonna stick to having key items in a wardrobe of about 50 pieces (I'm going to try and bring it down but I'm okay with this number at the moment!)
    Brilliant video, would love to see more.

    Love hearing your thoughts on this! I'm still sticking with the capsule wardrobe and really loving it, but I think it's because I'm quite relaxed with the "rules" so in a way you could argue I'm not truly doing it "properly" - but it works for me. I have my "main pieces" of around 30 items, then I have others that are on the other side of my wardrobe that are a little more out there or special. They don't necessarily fit with the capsule so aren't necessarily day to day pieces but add a little bit of fun and something different when I need it! 😊
    Would still love to see look books from you! I love your style! Xx

    I still keep a capsule wardrobe just for inspiration so I know what key pieces I already have and don't need to buy. However, you have a really strong point when you said that you wore certain items over and over and it just lower its longevity. I think you are absolutely right and that reason alone makes me want to reconsider a capsule wardrobe.

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I tend to really invest in my wardrobe (for the most part) paired with some lower priced items, and I don't want those pieces I spent so much on to wear out super quickly if I can avoid it! I think it's best to do what works for you :)

  • @hherroyal05

    Thank you for being honest! Being honest about who you are, what your values are as an "influencer", means a lot to those of us who struggle with the whole capsule idea. When someone has a long-standing position that they are a minimalist, but yet constantly post about their brand-new gifted goodies, it is aggravating to say the least.

  • @citizenjoevotes
    @citizenjoevotes 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am in the same place. I learned so much from the exercise and I have kept my wardrobe "edited" rather than in "capsule" form. I love color, but now am very thoughtful about it. And, while I no longer count my pieces, I am aware of how full my closet is and rather than replace pieces right away (especially shoes), I wait to see if I something else will do instead thereby using what I have to it's fullest. You were my inspiration and I am curious to see how the changes you made will influence you moving forward.

    I don't know. I just started on my capsule and the thing I appreciate most is that it has helped me define my style, pushed me to have items that work together and also to be much more mindful of my purchases and what I already own. For those reasons alone it has been worth the thought and effort. I am retired now so the amount of clothing and type is a little different and that has made dressing a much bigger challenge. Casual chic wasn't as easy as I thought it would be when it's your almost everyday wear. For me it's been more about all those elements than the number of pieces I own. Please, just keep the great videos coming because your style guidance and tips have been very helpful to me. I really enjoy your channel.

      That's definitely the thing that drew me to the capsule wardrobe and why I stuck it out for close to two years. I gave it up a while back and while initially I had some trouble kind of finding my feet with my style, I'm in a groove now and wear so many items that I absolutely love - without worrying about the rules of a capsule wardrobe. I am doing the 10X10 Challenge at the moment though which is fun! :) And than you, you're too sweet xx

    I totally understand all your reasons for giving up doing a capsule wardrobe. I haven't been doing a capsule wardrobe for the past few weeks just because I have been trying to figure out what I want to take with me, anything else I want to let go of and I've just wanted to enjoy wearing whatever I want again. I have bought quite a few things over the past few months in preparation for the different climate and replacing things that were worn out like new black trousers, a comfy dress I can throw on to go to the beach etc. Getting dressed without a capsule does seem to take longer but it's nice to be able to mix things up and not leave things unworn for months or even a whole year when you love them.

      I think you're doing it the smart way, as if you're going to have the same things for three months you want to make sure you are happy with it too PLUS you can always pick up the odd thing when you get here. And definitely will still be keeping the lookbooks coming! :)

    What a beautiful skirt, I can see why you wanted it in your wardrobe. Also, thank you for talking about what many of us struggle with; it's so easy to want and buy new stuff instead of review what we already own. What a great honest confession. It's honest that you recognize that some of your purchases are emotional, which we call Retail Therapy, while Fashion Therapy is more concerned with building a self expressive wardrobe over andabundance of items.

    I've always thought the main objective of a capsule wardrobe was the functionality of it, and the idea of whittling down its size was secondary. I also thought of it as simply a starting point, not about a chosen number of garments; you could even include 3 different capsules in your total wardrobe. Whether or not my perspective matched the main shared reality, one might consider it before deciding against a capsule. Anyway, I had a great naturally evolved wardrobe 40 years ago and am just now planning my first capsule. I enjoyed your video.

