I once did inspections for banks that took ownership of various properties for different reasons, usually repos. I drove my own vehicle and sometimes wore protective clothing. I always had total access including keys if there were any. Those guys looked like they were doing a legal inspection. I carried a cell phone for pictures and a laptop for recording my findings. I was always nice to anyone I discovered inside just like those guys were. I also carried in case anything went seriously wrong. I think they were legitimate property inspectors. I could be wrong but I don't think so. If you're nice they will leave you alone. They have no reason to be a threat to anyone. It's kind of a weird job but it pays well.

If they were inspecting and suspected asbestos, which they said there was a lot of, wouldn't they being wearing reperators? I'm just asking because they should know the risk and know the need for protection. OSHA would probably not be thrilled.
@@mamasgonecreating1967 no ..people who do these kind of inspections usually are not very well trained ...I inspected foreclosed houses for banks and cleaned them out and other jobs banks wanted done...there is no training any one can do it...it does pay very well...but only thing different on places like this we were suppose to call local police and let them know we would be at that property and go to neighboring houses and businesses to let them know we were working on the property... inspections was really done with just a camera ....noting damage and then sending the pics and damage report to the company we got the job from...theres no real guidelines for this kind if work ...

@@mattterk753 But those men were not there to inspect what kind of a clearance job it was, they actually stated they were checking the structure to establish if it was worth keeping or tearing down. Clearing out a property is one thing but to sign documents stating that a building is fit for purpose for commercial or otherwise use is a totally different ball game.

You never disappoint...every offering is simply superb. I am still away in Crete for another week, so I’m quite behind on my favourite channels, but couldn’t stop myself from taking a peek. As usual, your vision shines through, and brings me a smile.
You came to my thoughts as we were visiting some of the small old villages off the beaten path...there were several homes and buildings ranging from pre-WWI period through to WWII and later abandoned and decaying.
There were also many archaeological remains from 4000 + years ago that can be walked through at one’s own pace. You and Kristy would really enjoy wandering🤗 about this island. A huge number of ancient Basilicas with frescoes are dotted all over the place. Stay safe...and peace out, I will get all caught up once I’m back home again...but I really want to stay here much longer than I have. Take care of yourselves out there.🖤🇨🇦

Besides all the abandoned malls I see on the channels of other explorers, it’s particularly worrisome when I see schools and hospitals abandoned.

Cool vid as always. Very interesting to see the inside of an old school. It’s a shame that ALL those old shoes are going to waste when they could be used. Hopefully this building will be repurposed as something else maybe apartments or small condos. Those guys that you came in contact with seemed pretty cool about you being there. They reminded me of the STAY PUFT Marshmallow man from Ghostbusters. It also looks like you recorded this in the summer of LAST YEAR is that correct? 9:07 We used to have those Magnavox tv's in every class in our middle and high schools in the 00's. Those were used for the school news network but they also got regular cable tv and the cool teachers would put on regular cable tv at times.
My guess? Those guys were in there to scout for scrap. They go in, look around for things to take, then come back with a team and a plan for removal of valuable scrap. But you did the right thing, when you think it's time to haul ass, just haul ass! On my last video I had an opportunity to interview a guy when I was just walking up to the abandoned rooming house I was there to video. Leon was SOLID GOLD! check him out...
When was the last time you've seen a scrapper driving a nice car? There's two types of scrappers, one has a rusty shit-box pick-up truck, the other a shopping cart.

That was my point. OSHA wouldn't let asbestos removal, or inspection be performed without a respirator. Im a collision Tech, and if we were seen in the booth without on, we would be fired.

They didn't claim to be maintenance men. They claimed to be building inspectors and that's exactly what they would wear - tyvek suits. One of them said exactly why they're not wearing masks too, although I'm pretty sure their boss wouldn't accept that excuse.
Lol hubby said definitely copper theives. My husband has dealt with alot over the last 5 years. That gate doesnt mean anything at all. They will say and do so much to make you think they are legit.

Yeah and he said they were just there to see if it was structurally sound. So I'm not sure why he is surprised by the plain vehicle.
I work in the construction trade, in see a lot of the time not everyone follows 100% PPE protection. They could be legit inspections, but they do have that proper self defense weapon protection feel going on. They seem legit bit not sure of what haha. Keep up the good work
Loved this video!! Those dudes were suss, in Australia any inspectors have to have badges and High visible/safety clothing/shoes on. No cameras and no check lists either........Suss hahaha. I absolutely believe they were holding guns behind their backs when they confronted you in the hallway. I'm pretty peaceful generally, but do you carry just to even the playing field when you're doing explores? I was worried for you guys. I don't believe for one minute they were there to inspect the building. Be safe!

Doubt the meth lab. the smell would be way too obvious and contamination way too high. If he knew he was dealing wtih a lot of Abestos I fully expect them wearing respirators. going in building that are containated like tha tona daily buses he would never complain about a mask being hard to breath. These guys talking about the structural integrity was bullcrap though. I get the vibe they are cops doing routine checks to keep that building clean of tresspassers. Only because they followed you to watch you do what you do.

I worked for an asbestos firm for a bit here in the UK trust me if they were there for that they'd have had masks on, and those arms behind their backs, those dudes were strapped. Definitely Breaking Bad in there somewhere ! Great explore :D
I don't think those two were who they said they were. The story about checking the structural integrity of an abandoned building that's completely boarded up didn't sound plausible. I think the school may be a drop point for illegal contraband or a place they store it. I don't think building inspectors would have followed you downstairs like that. I think legit inspectors would have gone about their jobs after telling you that you weren't supposed to be in there. As others have noted, both had their right hands concealed behind their backs which indicates to me they were carrying and ready to roll. I can see the reason for inspectors like that to carry, but to not secure their weapons after determining you were not a threat tells me something else was up. I think they were most likely scrappers. Scrappers are very dangerous because they know they're committing multiple felonies and if they're caught they will end up in prison. You made the best decision which was to leave and you didn't waste time doing so. You did a great job playing the encounter off with them.
This was a great explore! It's a shame that grand old building is going to waste. I loved the vaulted ceilings! Today's school buildings are too antiseptic with no style. These old buildings had class and style. The shoes may have been required as part of a school uniform. Uniforms are required mostly by many private schools, but some public schools have them too and this school may have provided them.
By the way, I was thinking you were busting on your cohorts with the title since they were the only other two there until late in the explore! :-)
American Explorer, you are probably right. philjava thinks they may have been legitimate, but it's interesting how different people think differently. It's like a game of catch 22.
I was thinking the same thing as far as storing, dropping or picking up contraband and/or stolen weapons. They were very sketchy and seemed to be looking for quick answers. Glad you guys got out of there!

Those guys were SO sketchy! You could tell by the nervousness in their voices, responses, and reactions. They were not inspectors-they were nervous about you finding out what they were doing there what they are hiding.
Better put a tinfoil hat on and make up a crazy complicated theory when the simplest is most likely true.
