Hi Raj, I request you to not interrupt, as I was looking forward to hear her out especially about financial literacy, because she is right that much women aren't aware about the same. For instance, I am a working professional, MBA finance, it is difficult for me as well.

No, Raj you are wrong. Women dont make financial decisions even after earning. Men take charge of the money earned by women, have seen it closely. Yeah, women might need to learn it but change is happening super slowly.

Women also make their own financial decisions. Take for example single earning woman, a single mother, and many more like women who don't interfere in their husband or father's earnings. Women are there who are totally on their own.

@@Shaktiman346 oh yes. We are still in the patriarchal set up and the change is gradual but happening. Women are empaths too, yes these women also exist. I have these circles of women amazing humans totally on their own and doing amazing. They struggle alone and make positive changes just being in this world dealing silently yet ferocious humans. Till there is a balance which is not sooner for the society to accept. Coin it as feminism etc. patriarchal or matrilineal set ups are being challenged. The topics are sensitive and debatable, I am ending it here.

What is the alternative that you are giving us if you want to change the patriarchal system which is time tested and it works just fine. It has many flaws no doubt but a lot better than those single parent households we see in the West.

My school teachers taught us humility, kindness, humbleness, etc. But when we finished school and stepped out into college/workplace, nobody gave a damn. Politeness, kindness, humbleness are often looked at signs of weakness in our society. I would often be very polite to autowallahs and everytime they would charge me extra unless I fight with them. I have said thank you in grocery stores and nobody has bothered. So these teachings are probably limited to schools or a few schools; but I am glad that you made this excellent podcast so that at least there is discussion on this topic.

Only one input on 'women don't take financial decisions' - not everyone HAS TO do everything. I'm not a superwoman and I'm content with that.

Also, the reason for not having financial talks in circle is first conventionally it was never a female thing to do because of conventional authority of man in major decisions of family and secondly with changing times, if women's double burden is not removed and household chores divided equally, then women will always mostly be pre occupied with talks which she became used to for example child, family life, life experiences in general. I think if men at home share domestic stuff equally and ask for advices and opinions on each n every stuff on anything which can affect them as couple or family and take decisions mutually then women might be more motivated to gain knowledge regarding finances. Understanding of equality, reducing ego and support is the key. As, it's easy to say women baat hi nhi karti finances ki, knowledge nhi h is vjh se hm unki sunte nhi blah blah.

    1) If the hosts of a podcast can clock the amount of time taken to ask a question under 15-20 seconds, it would be great pleasure to the audience.
    2) If the guests present the research data/statistics/evidence which coherently supports their answers, it would be authentic and more impactful to the audience.

Saloni should know that values of people ethics changes with time, someone cheating in school can be an honest husband or person as time passes. That's why criminals ki saza maaf hoti h. Failures during school secure most respectable jobs. Irony happens. Most obedient girls turn toughest to be convinced.

Her logic at the 8:00 timestamp is wrong. She says Henry Ford education system came to India due to the British. British were in India since much earlier and they brought their own education system, the roots of which can be still seen in our ICSE and state board systems (may be even CBSE). British didn’t copy Henry Ford. His system came in circa 1913-1927

Great podcast as always ! I like when Raj does not always agree with the guest. He gives another perspective to the conversation.
Now regarding financial decisions by women:
Saloni just mentioned that men take charge of the money earned by women which is true in some cases. But she didn't go into depth of it on why it happens. And it's not always because of men being dominant.
Raj rightly said it's sometimes because women not interested enough in this topic and are lazy to do this stuff.
I have three scenarios that I would like to share.
    1. My sister was earning before marriage and she took charge of the money she earned. My parents or I didn't ask her where she spends or invests. But when she she got married, she started giving all her salary to her mother-in-law just to establish herself as so called "achhi bahu" and also satisfy ego of her husband as a typical "Mumma's boy". But still she wasn't given that respect and never had any authority of taking any decisions for the family. She was even expected to take care of household chores and kids after work. Her husband never took part in anything else apart from office work. In the end she had to leave her job and become a housewife. And even her husband wasn't financially literate. He used to just live paycheck to paycheck. I advised my sister to request her husband to at least buy a term insurance to safeguard his family. And guess what he just shouted at her saying she wants him dead that's why she wants him to buy term insurance. Now she regrets leaving her job.
    2. Scenario -2 --- My wife used to earn when she was single and it was her dad who used to invest her money. In fact, she was given only food and commute expenses but her family out of her own salary. And rest they used to invest. And as expected her father being from older generation, he invested in LIC endowment plan and PPF. And when she got married to me, I introduced her to mutual funds and other investment instruments. But she just asked me to handle all that. She wasn't interested at all in this. So I invested her salary into Mutual funds and all (of course under her name only). Now, whenever I start any discussion around investments or future planning, she doesn't give much attention to it. She always has other things to talk about. So I concluded that she is genuinely not interested in financial matters. She just wants me to take care of it. So, as Raj mentioned some women are really not interested and also their friend circle never discusses these things. And if I talk about my circle, sometimes we talk for hours related to investments, tax savings, etc. So it's just matter for interest.
    3. Scenario -3 --- My wife's sister is another unique case. She earns similar to my wife (Same profession as computer teacher). And she just saves her salary jnto saving account and invests only in FDs or PPF. She doesn't understand the concept of inflation. She is a very paranoid kind of person. She is scared of mutual funds as they invest in stocks. She is ready to pay tax to the government but will not invest in NPS to save tax because NPS is linked to market. And now the unbelievable thing which is next level. She doesn't even use gpay or upi for digital payments because she is scared to lose her money. When I hire any electrician, carpenter or any daily wager for household tasks, even they take payments via gpay. And if she gets married, I am pretty sure she would ask her husband to take charge of money.
So it's not always men being dominant in case of financial decisions. Women are mostly not interested themselves. I think not everyone has to do everything. If husband has better knowledge in making financial investments, then nothing wrong in doing that for your life partner also. But yes women just need to be aware where her money is going. Like I have given my wife the access of Apps where she can track her investments. Although, she doesn't do that, but I keep telling her so if anything happens to me, she should know where her and my money is.

It's true that women often don't discuss saving money because they might not have a supportive circle for that conversation, and men also may not have much knowledge on the topic. Ma'am had valid points too, which is why the interruption happened. It's natural for discussions to get lively when we’re trying to express ourselves clearly. My first question was did you? I was relieved when he did not. However, his next question was mom so what if they get more marks than me. Is that right? I could just say copying cannot take people far in their life and it wont make any difference to your life. Yet, it is very discouraging schools work like a factory. If the results are good after copying, is that a real result, for the individual, school or country? Potraying good results, is just a way to advertise to get more and more students.

My 2 cents here. My personal opinion coming from my own experience.
I disagree with Saloni, when she says if a students cheats in exams, there is a probability they will be dishonest in the future. As Raj said, a student is often desperate to clear the exam because of the pressure put on them that even an honest person will resort to cheating. I was an average student, and I always knew marks were not everything that's why i never took the pressure of excelling in academics. I hated cheating and cheaters too. So much so that I would turn in students who would cheat. No remorse whatsoever. However, all changed for my 12th boards when i just couldn't clear my interim exam papers and out of desperation did a bit of cheating for my board exams. This was 15 years ago. My value system was not impacted. I'm now even more honest.
If anything needs to change, it's the defunct and redundant education system.
