@@KnitTogetherwithKimJonna OOh! that would be an awesome class. I have several techniques I use - for sock toe ends after the kitchner and for weaving in the start of round tail. I typically weave in and out of the toe end at least twice, one down and one up, then down the decrease edge, slip into the inside and weave two up and two down on the purl bumps. I used to tie off after the kitchner but my toes didn't like that little bump. This leaves no bump which is nice. For the top end, I weave down the ribbing and then slip inside and weave through the purl bumps, up 3 or four at an angle, then down 3, then up again. This usually prevents the ends from unraveling too far. I also leave the end a little longer so it stays inside. I would love to know how it's suppose to be done! I also acquired the monster cable beanie pattern and plan to knit one for me and possibly for everyone for Christmas next year. Was wonderful to hear all of Kim's trial and errors. Not sure it will prevent any from me, but it might...... also Kim I love your hair!! I used to color mine all the time as a stylist, but don't any longer. Although I do have some burgandy I might use soon. Geneology is a wonderful hobby. I had fun working on my then husband's side and pretty much completed it. My mom's parents side wasn't as easy to connect. I know very little about so much of his side. My dad's was pretty easy and fairly complete back to the 1600's on his side. I have nothing for my grandmother's side. My husband's was the same, way back to the 1600's on both sides. I couldn't afford to pay for registries back then and my mom's dad is half Cherokee. And that's where it gets lost. It was fun to research it all though. I've shared it with many of my relatives so hopefully it will continue.
I've been using K&C Counter for years! It's my deserted island tool. Jonna, I have a tip for you...Download your pattern on your phone and select and copy one column (or page, depending on the layout), switch to K&C Counter and paste onto the notes section, then hit enter. Back to the pattern to copy the next section (text, not charts), and so on. As you're knitting keep the notes page open and there's your pattern just below your counter. As you move to different sections you can change the odd and even row heading so you'll know where you left off. You can also set up repeats. I create a counter page for every project I knit with a name including yarn used and I change the background to a photo of the project or yarn. I haven't printed a pattern in years. In my opinion t's the best knitting app ever, anywhere!

Jonna, you have a lot of experience knitting hats. I'm trying to figure out how to avoid double pointed needles and magic loop when doing the decreases at the top of a hat. Would the new "shortie" circulars work? If so, it would make hat decreases easier.

Absolutely, there's an Uppland in Sweden and an Oppland in Norway. Uppland, Sweden is often written with and O by English speakers. 🙂👍 They're both states rather than cities / towns. Uppland, Sweden is on the east coast of the country (Uppsala being the main city) whereas Oppland, Norway is landlocked with Lillehammer as the main town.
I think Stockholm the capital of Sweden is the main city in Uppland. I grow up there and I spent time in both Stockholm and Uppsala, but now I live in Gothenburg at the west coast. I did not know about Oppland in Norway. Thank you for let me know.

Jonna, if you ever loose your callus again try liquid skin/liquid bandage. It gives you a flexible layer of protection on your fingertip. It’s a trick we used when I played the violin.
Great idea. I have used the liquid. And aid to cover a burn and I could put my hand in water without the extreme pain it normally causes. I often get a split I my finger when knitting, so painful I am going to try this.
I'm doing my first 2-color brioche, and I think being a tight knitter would help with that. I wish I had chosen a lest contrast-y pairing though, because you can definitely see any mistakes with a high-contrast pairing, and I spend almost as much time tinking as knitting 😅
Yes, sometimes people go down a needle size for brioche. You’re learning a lot! Every time we tink back, we learn something new. Jonna is doing lots of tinking on a Fair Isle vest due to color choices. Hang in there!
I like the moondrake- for brioche, even though all the yarns are lovely- beginning a love note sweater in March - in the gathering stages - getting needles, yarn and all the fixings

Jonna, I've done the same thing, poking a hole through the callus on my finger. I highly recommend a leather thimble with a metal "coin" on the fingertip, while the hole is healing over. (I then modified my technique so I don't need to push the needle with my finger, because ow, dangit!) I believe "bougie" was originally an insult; it comes from the word "bourgeois" (or bourgeoisie), and refers to conspicuous consumption in an effort to appear rich in an effort to fit in with and be accepted by wealthier people. Or maybe spending more than necessary because you can and you want to. (It would appear that the term has been reclaimed by the bougie people themselves, though, and now means "more expensive than the plain stuff and I'm totally worth it. Sorry not sorry." Not surprising in this ridiculous economy.)