    Thanks for sharing. The concept of the capsule wardrobe has its pros and cons. We do need to edit from time to time, however, fun is totally underestimated. It sounds like you have gained some better shopping habits while maintaining a more healthy attitude. Unfortunately, it seems that SOME people are being rather obsessed and going overboard with the concept of a capsule wardrobe. I think the old quote,"moderation in all things" is wise and don't forget to have some fun with your clothes, while maintaining a healthy attitude toward shopping. Basics are your important foundation. Then, don't be afraid to have some fun! Everyone is unique, so if you feel less stressed sticking to a capsule, and this makes you happy, go for it! Whatever works for you, life is too short to stress out about clothes!

    I knew that soon this would happen! I understand your decision perfectly. I started to follow because I needed a change in my wardrobe, and I really like your style. the idea of a capsule wardrobe seemed to be just what I needed to stop buying. I got rid of many things that were not used for years, or I did not like. my goal was to have a more minimalist style. but after more than a year, I realized it's not for me either. I like to have more options and more colors. I can say, however, that this experience helped me to stop spending money on clothes that I would not use. So far this year I bought only 2 pieces that really adored at first sight. Of course I hope to continue seeing your lookbooks! Greetings, Romi, from Buenos Aires

    I agree with you totally, I've always Incorporated the capsule wardrobe to some extent , but very careful of choosing minimal trendy items due to not wanting to be a slave to fashion & items going out of style too quickly. I try choosing colors that comliment my skin tone & my petite size. Over the years I have downsized my closet. I do feel less stressed about my selection and not overwhelmed over clutter and not so frivolous shopping any longer. After all , nothing is written in stone about fashion, it's OK to jump out of the box once in a while but to be more cautious . it does take years to perfect our taste and class in clothing selection.

It gives cohesiveness to my look but it doesn't work for me for number of reasons. i don't like living with so many rules and I travel with work a lot so I would need to run two capsules for different seasons at the same time. I’m very late, but I wouldn’t call myself a minimalist nor am I loud with bright colors and stuff. I def am a compulsive buyer, and love winter so layering and dark colors is what I love, but what helps me with that, is knowing my colors and patterns I wear without thinking that I gravitate towards naturally on spending. So I don’t feel the need to buy a lot (: I have always been drawn to darker colors and even though minimal colors are in and I adore the simplicity of it I still love my black, bright reds, dark greens, and maroons that aren’t so much I’m a “capsule” wardrobe. Knowing and seeing that I have that to go to maroon cardigan and dark green cardigan that stands out of my wardrobe basics makes me feel better about having my “to go tos” and more simple color pattern to my wardrobe and not feel the need to spend on a capsule wardrobe type of closet. (: I also work in an office so a lot of simple looks that I have I go for and tend to naturally buy and it works for me even with my bright red pumps and dark green hand bag and I consider it my capsule 🤗

    Like you I found actually putting together a capsule wardrobe tedious and just time consuming. And about half way through I was done. Also I hated not being able to wear certain items because they didn't fit my color story. However I wasn't as rigid with the rules and threw in a piece outside my capsule often.But after a couple of trials I finally found a system that works. I have a capsule wardrobe still of pieces that I can throw together quickly if I wake up late or if I need to change quickly from something like a work out. Then there's my closet that has more statement pieces that don't necessarily go with my capsule but I can wear regularly. It works fabulously for me.

      mademoiselle I think doing a capsule really helps you define your style. Even if you just do it for that reason, get what you need from it and move on and just apply some of the concepts of a capsule wardrobe, it's all a helpful learning experience :)

    • @irairod5160
      @irairod5160 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've taken an approach very similar to Kendall's. I keep a capsule of office-appropriate, mostly neutral pieces that mix and match so I can create outfits very quickly if I'm in a hurry or if I need to pack efficiently and lightly for work-related travel. In that "work" capsule, I also include a handful of carefully selected complimentary prints as well as a healthy amount of punchy accessories (necklaces, scarves, brightly-colored or patterned shoes) to enliven my combinations. Then, in a *different* section of my closet, I have what I call my "wow" pieces---shoes, dresses, and tops that do not blend as seamlessly with my core office wardrobe but bring me joy. Those are the clothes I turn to when I have the need or inspiration to create a "not business, all pleasure" look.
      I started creating capsule wardrobes when I realized how often I thought "I have nothing to wear" despite having an entire walking closet bursting at the seams. Through the exercise of editing my choices, I learned I was missing key, versatile, neutral items that would help me ground my statement pieces and my love for color. I slowly acquired those, while at the same time getting rid of everything that didn't work. My wardrobe is one-third of what it once was, but I never feel bored with it. I have quite a few prints and plenty of color pops (deep ruby, mallard green, royal blue, amethyst purple) to go with the black-indigo-gray-camel-white pieces that compose 75% of my closet...and every season I buy 2-3 "trendy" pieces and retire 1 or 2 that I've fallen out of love with. That helps me inject excitement into my tried-and-true collection. I also invest in having things tailored, if needed, so things fit me just right and look more luxe. So, in my experience, done with a "flexible" mind set, wardrobe capsules can be fabulously rewarding and creative.

