She's on another level as a 'natural talent' very few have.
She must have been amazing to watch in practice as she lacks the nerves of steel that Aliya had in meets.
@@PageMarker1 Agreed. She seemed a bit prone to mistakes that cost her titles that were soooo at her fingertips. Mustafina was a mental soldier where as Komova was not. Komova was so fluid & elastic; she just floated. My favorite gymnast of all time.
@@motherjugs5163 As an ex-gymnast, I've seen guys that can light up the practice gym with startling moves they'd never put in their routines. All nerves once they got the nod. Viktoria reminds me of those sorts of performers, but her UB was as good as anyone's. Oh, she tapped her toe in London in '12, big deal. Oh, Maroney didn't win gold she took as step. Tend to remember these gymnasts as trailblazers as they just stand out more, win, lose or draw.
@@PageMarker1 I always wondered about that - that in practice some of these gymnasts would exploded - but it's a mental game, isn't it? I, too, remember Vika's toe tap. It broke my heart for her.

That vault landing is what lost her the gold … so sad because she is exquisite… and I’m American lol
You could tell she was fighting so hard for the gold here... If only she had the same mentality on that vault landing.
she did an interview with match tv in 2017, and reacted to her vault landing. she said "I walked away from the gold medal here" :(

@@joychuasihan12 at least she understood in the end how it turned out. She can still be truly proud of her accomplishments, not many leave the Olympics as a medalist.
@Gustavo If douglas ever watches this routine, she should be ashamed of her title. You have to take into account the elements Komova performs 100% better than Douglas, starting with walking as a gymnast with legs together,

Good God! That opening pass and the icicle triple twist. This was the greatest floor routing ever. She got screwed. Difficulty level was way higher than old Gabby! Obviously, I don't know gymnastics but I watch them in the Olympics each time. This was just on a higher level and raised the bar from then on after.
"Greatest floor routine ever"? Komova's routine was amazing, no doubt, but why do you think it was the greatest ever? There have been far more difficult ones and that alone makes hard it to grant her routine the GOAT title. You probably argue with execution, which was wonderful, yes. But an easier routine is less likely to get many deductions, so the relatively low difficulty store will always make other routines look more impressive. Komova's routine was extremely difficult of course, but it's the best of the best we're talking about here, so the standards are ridiculously high.
This routine goes into history books of this sport, That honestly is alot better then that undeserved gold from the American.
@@mariusa.5863 This is the best routine in the sport every preformed as it has both factors of Artistic Gymnastics. Something no other country has except Russia. The combination of Power with Artistry is SUPERB to any routine anyone else has preformed.

@@mariusa.5863 To me it's just the way she does her flying spinning twists. On the floor, the beam and the bars it's just so beautiful. Something that's awe inspiring to the eyes. It's probably just her body type but I just can't believe when I see it each time. No matter how many times I watch it it just blows me away. Never saw it that way from anyone before or after. Obviously this is just coming from a casual watcher.
I love ❤this routine. She really put her heart into it. She had to be happy with this routine…almost perfect. If I was her, I would let this routine play over and over on a screen above my fireplace.
I lived this routine with her. All night I was pro-Gabby but after this floor, after the passion I saw...I feel Vika deserved to win, even with that vault. She was good everywhere else. Gabby was good too, but Vika's floor was perfect.

Underscored or harshly judged? Either was I think she should have won, but I’ve accepted Gabby’s win.

@@neilmcgovern6982 Gabby was highly overscored on bars and beam in particular. The fact that she received a 15.733 on bars with 6.6 D score and a .3 hop on the landing was criminally high. Komova is the true champion.
I don’t know I still think Gabby should have won overall. 🤷♂️
If only she hadn't given up on her vault landing at this competition, she would've easily won the AA. I'm sort of/kind of ok with Gabby's win due to Viktoria's shoddy vault landing. But I do think the margin in which Gabby won over Viktoria should've been smaller. Either that or Viktoria should've won by a small margin over Gabby. I haven't watched this competition in ages so it's hard for me to say with any reason certainty.
No the judges got it right. The margin of Gabby’s victory over Komova was correct. They were basically (I said basically) the same gymnast, so it made complete sense how big the score gap was at the end when you factor in that awful vault landing vs a pretty solid amanar.
@@JetBlueAirways320 Gabby was overscored on beam and bars. There's no way in hell that the judges could justify Gabby having better execution than Aliya on bars. Also, Gabby's switch ring should've been downgraded to a switch split, because it simply wasn't a ring. If Gabby wasn't American, Viktoria would've won.
@@fortheloveofcats2462 Beam was scored correctly. Komova and Gabby basically had the same routine with one decider: the Arabian vs the back tuck full. There’s one tenth there. The beam scores were one tenth or so apart, going to Gabby. Beam was scored right. Gabby’s ring checked the boxes it needed to.
It makes sense that a bar routine with high difficulty had more deductions. It’s a trade off.
@@JetBlueAirways320 it certainly did not check the boxes. Her leg wasn't at head height and her back was straight. That was an oversplit, but not a ring, so Gabby should've scored one tenth lower than what she was given. And I'm not comparing her bars score to Vika who had a couple of errors on bars and was scored correctly, but to Aliya who was nearly flawless. Gabby, with her short handstands had a higher execution score than Aliya, which shows that she was overscored.

You could tell she was fighting with everything she got to get that gold. I really think she should’ve won the all-around gold. Gabby was overscored. Perfect routine.
Why? Komova had only 0.2 tenths advantage in start values over Gabby, it all came down to cleaness and Gabby wasn't the gymnast that took a bunch of steps in her vault, if anything they were generous with Komova's vault score. Chow constructed Gabby's routine amazingly for London and she had the meet of her life.
this was an incredible routine. but it's an all-around competition and they can't just like, give her the points she needed to make up for her vault because she did so well here 🤷♀️

She deserved it more? Then she should have EARNED it. She should have fought for that vault landing- and didn’t. Silver was the end result, and that’s how life is!

Douglas overscored on floor, Execution score
I wish there were artistry deductions back in 2012 like there are today. Gadirova won the floor final in 2022 based on artistry. Gabby Douglas had fewer errors than Komova on vault, but if artistic ability were a factor, Komova would have won the gold based on her floor, which was a work of art.

La gimnasta más injustamente tratada. En el mundial sin fallar ningún aparato el oro fue para la americana que salió del tapiz y tuvo un fallo en asimétricas importante que de ser de otra nacionalidad no hubiera pasado del 8 puesto en la AA. Y en Londres es cierto que Loba tuvo el fallo en salto. Pero ojo cuan sobrepuntidada estuvo de nuevo la americana en barra y asimétricas.
Nailing one routine out of four on a day when it counts is why she wasn’t the AA champion. Consistency counts.

Stolen only by her own mistakes, period. Sore losers carry that kind of mentality. She acknowledged later that she walked away from gold on that vault, but still appreciated everything she accomplished. You should try doing the same instead of degrading another athlete who performed at their best and earned their gold medal.
