    I think it's funny how the closer we get to FSD not needing us to pay attention the better it gets at forcing us to pay attention.

    • @BLAISEDAHL96

      Yes!! Agreed, it seems almost paradoxical but is of course necessary.

    • @bigadog2k9
      @bigadog2k9 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Is it really necessary? It seems like a major downgrade that you can eat a sandwich in 2018 model S but get try that in 2024 Y and your fsd/autopilot gets cancelled.

    • @chrisp1336
      @chrisp1336 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Actually, our previous FSD has trained us to subconciously pay attention at the critical intersections/merges/roundabouts. So I agree completely.

      Yea, it's ironically so. They did remove the steering wheel nag, so that is contributing to the more relaxing driving experience, but they need to work on integrating the camera monitoring software within the overall system. I will just copy paste what I wrote earlier as my suggestion to this conundrum..
      I think, with driver attention monitoring camera activated and driver watching the road, all disengagement actions, except for the push down on the steering wheel stalk, should be just interventions. Ie. Steering wheel input and brake pedal input. Just like acceleration pedal and change lane indicator inputs are currently doing. That should improve the driving experience. Something to consider 🤔

    Most speed signs in Oregon do _not_ have *limit* written on them. That is because speeds are intended to be guidelines and the actual observed speed depends on many factors (weather, congestion, lighting, vehicle condition, etc.) That doesn't indicate _Autobahn_ conditions though there are a few areas of the state where such rules do apply!

    Dowloaded v12.5.1 a few hours ago. In my opinion it’s a regression. Don’t know what they did, but it is now more aggressive on stops and starts (even in Chill mode). It’s lost that buttery smooth feel of v12.5. There’s one street on campus with 3 stop signs within a short distance. FSD takes off running, then stops rather abruptly. Sort of regretting updating.

  • @jdudleyh
    @jdudleyh 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    The tricky part with blinking red lights is that unless it is marked with signage, or permanent and part of map data, or you can see the lights for all the other directions - FSD doesn't know if it is a 4 way stop or 2 way (or even just your way). It makes sense that FSD waits to see that the cross traffic stops, then proceeds to deduce that it is a 4 way stop.

    FSD now stops close to the stop sign but the new behavior is FSD then quickly creeps to a point it can decide to go or not go. Once you get used to it you'll be fine with the behavior. I'd still prefer it stop at the creep line but for now I'll take the improvement. I'm now on v12.5.1. Basically no difference from v12.5 that I could tell. Overall I love v12.5.x. Doesn't back up yet.

      Again, in other jurisdictions, in my case Australia, there is always a line in line with the stop sign at which you should stop. Rolling stops are not allowed here in New South Wales, but nearly everyone still does it. (I don't.)

    If you want to be on time you have to be early which means you have to leave a little bit earlier Don't blame the car. But the idea of looking ahead and seeing the traffic lights and the speed you need to go to maneuver around that's how I drive but very few people I drive with are able to do that. Safety is always deciding factor.

    If everyone are required to drive above the speed limit, that’s not Fsd issue but your local traffic regulator issue, either they fix the speed sign or you have to bear with the slower speed, because Fsd is trained to observe the sign and the speed sign for the rest of the world including my country is fixed, if above the speed limit, camera will capture and send you a fine after.

    Part of the problem with people who do FSD is they have stylistic criticism - the car doesn't drive like ME. But if you have a friend drive you somewhere do you think the whole time....he doesn't drive like ME? Nah. I think the merging in 12.5 is much smarter. Sometimes it slows, sometimes it accelerates. It's making better decisions.
    But yes the navigation system is terrible, the maps are terrible. They all need to be fixed.

    IMHO, the main new improvement with 12.5.x is hands-free and the technical detail of the whole stack driven by the same software.

    Tesla FSD 12.5 is still not, remotely, ready because many videos still showing it failing often. Chuck's turn was still a dangerous fail and Dirty Tesla had to stop it from trying to turn left from the right lane into oncoming traffic. A single experience in light traffic will, generally, not expose these dangers but FSD still has a very long way to go to be reliable enough to ever be anything beyond Level 2.