Thanks for another lovely video. I started watching them soon after your initial videos. I had an injury that made me bed bound for several months, starting mid December of 2021 and I took up knitting. Googling a knitting question, your video came up as a suggestion and I have been watching you ever since. I had knitted when I was much younger and it was the enforced break that brought me back to it. I am still at best, an advanced beginner.
I love teaching children to knit and crochet. I used to be an educational assistant and at noon recess I would have about 100 children from grade 1 to 8 learning from me. What i found interesting, was that the little ones picked up on it much quicker than most of the older ones, so as soon as I noticed a few students understood the technique we were working on, I would break the students into smaller groups and my "junior assistants" would teach a group each. The older children, I assume, found things more difficult because they had preconceived notions about what they should be doing, which wasn't always correct, whereas the little ones took everything at face value. And since the little ones spoke in child language the other children learned from them quite quickly. I was worried the older ones would be offended that someone in perhaps grade 2 was teaching them, but they never were and I always just worded it that some children are naturals, and some have to learn the steps and eventually everyone would be able to do it, which they were.. I did have 3 or 4 older children that picked up quickly too, and helped teach. It was such fun. I had both boys and girls in the group, both learning and teaching, and it was wonderful.

I grew up around horses and always heard that for a biting horse you should boil a potato until it is soft and HOT. Wrap it around your upper arm/shoulder area and walk in front of the horse. When he bites into that hot potato he/she will decide that biting just isn't worth it anymore. Never tried it myself.
Jonna Here is a genius way(not my idea)to keep track of length of sleeves and sweaters. Take ur row gauge from ur swatch and multiply it times the number id inches needed for the length that u want ur sleeve or sweater to be. The total number is the rows needed to achieve the desired length. One more step is u can take key hole safety pins and mark every 20 or 40 rows. I divide the total number of rows needed by 20 then I count out the needed number of pins and hang them on the marker of my project. This way I don’t have to worry about measuring. Sometime using old tape measures gives u false info bc the tape is stretched out. Just an idea that might make life easier for you. I so enjoy the podcast and am so happy when a new one comes out.

Jonna, this is late, but check Amazon for colonial thimblepads. They are tiny leather sticky dots that stick on your finger so the needle does not poke through. Takes a bit of getting used to, but life changing with hiya hiya and other sharp needles.
Years ago when I was training my first pup the trainer had me buy a 30 ft leash and I wore it around my waist. Sometimes I wrapped it around my waist lots but if we were in a bigger room I gave him more slack. He followed me everywhere and was never out of sight and it was hands free so I could do anything

Petite Knit patterns are beautiful, but they don’t give as much information as I need. I finished the Sille Slipover and the Copenhagen Cardigan, but had issues with both. She just expects you to know more than I do, for sure. Love her designs, though.

Jonna, I have also recently punctured a hole in my index finger from pushing the stitch off the needle! I bought a soft thimble from the fabric store and that protects my finger but it won't stay on and came unglued after only 2 weeks of use. I've tried a bandaid (useless), moleskin (not thick enough), and have ordered some silcone finger protectors designed to save fingers from hot glue, but I suspect those aren't going to work either. I've tried to adjust my knitting to avoid pushing the stitch off, but it leads to disaster (stitches too loose or dropped). If anyone has a suggestion for an something that effectively protects an index finger while still offering enough flexibility, please share! Kim, if you aren't a 'pusher', maybe you could give us a little tutorial on how to knit without pushing. Love your podcast and look forward to each new episode!

