This is the sound of my childhood growing up in the Philly area. More than half of our Neoplans had this setup with the DD 6V92TA mated to the Allison tranny. Loved when the drivers got on the throttle like this one here.
I remember taking this bus to Disneyland! You know back in the 90's and always stood out from the crowd for only having doors in the front/tall seats/extra wheels in the back. :)
I nearly lost my head when listening around 0:20-0:26....so slow and smooth sounding...and the exhaust made it sound so harmonious!! You can has LIKEY-status!
What is the difference between the T, V, and A- Drive Neoplans. I know that the T-Drive means that the axle is farther away from the engine, the V-Drive is close to the engine, but what is the A-Drive cuz I'm seeing Neoplan AN440-A. What is it?
Maybe the original poster didn't move there until some time later in the 1990s. I've lived in Southern Cal. for all of my life, they had these starting in 1987, but sadly retired. them . These and the new, post-GMC, RTS II buses introduced me to the V731 transmission, ironically the predecessor Neoplans, with the conventional rear exit door, had the four speed Allisons, the same controls, not sure about the model type. Of course, these Neoplans and the RTS II's by TMC were the earliest to use today's concept of the "finger touch activated" controls we see now..
What's up with this express bus (1189). is this the only bus that you guys have I mean there's like a 100 videos showing about this bus engine. come on now I know there's an 1984 Neoplan AN-440A bus around in the lot somewhere

This bus sounds very smooth love the Detroit sound to it

Sounds very soothing. I can't believe this bus was still running in 2010, that means it was 23 years old!!
Bob Ambrose Jr. Read the description
6V92TA.
Which buses replaced these?
@@enolamsamoht I think the 2001 C40LF's replaced them. 1189 was privately operated in 2010 and still exists now.
Got to ride this bus a long time ago after it got retired from metro
Wow... I never seen a bus with two wheels in the back before
Yeah, I never knew LACMTA had these types of buses before.
Thats one fine bus!
Sounded just like the D40HFs my city used to have...
Yes, the 1992-93 models in Detroit also had Detroit Diesels in them.
i love the sound of that allison.
That unmistakable whine is awesome
I rode in one of these buses in Downtown LA just once!
Great sounding coach! This one sounds like it is geared for the freeway I believe?
I enjoyed riding these buses when they where in Milwaukee Wisconsin from 1986-2002 I miss these buses they where the best I ever ride on
@daniel022209
I believe the other "A" indicates the advanced design. The first "A" indicates a USA-spec model made by Neoplan USA.
I'm done. I'm coming to L.A. just to ride this bus. I miss riding these so much. 5 stars
I rode this bus as LINE 207..
memories of route 209 and route 439.
These buses were slow but the way it rides was a sleeping pill on wheels
I saw this bus in another video with the same 1189 # being driven by another dude
I thought Neoplans were T-drive.
Joseph Heston They had the V-drive and T-drive options. Very few buses had that option. Another bus that had that option was the New Flyer D40HF.
Is this a suburban bus? I see it has 2 rear axles. NICE sound. Get those 6V-92's while you can.
love that sound. gotta go to la.
and a Flxible in the background!?
I saw these buses in Downtown LA