    I just got 12.5.1 last night. It's okay...I feel phantom breaking still. Not nearly as bad as before but sadly still there. It slowed down way to much to turn now and getting into turn lanes when traffic I stopped ahead. It's very uncomfortable at best. It's changing lanes late, or getting scared and jumping back. It reverses a foot or so when it sees it messed up. It's so slow at reacting to lights turning green. Speeds are not consistent or what you need it to be doing. Usually much slower than the speed limit. Maybe they rushed this update...??

    Douma definitely didn't specify memory vs processing. The whole point of optimization is you optimize against your bottleneck. 12.5 will 100% work on HW3 because it is nowhere near fully optimized, no early software versions are, in fact they are always optimized to meet the requirements because doing more than that is wasting money.

    7:23 Probably the stupidest and most insane comment comming from Dr. Know-it-all, it's a speed LIMIT meaning you are not supposed to go over it. Two wrongs doesn't make it right

    With more people using FSD, they will disengage with things like how fast the car is going or caring about drivers tailgating and the perceived need to go any faster will diminish.
    It'll ultimately eliminate road rage/ intolerance, hence benefit mental health and general quality of life.
    Who the hell wants to be a prisoner to the steering wheel?!

    I can't believe that you think it's necessary to drive faster than the legal speed limit anywhere. I'm in the UK and people do it here, too. However, the police (correctly) raise a lot of funds giving tickets to speeders. If it were safe to driver faster they'd set the speed limit higher. Simple.

    Wait doctors in Georgia are on time,? May wonders never cease!
    Here's a machine learning engineer's perspective on how to solve the problem of entering and exiting a parking lot for the first time.
    So FSD is essentially a vision action model which has been trained on billions and billions of scenarios of video indicating what right and wrong behavior is for a vehicle on the road. However, it doesn't seem to have much of a context window in the case of a text model like an llm, context is is simply the size of the near-term memory that the model utilizes to consume content about the prompt that it can then reason about... visual model This context is spatial temporal and not linguistic.
    Tesla can solve the problem by simply giving the model a larger spatial temporal context of spaces that it is currently navigating. This way it can consult the near recent memory in order to essentially gain a bird's eye view of the local navigating environment... This then can be used to enable the model to navigate out of the imagined context by creating new generative actions for escaping it's recollection but in reverse
    Making the changes indicated above be a bit more complex but will be extremely robust in brand new scenarios and many types of environments. It also as time goes by and the visual context is increased as hardware, it comes more efficient. The car can remember a larger portion of local navigated transport so that it can escape even more complex scenarios.
    That said, we still don't have reverse capability which on its own should significantly reduce the number of edge cases in the escape from pocket portion of the landscape of remaining edge cases. I'd imagine a significant chunk of scenarios, including the one that you had would be solved just by having reverse capability without needing to expand the visual context. However, that may be necessary for more complex parking lot scenarios (like multi level parking).

    It’s odd it can park ONLY in reverse, and can summon backward, but can’t do a 3-point Turn to reverse. Let’s stitch this up already FFS!

    5 - 10 mph over and getting honked at for stopping at stop signs is completely ridiculous. There are some people where I live that do that, but we have enough of people like me that notice these folks and make sure we observe all speed limits and stop signs when these folks are behind us. (They get annoyed and perhaps will leave early the next time, so they aren't late)😝
    If you reward or ignore unlawful behavior, it will continue. I mean, if everyone else is murdering people, that's fine.... right?🤔🤪

    Sadly, I will never see a full featured FSD 12.5.x on my 2021 Model Y because 12.5 can’t run on Hardware 3 cars. They hope to get it optimized down to Hardware 3 cars, but we all know that means cutting features to allow it run on older cars.
    Elon says it should come to Hardware 3 cars in 10 days, so maybe October we will see our stripped down FSD Supervised.
