hey, it is very helpful.. many thanks for this.... actually I am new to audacity, and I found your videos and tutorials really very helpful one more thing,,, I've imported one MP3 track, and when I am recording my vocals with it, the track sound is so loud as compare to my vocals. so is there any way to minimize the track volume a bit or I have to use the "normalize" option? please help..
I encounter an additional problem with Audacity. When I add vocal tracks to an instrumental track, sometimes the playback stalls a tiny bit, randomly, adding more latency. To sync the vocals to the music I then have to manually remove large chunks of latency, or, if it is too messed up, to re-record and hope the playback doesn't stall too much. How would you fix this? More RAM?
I have the same problem. And the issue is not the computer. It isn't memory or hardware. I have zero issues editing video (with sound). It's only latency in Audacity that's the problem.
I seem to have a different version of Audacity where I go to Edit then Preferences, and then it says MIDI Devices instead of Devices, but the number is 7, not -130 for some reason.
Look for “audio settings” (instead of “devices”) as I think I have the same version, then you will see “interface” as the top icon which is followed by a few other settings until you’ll “latency”. Latency compensation should be there at -130 milliseconds. I hope this has helped if you haven’t sorted it just yet ✌🏼
Yes, for recording on the second stereo track in Audacity, you can play back the first track on the PA so the mic will pick it up again to fix audio latency.
Hello there. Your videos are really helpful. I have a new issue, all of a sudden my mic, a new Yeti, started to lag when I speak into the mic. I can hear the lag in real time through my earphones as a I speak. I have never experienced this and it's vert strange like a slight echo/reverb sound, using Audacity. Any thoughts?
if i have a audio file that is single track only and i have audio which sounds like i have a second lagged duplicate baked in ( like an echo but you know its not reverb), i presume there is no way to fix this?
Why is my recording not aligning with my video? I record 5 minutes via audacity and my iPhone 14 Pro Max but when I sync, the audio could be 3 minutes. How do I fix this?
Try using a clapboard or a sharp noise to create a clear audio marker in both the video and audio recordings, then use Audacity's 'Shift' tool to align them together.
Is this what I need to do for when I record a conference with several cameras and audio recorders at different places around the room? When I sync the audio and video sources while editing, they start off synced well and then start getting out of sync the farther into the video I get.
@@MikeRussell I understand how that bypasses the latency, but how do I hear both the previously recorded track and what's coming from the audio interface simultaneously?

@@Rin-cu5fz did you find any solution to this? Im having same problem, ut was all right before but after resetring my pc, no Daw is picking up the right on track latency
Is not working for me at all. I've tried restarting from scratch and each time the latency measur is different but no matter how I change it there is never an improvement. In fact, I can make it worse, but never better
Audio latency in this context refers to the delay between when a sound is created and when it's heard, which can be adjusted and minimized in Audacity to improve the synchronization between clicks in your audio tracks.

thanks, i used to brute force just clipping the extra milliseconds
this helps a lot
thanks for this, so much of my stuff has been janked up by time discrepancies
You're welcome! Time discrepancies can really throw things off!

having this same proble, did you find the fix?
Same problem here

You need to click 'record on a new track' it's under Preferences in one of the menus at the top.
Awesome, simple and easy. Thanks!
Glad you found the video helpful!
Bout to go viral. Thank you. I've been struggling with this shit for years
I'm glad to hear the video was helpful for you! Here's to smoother audio editing from now on.

Yes, you can easily adjust the track volume in Audacity by selecting the track and using the "Amplify" effect to lower its volume level.

Make sure your computer has a fast enough processor, enough RAM and a fast enough hard drive

Changing the latency compensation setting in my preferences seems to have no effect at all on the amount of latency I hear on playback.

Hmm, versions can differ. If you're seeing "MIDI Devices" instead of "Devices," you might be looking at a different section.

That's latency. If you're trying to monitor through the computer then that's as expected. You need to monitor direct from your Yeti

Try using DeReverb but with what you describe I believe the audio is likely to be a write off I'm afraid
Does this work for drum machines?
Sure, I can’t see why not.
@@MikeRussell would I use a mic still or would the latency be different?

That will be sample rate differences causing the problem I'd imagine
I tried this on mine and it still didn’t fix the delay on mine . Is there something else I can do to fix it ?
I recommend adjusting your buffer size settings in your audio interface's control panel to further reduce latency in Audacity.
How would you do this with a audio interface and a guitar?
That’s just latency I’m afraid however if you monitor directly from the interface you’ll hear the audio without the effects of latency.

Monitor directly from your interface or mixer and you’ll get latency free monitoring.

Monitor through the mic’s headphone port.

Dude, too much bass on your vocals; the BIG bass does NOT match your SMALL physical disposition; frickin hilarious
Thanks for the feedback! I'll make sure to adjust the bass levels for a more balanced sound next time.
