Establishment of 3.0 MV Particle Accelerator Based Interdisciplinary Centre
Department has taken a bold initiative under the leadership of honorable vice chancellor,
Dr. Lakshman Chaturvedi, to establish a 3 MV high current pelletron accelerator facility. This
facility will make us to stand in the national science picture as one of the emerging research
department of the country. The coming up facility will provide opportunities to carry out
interdisciplinary research work in various branches of science.
A particle accelerator is a sophisticated device used to propel charged particles, such as electrons or protons, to high speeds, often close to the speed of light. By using electric fields to accelerate the particles and magnetic fields to direct and focus them, particle accelerators enable scientists to investigate the fundamental properties of matter and the universe.
Types of Particle Accelerators
1. Linear Accelerators (Linacs): Accelerate particles in a straight line using a series of oscillating electric potentials.
2. Cyclotrons: Use a magnetic field to bend particle paths into a spiral, allowing particles to gain energy with each pass through an accelerating voltage.
3. Synchrotrons: Employ a ring-shaped structure where particles travel in a circular path, continuously gaining energy through synchronized electric fields and maintaining their path with magnetic fields.