    I have culled my wardrobe and I hardly ever shop. When I need new clothes I shop second hand or sew it myself. I feel that I am already doing enough environmentaly and ethically when it comes to clothes so that I don’t need to obsess over the actual number of items. So I have never actually done a capsule wardrobe even though I may be within range of the 30 items per season ( maybe even less) but I leave my seasonal items out all year and just layer them. I have a few dresses that are summer only but they are still going to need to be hung up so I just leave them in the closet. Sounds legit?

    Hello! I found your channel while browsing for capsule wardrobes, and stayed because I love your sense of style and fashion. I would love to still see styling videos! As for capsule wardrobes, I don't have one myself but I learned a lot through blogs and videos on colour palettes, colour mix and match, styles/proportions I like on me, shopping with a list in mind, editing the wardrobe and learning to let go/donate... However I never counted pieces and stored away pieces not allowing myself to grab an appropriate seasonal piece. I find this approach a bit obsessive compulsive. Having a nicely edited wardrobe shouldn't be that time-consuming in my mind. Thanks for sharing your journey! xx

    I tried to start a capsule wardrobe a few times, but every time it seemed to become stressful to have so few clothes. I'd rather have just a little too much, to be able to lengthen the cycle between washes. I also found the capsule wardrobe too restricting, especially when the seasons change and you don't really know about the weather. Then again, it helped me find my style and colors, and I'm getting a lot stricter with what goes into my wardrobe now than just a year ago, trying to only harbor secondhand, vintage or ethically made clothing. And only buying something that I'm completely sure that I'll wear consistently for months

      It's hard, because so many designers don't share where stuff comes from - thank god for brands like Everlane and Grana. I try and buy a lot of second hand too - helps to reduce waste (in a small way!) xx

    Capsule wardrobes are a nice idea, but I can imagine it would put pressure on you to buy for each season

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I learnt so much from my experience! I found it didn't really put pressure on me... I never bought a whole heap of stuff at the beginning of a new season, I'd buy things occasionally in season as I saw stuff i liked. It's more the rigidty and restraint that got to me!!

    Haha I'm basically gettin into the capsule wardrobe-thing because I tend to shop to LITTLE. I need more clothes, and sorting out the very few pieces I have, will probably help me out getting more of the things that I really like and need more of.

      SwedishTourist I feel the same way! Im getting more into buying quality pieces than a whole closet full of clothes that will fall apart after a few wears. I'm gonna purge my closet and start a seasonal capsule wardrobe.

    I Think it's so strong of you to share this and to listen to your own feelings and go with them. I have recently let go of being a vegetarian (only for a bit) and it took a long time to take that step, but now - on the other side of the decision - I feel like it was the right thing to do. I really think it is good to be a vegetarian/vegan but for me it ended with to many rules to follow and feeling guilty when eating "wrong". To allow youself to let go of some Believes can be very good! Really enjoy your videos, capsule wardrobe or not :)

      Thanks you so much Emma! I had a similar thing happen when I went from eating veg/vegan to re-introducing meat after 7 years, but again, it was the right choice for me as due to health issues I'm so limited to what I can eat. Hope you enjoy my most recent Spring wardrobe video!! :) xx

    I don’t mind that you are giving up capsule wardrobes seeing as how I don’t have one myself! I agree it is hard to be very restricted when you love clothes. How about doing videos of ‘what I wore this week’. Or videos of the core pieces and the statement pieces that you are thinking of using for the coming season. Or ‘The Season Edit’ showing what you think the core pieces will be, what you are bringing in and what you are getting rid of! At the end of the day I just enjoy seeing people on youtube who have good style and look good in their clothes putting interesting outfits together!

