We chose this Cantata to be played while we signed the register to confirm our marriage in the Cathedral, Auckland....it making the moment more special !

gentle, melodious performance - but quiet and restful. Compare that with Ms Diane Bish who bashed away with a lot of gusto.Methinks something in the middle would give me maximum pleasure.
I also heard Diane Bish's version first which made this one seem a bit slow since I heard it second. If only we could erase our memory while listening to music, allowing us to compare the two objectively...

How about we see music performances as individually a photo of the same "thing" but taken from a different angle etc. That might help us to see things objectively (?!)
I suspect a lot of the difference is down to the personalities of the performers. Diane Bish never misses the chance to show off and the Ruffatti at Coral Ridge just encourages her! My personal favourite version of this overplayed work is by Olivier Penin who does steer a middle course: th-cam.com/video/tKXlzI0pKO4/w-d-xo.html
It is a matter of regret that this piece is being done to death. All clips of it should be taken down and there should be an embargo on any performance for at least 5 years.
If it's as well played as this I'm happy for it to stay up but there are far too many mediocre performances and some players seem to treat it as a kind of race to the finish. Fortunately Maestro Zecca is too much of a musician for that.
