      The epoxy is very expensive compared to 8.00 in pennies.

      David Marler yeah this is great, and you don't have to use pennies, you can put in anything you want. I'm going to do this but put something in unique for me. Which is dope. And a lot cooler then just buying something.

    I don't understand peoples hate towards you offering a free experience, with some real hit and misses of doing something for the first time. I thought you presented it real genuinely. Also, big plus for giving it a go, where you would have had a bit of pressure on yourself if it all went wrong (and having to sort out your benchtop). Checked out your website and you have some detailed tips and building a great community of RV'ers. Well done.

    Late to the party as usual for this old bloke from Down Under, only recently chanced upon your RV videos, and while I’ve watched a lot, started from the oldest so I’m still a year behind, I’m finding each video to be so different, but still with the great continuity of enthusiasm and joy. Pippi you’re like a sponge, each time you’re learning how to DIY while you’re educating the audience. You certainly are an inspiration, Thank You for your kindness in doing this, Bless You.

    I'm so glad I came across your video's. I've been looking for real tutorials not done by RV dealers on how to do many things. I have a small 10 ft. camper, a 27 ft camper and a motorhome that all need so much work. I think I'll start with the floor and work my way up! Loved your flooring video and this counter top is too cute...looks amazing...well done. I'll post my paper bag floor in my 10' camper when it's done!

    Love your video - I did a bathroom counter using stones, jewels, and small bangles - It came out nice, but I allowed the resin to flow over the edge and smoothed it out which made it one unit - After it dried I just trimmed off the underneath part and sanded - I love working with this stuff and will do my kitchen next, but that will be a BIG job

      + Skip Hedgepath. I don't agree with you at all. First of all, I don't think she is looking to sell, but second, if she does why would she be unable? She would just need to find a buyer who either likes what she has done or who wants to rip it out and put their own person touch on it. You Tube is full of people who have done that.

    • @a1930ford
      @a1930ford 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      +Mary Anne Brown I believe your misreading what Skip was intending to say. The endearing touches will make it hard to let it go is more likely what he was trying to convey. I have many items which would fall into the same category if I eventually decided to sell them. I'd have such a hard time in parting with them, that I could never sell them, even if I wanted to. I may be incorrect, but that was how I viewed Skip's comment, myself.

    This is amazing and very creative!! I remember a friend who had a bar called the Silver dollar and this is kind of what they did but with silver dollars at the bar, it was 1000s of silver dollars. It was basically the same technique, but for an RV? This is so cool!!!

    I've been enjoying and learning from your videos. Thank you so much! I have a few questions about your penny/epoxy sink surround and your cd table top. They are both lovely and I am inspired to try something similar. Now that more than a year has passed, has the epoxy yellowed much? Is the surface still practical and easy to clean around the sink and stove? Has water been a problem, leaks, etc,... around the faucet?

  • @czieber1454
    @czieber1454 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am wanting to epoxy my RV countertops. Did the tape come off easily after 2days between stove and counter? I’ve been told need to remove tape ASAP with epoxy. I’m planning on painting and don’t want to use “topcoats” (as they chip and have issues with water marks). Yours turned out beautifully and seemed to be somewhat an easy solution for not having to take stove out!

    More fun to hear you describe what is going on with the project. I did watch another fellow do a table top and sides. The edges were rounded and the Epoxy flowed over the open edges thinly. He used a torch on the surface bubbles and scooped off the uneven lower edge of side similar to what you did to the covered edges on your nice looking project. Maybe the bathroom next time, nice job.

    Blowing thru a straw works better , but a scrapbooking heat gun used very gently and a distance away will work really well.I used to make charms this way.They look store bought and I Hated any bubbles or would throw them away.You can use a coupon and get the heatgun at michaels.Dont use a regular heat gun or a hair dryer.and try to do it in sections.Wear gloves, have ventilation and put on a mask.Loved this video.Their is a long drying time , really it takes a couple weeks to cure really hard, well in the Midwest and making metal charms it did.Love your videos, two in and I am hooked lol..

    Very nice job Pippi. Just a thought would a hair dryer on hot, low speed help with the bubbles? I had another thought on edges in general. If you had a small metal brake from say Harbor Freight, you could bend a bunch of pennies to cover the top front edge of the counter top. You could even wrap the lower front edge with the bent penny to go under the front edge finishing it off. Turn the bent penny the other direction on the back edge where the counter top & wall meet to begin a back splash. Keep up the good work.

    • @PippiPeterson
      @PippiPeterson  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +James Wiskus Yes a hair dryer would probably be easier but watch out with the cord. You could
      easily get fancy with the edges.

    great video. One thing I would do is if you're cutting pennies with Aviation Snips I would use safety glasses to protect your eyes and cut the pennies in a small bag grocery bag ziplock bag any type of enclosure that keeps the penny from flying and possibly causing injury.

  • @a1930ford
    @a1930ford 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Epoxy as this is essentially self-leveling, but if your use tape and there is no drop off area at the meeting points to the tape and counter, then expect to see points or ridges where the epoxy curls upward instead of having a watershed effect or curved edges. Trimming the edges when the epoxy is dry is something I have not seen, other than to remove drips or excess flow that usually ends beneath the edge of a counter. When you trimmed down the peaks, did it show in the epoxy finish that was left on the counter at the edge? I wasn't for sure if it would end up showing or not. I am doubtful you could sand the edges smooth and it not show sanding marks in the epoxy, but I have not tried such. How did your edges look once you trimmed them? Could you easily tell that they had been trimmed down?

    • @PippiPeterson
      @PippiPeterson  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +a1930ford No, they look great, I didn't trim too far down just to reduce the amount of cut surface.

    Great jog Pippi! It is obvious that you did a lot of research before starting. I hot gun works great for getting out the bubbles. Also, you can take course sand paper to "break" the sharp edges and then sand that will really fine (at least 600 grit) and it will match the top. Then put on a good coat of car wax. But either way I commend you for taking the plunge!

    Hi there.
    Have You ever think about off the grid container house laid on long trailer extended alongside when parked. Just when U travelling is compact road size but when U're up is extendable and makes nearly three of size. How would U organize this, I know i am asking correct person in correct time. If U do not mind to answer, please do so.
    Best Regards,
    Karl Kuleta.

      +Karol Kuleta I'm extremely interested in shipping container homes, if this is what you're talking about. Though they might be a little too heave to go on trailers...

    Very good video. I love your positive attitude. And cute too!
    This idea can be carried over to just about anything. I was thinking about setting some of my copper tooling in epoxy like that.

    When you said you were going to cover with pennies I thought that is going to be silly looking, but it turned out pretty awesome. really like the shiny look.also you did good by not painting base black. Great video thanks

    you might of also been able to use high-grit sandpaper to take those edges off? you know, for those that might be worried about slipping and gouging the surface (like me)

    Great vid! I do have one suggestion though. You describe the process of removing the bubbles and pouring and so on, but you didn't show any of it. I saw that you filmed yourself blowing at first with that tripod, but didn't include any of that footage.
    Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I've been wanting to try something like this for a while now and your video will surely help!

    Love it!!! Question: Why can't you just put pennies on top of laminate?

    • @PippiPeterson
      @PippiPeterson  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ottb The laminate was already peeling off. I'd have had to reglue and apply the laminate. It also had chips in it that would have needed repair and the smooth urface may have not adhered well with the epoxy on top.

    Pippi you cracked me up when you said you epoxied a bug to your counter top! On the positive side, you can always claim to have an original one-of-a-kind counter top! I was concerned you might have seams showing where one batch meets another, but it looks great! You did a fantastic job!!!