Hi Jona, I also have had issues with the needle poking my fingers and it is extremely painful. I now use what is called “thimblepad” which is on Amazon. Give it a try. I love them.
Love this! I didn't measure the grand kids heads before knitting up either. One of my grandson's ended up being too big, so I completely frogged it and knit the toddler size which was just right & I was able to finish it the same day plus make another. Thanks for sharing all yours on Instagram; made me want to start right away. Kim I looked to see if I could find you on my 23&Me 😂; We have the same Scandinavian background and my family also settled in North Dakota (Minnesota) & Nebraska!
One of the best things you can give your Teddy, especially now as he is a growing puppy, is bone broth. It is called "liquid gold" and is so good for them - and you too! Read up about it. I make my own and store it in glass jars in the fridge. As I've mentioned, my dogs are so healthy, clean and happy! Healing comes from the inside out, not the reverse. Take care.

I’ve tried Farmer’s Dog, BalanceIT (DIY) and now Ollie. Vet says no raw, but freeze-dried is OK. The Stella and Chewy is too high in protein (gives him loose 💩 Still looking for healthy food that he will enjoy! (Besides plain cooked chicken)

One for Jonna - last year I met one of the ladies who knit the sweaters for All Creatures Great and Small. She said they have to knit multtiples of each garment - I guess in case one of the actors falls over in the pig pen and has to re-shoot the scene. So glad to hear that Teddy is coming along with his training. We have a seven month old Shih Tzu and she has just come out of the biting and mouthing stage, which we are very grateful for. This stage does pass. We were told by our trainer, that puppies learn by using their mouth. Patience, patience, patience!
Thank you. He's doing much, much better! We've had TWO days without accidents. He's lost two baby teeth! The trainer has helped immensely. He's so different from Henry, that I think I was mentally unprepared!
Loved Kim's story about the Monster beanies. I am going to knit one in gift yarn. The yarn is bulky and was beautifully hand dyed in Montana huckleberries. Can't wait to knit it. BUT the biggest smile is because Christmas 2021 I knitted 25 ribbed beanies in sock weight yarn. That was an undertaking.
Very much so! We're doing much better. Two days without accidents! Lots and lots of treats and busy toys. He's very trainable when he's not running into walls and trying to get onto the kitchen counter! LOL

Jonna, I've done the same thing, poking a hole through the callus on my finger. I highly recommend a leather thimble with a metal "coin" on the fingertip, while the hole is healing over. (I then modified my technique so I don't need to push the needle with my finger, because ow, dangit!)
I believe "bougie" was originally an insult; it comes from the word "bourgeois" (or bourgeoisie), and refers to conspicuous consumption in an effort to appear rich in an effort to fit in with and be accepted by wealthier people. Or maybe spending more than necessary because you can and you want to. (It would appear that the term has been reclaimed by the bougie people themselves, though, and now means "more expensive than the plain stuff and I'm totally worth it. Sorry not sorry." Not surprising in this ridiculous economy.)

I had an injury that made me bed bound for several months, starting mid December of 2021 and I took up knitting. Googling a knitting question, your video came up as a suggestion and I have been watching you ever since. I had knitted when I was much younger and it was the enforced break that brought me back to it. I am still at best, an advanced beginner.

Nice podcast. A high energy dog needs big dog walks, running where possible and safe. Dog parks possibly or doggy playmate in a big fenced yard.
We just bought a 30-ft leash for such activities! Yes, he’s very high-energy. He’ll be catching frisbees in no time. 🐶
I love teaching children to knit and crochet. I used to be an educational assistant and at noon recess I would have about 100 children from grade 1 to 8 learning from me. What i found interesting, was that the little ones picked up on it much quicker than most of the older ones, so as soon as I noticed a few students understood the technique we were working on, I would break the students into smaller groups and my "junior assistants" would teach a group each. The older children, I assume, found things more difficult because they had preconceived notions about what they should be doing, which wasn't always correct, whereas the little ones took everything at face value. And since the little ones spoke in child language the other children learned from them quite quickly. I was worried the older ones would be offended that someone in perhaps grade 2 was teaching them, but they never were and I always just worded it that some children are naturals, and some have to learn the steps and eventually everyone would be able to do it, which they were.. I did have 3 or 4 older children that picked up quickly too, and helped teach. It was such fun. I had both boys and girls in the group, both learning and teaching, and it was wonderful.

We had a horse that keep nipping at my husband so one day he bit him back and he never did it again.
I grew up around horses and always heard that for a biting horse you should boil a potato until it is soft and HOT. Wrap it around your upper arm/shoulder area and walk in front of the horse. When he bites into that hot potato he/she will decide that biting just isn't worth it anymore. Never tried it myself.

