    Brilliant commentary by Peter West.

Direct kick to touch allowed outside the 25 and did a player call a mark in the middle of the pitch. Also scrums fast and not low. Fascinating.

It is so good to be able to see videos of Welsh and British rugby of this era. Things have changed a lot since then and not all for the best!
Dewi Bebb who scores the two Welsh tries in this game was a Gym teacher and my form teacher at Waterhall Secondary Modern School in Fairwate, Cardif. He was well liked and respected by the kids at this tough Council Estate school - a hero to many of us and bloody nice fellow as well.
This video is a great memorial to players like Dewi Bebb- Any More?

You'd think some other BBC telecasts of games are lying around somewhere, ready to be digitized and downloaded to You Tube. Love Peter West's excitable commentary too.

As a rugby league fan it's great to see a young John Mantle here...not to mention Watkins

Can't believe how quickly they used to get the scrums done and dusted.

The game had a lot less fuss about it then as opposed to now. A lot less money, and a lot more joy and pride to boot. Now the bean counters are dictating everything, as they are now in football.

Note the built of the players, just athleticism and straight forward simple game of rugby.
Compare to gym-made he-men we get nowadays.

1:16 Look how quick the scrum formed up. And no penalty. Scrums have become over refereed and tedious. I say that as a former tighthead.

Line outs and scrums. See how fast they formed. Surely a lesson for us now ?

But they were dangerous. Just crashing in like that, a lot of neck injuries.

@@robertmason9265 I played in the era of crash scrums and, while I heard of injuries, I knew of only 1 serious injury. I think now we have gone too far the other way. Scrums take an age to set and for what purpose? The ball is put in behind the front row's feet so negating the whole purpose of the scrum.

You certainly got plenty of action in the forwards in those days. Some of the wingers got any ball at all

In the days when in a lineout it seemed to make no difference who was throwing, it could go to anyone.

Thanks for posting this. Marvellous memories & names from the past Budge Rogers, Clive Rowlands (who I think coached the Lions), David Watkins etc.

Hi there, I found this video on TH-cam and wondering if you know where its possible to get videos of full games from this era of 1960-1964? My great uncle played in 11 tests during this time, and would be great to get more footage.
Thanks for posting this amazing video

Hi Simon, I was wondering if you had any luck finding more old 5 nations videos. My father (Charlie Hodgson) played for Scotland in 1968 against Ireland and England. I'd love to see some of the footage of these matches.

Hi Ian, thanks for your message. I still continue to look for any videos of 5 nations, but unfortunately very hard to find. Id thought about contacting BBC possibly to see if they had anything. Please to see Hodgson being prolific rugby players in the 60's. Cheers

That's been my experience also unfortunately. I've only been able to find a short clip of one game on youtube. I'll let you know if I find anything. Cheers!

This is so long ago there's no ten yard offside for those not in a line out. There's a lot of mauling going on, but not like today's legalized obstruction mauls. The ball gets kicked out often too because there's no 25 yard line kick into touch law yet. And look at the overall size of players. No one seems to have been working out with weights. The players look fit enough, but like average men of that time, no hulking bulls like today.