      I definitely plan to do a couple what I wear in a week style videos (also for work too to give you guys an idea) though I have a spring lookbook coming up with my favourite spring items :) xx

    It's definitely not for everyone, I'm trying to minimize my wardrobe as well, but it won't t be small by any means, im just going to make sure o love what I pick and not impulse buy... btw, I love your top, I went onto the site and I see how really affordable the clothing is, in your opinion, is the quality good? 😊

      Sorry for the delay - this was my first order from Shein. The gingham top I wore in this video is great quality (I'm wearing it now!) and it's 100% cotton, but I had a couple of misses. You really need be careful with what you pick and I wouldn't buy any of the poly 'knit' sweaters. Hope that helps! x

    correct me if im wrong. i thought a capsule wardrobe was in a nutshell, the basics for maybe a certain season or function like say work??? ie: for winter a coat, hat a favorite scarf a pair of boots?? ive never heard anyone say that they only stuck to those certain items and only wore those items and never veird from them?? im quite confused as to her idea of a capsule wardrobe.

    I found your channel and learned a lot about capsule wordrobe. I realized that I was doing something wrong because I have so many clothes that work as an individual but could not be combined with anything because they are crazy colourful and fun. I found neutrals. I started to think how could I start combining these crazy patterns with something so I don't have to buy contantly new things because it seems I don't have nothing to wear. I bought few neutrals that go super well with my colourful dresses, skirts and shirts and realized how this combining thing really works. But I also realized that every capsule woredrobe video I watched spoke only about neutrals and basics. And then I realized that it is not for me. I love crazy prints, colours and fun things. I just couldn't have a closet that does not have them and everything is basic and plain. Even though I think about my purcheses a lot more now and have neutrals and buy neutrals too, I'm so glad you come to the same conclusion as me. I sooo get you! I can't wait untill someone else has the courage to say that capsules usually aren't fun! :D And I watch your videos because I love your style and the way you express yourself, so keep doing these and lookbooks aswell. You're fab!

      @mademoisellejaime  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha well my capsule was fun to begin with but restraining yourself when it doesn't feel natural can be a little difficult of course, but I've gotten so much out of the process that I'm really glad I did it. I used to wear a LOT of colour before really editing my wardrobe down but it was really haphazard so I'm looking forward to incorporating it in a way that supports and complements my existing wardrobe (rather than at random). And sometimes - you gotta try things out to figure out if it's for you or not x

    From what I understand the capsule wardrobe is a learning process to break away from the fast fashion trends. I have recently began to try building capsule wardrobes for this purpose but to me it doesn't seem like a long term thing, I just want to find my style so the clothes in my wardrobe are actually things I want to wear

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For me it was never going to be a forever thing, but I know a lot of people who want to do that - which is great - but wasn't for me. It helped me in SO many ways though; I definitely feel like I have a much better understanding of my wardrobe and pairing things together etc!

    I have been living the capsule wardrobe since childhood. Though my family was very poor, we used to buy in 2nd hand shops or just receive clothing from relatives that had to last but my mom always had a good taste, she's the artist and knew what looks good on us, even if we wore charity. Once I graduated, started working, with the first income came the compulsive shopping. And how I regret it now because I ended up spending much more on sales and items from fast fashion shops that are of poor quality. I still own some clothing from my youth that flatter my body type and my skin color but I had to throw the fast fashion items because they got threadbare after just several washes. 100 dollars or euros for a pair of jeans or a blouse sound expensive but when you find the perfect piece and seams are well made you will see the greatness with time.. Also, with so many styles and trends seen on streets, nobody looks out of place, no matter what they wear. I really encourage to research types of clothing for your body type and colors to match your the best. Once you've done your homework, you will automatically be able to see what product will make you look amazing and what is not for you, even if it is trendy that month. I am not saying that fast trend do not have really flattering items but I was disappointed more often how fast those items age or been appalled by how many items looks creased, dated or washed out still on the hangers.

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel like I can relate to some extent - I grew up with just my mum so we were on a single income, and my grandmother used to make a lot of my clothing as it was cheaper to do so than to buy new. I started working at 14 and would use a lot of my income to buy myself clothing - and of course that was all I spent my money on (and I'd buy a LOT). Now, I try and be more measured and just buy things that are (mostly) higher quality but that fit well. It's definitely a good feeling and I love knowing that the items I have invested a little more in will last me a long time! x

      thanks so much for a reply! I forgot to say that my mom and grandmom can sew and I wore home made clothing too. Good thing was at that time it was kind of cool to show off what your granny made. Nowadays, sadly, it is something shunned. I would love to make my own clothing too.

    I think trying to have a capsule wardrobe can help you de clutter junk clothes ! You reconsider what suits you, what s in your closet for many years but you have never worn it, it helps you buy more mix and match clothes and generally it helps you become more minimalist which is good! The structured wardrobe helps me be more self controlled in purchases and I now think twice before buying one piece out of enthusiasm. Even if you decide to quit capsule wardrobe it still helped get rid of many worthless things.