Jonna Here is a genius way(not my idea)to keep track of length of sleeves and sweaters. Take ur row gauge from ur swatch and multiply it times the number id inches needed for the length that u want ur sleeve or sweater to be. The total number is the rows needed to achieve the desired length. One more step is u can take key hole safety pins and mark every 20 or 40 rows. I divide the total number of rows needed by 20 then I count out the needed number of pins and hang them on the marker of my project. This way I don’t have to worry about measuring. Sometime using old tape measures gives u false info bc the tape is stretched out. Just an idea that might make life easier for you.

Jonna, this is late, but check Amazon for colonial thimblepads. They are tiny leather sticky dots that stick on your finger so the needle does not poke through. Takes a bit of getting used to, but life changing with hiya hiya and other sharp needles.

Years ago when I was training my first pup the trainer had me buy a 30 ft leash and I wore it around my waist.
Sometimes I wrapped it around my waist lots but if we were in a bigger room I gave him more slack. He followed me everywhere and was never out of sight and it was hands free so I could do anything

Jonna, I have also recently punctured a hole in my index finger from pushing the stitch off the needle! I bought a soft thimble from the fabric store and that protects my finger but it won't stay on and came unglued after only 2 weeks of use. I've tried a bandaid (useless), moleskin (not thick enough), and have ordered some silcone finger protectors designed to save fingers from hot glue, but I suspect those aren't going to work either. I've tried to adjust my knitting to avoid pushing the stitch off, but it leads to disaster (stitches too loose or dropped). If anyone has a suggestion for an something that effectively protects an index finger while still offering enough flexibility, please share! Kim, if you aren't a 'pusher', maybe you could give us a little tutorial on how to knit without pushing. Love your podcast and look forward to each new episode!
I think Kim does push, but with her thumb. There are some suggestions above, including liquid bandage and semi-oval stick-on thimbles!

Love this! I didn't measure the grand kids heads before knitting up either. One of my grandson's ended up being too big, so I completely frogged it and knit the toddler size which was just right & I was able to finish it the same day plus make another. Thanks for sharing all yours on Instagram; made me want to start right away. One of the best things you can give your Teddy, especially now as he is a growing puppy, is bone broth. It is called "liquid gold" and is so good for them - and you too! Read up about it. I make my own and store it in glass jars in the fridge. As I've mentioned, my dogs are so healthy, clean and happy! Healing comes from the inside out, not the reverse. Take care.

When I was a new knitter I had pretty sharp needles and poked holes in my index finger. There are semi-oval stick-on thimbles. They were a life-safer!

One for Jonna - last year I met one of the ladies who knit the sweaters for All Creatures Great and Small. She said they have to knit multtiples of each garment - I guess in case one of the actors falls over in the pig pen and has to re-shoot the scene. I wish someone would publish a book of knitting patterns for those shows. I suggest you also take a look at the knitwear in the movie The Guernsey Literary and potato Peel Pie Society

Thank you for the suggestion. It sounds simple to count stitches for gauge but there are definitely some tricks to it!
Jonna you should look at Knit companion, it combines row counting on the pattern, plus charts you can mark where you are every row as you knit it..
The counters are nice and I used to use it, but I find Good Notes much less complicated. Maybe it’s because I was always in pdf world at work! Thank you.

So glad to hear that Teddy is coming along with his training. We have a seven month old Shih Tzu and she has just come out of the biting and mouthing stage, which we are very grateful for. This stage does pass. We were told by our trainer, that puppies learn by using their mouth. Patience, patience, patience!
Thank you. He's doing much, much better! We've had TWO days without accidents. He's lost two baby teeth! The trainer has helped immensely. He's so different from Henry, that I think I was mentally unprepared!
Loved Kim's story about the Monster beanies. I am going to knit one in gift yarn. The yarn is bulky and was beautifully hand dyed in Montana huckleberries. Can't wait to knit it. BUT the biggest smile is because Christmas 2021 I knitted 25 ribbed beanies in sock weight yarn. That was an undertaking.
