My dad’s name is Bob. This was his favorite movie and he always reminded of the Bob in this movie. He passed yesterday 2/23/2019. I will always love him.

haha probably. Though (I know some people know this) but Murray and Dreyfuss did not get along filming this. Not just the characters but the actors themselves. It makes me wonder if some of the real life tension could not be seen at times in the film (esp from Dreyfuss). Sad too because this movie is hysterical. This movie became one of my favorite films because I struggled with OCD my whole life, especially as a kid. Seeing Bob get progressively better provided me with great catharsis and to this day I watch this movie when I'm struggling. I believe, without a modicum of doubt, this is one of, if not, Bill Murray's most underrated performance.
Love Julie Haggarity. Everything she does cracks me up. Her understated response to everything makes this movie for me. She has that same comedic charm in Airplane!

I see a therapist like bob for anxiety it always brings a smile to my face imagining what would happen if I showed up at his house one day like bob lol😂 I don't think my therapist would be nearly as patient as dr. I remember a month ago I was dining out at a restaurant a friend offered to buy me a rhubarb pie (first time trying it) for dessert and while I was eating the rhubarb pie I couldn't help but act like Bob at the dinner table, then when our waitress stopped by to see if everything was alright I told her that the rhubarb pie was so delicious that I've felt like Bob Wiley at the dinner table scene on "What About Bob" and she totally laughed and thought it was epic!
Love this scene for one it makes me hungry and two because it makes you feel like your right at the dinner table with them. I miss family dinners. Home cooked meals. I took that for granted growing up. Miss it alot. Because now i eat food from cans or vending machines. Sometimes i cook on the grill but not often. Point is enjoy your family and the meals. Not everyone has this option.

This scene makes me laugh every time, and I can relate to it as well. Whenever I try new foods, and I happen to really like it... I can't stop going "Mmmm," and I end up annoying the hell out of everybody that's around me eating :P
The really funny thing is that this wasn’t in the script. Bill Murray improvised it all. The Farrelly brothers said it best when they said when you’re directing bill Murray you never cut the camera. You just let him keep going.

@@DawnNY I’m more intrigued by everything that was happening behind the scenes that we know of. Bill Murray REALLY got under Richard Dreyfus’s skin and REALLY annoyed him and angered him. It’s actually rumored that bill Murray got him so mad that they damn near went at it and Dreyfuss quit the movie, but then the producers convinced him to come back after a few days. Murray would throw stuff at him to make him really angry and get under his skin.

Dreyfuss even spoke at scheider’s funeral. But Dreyfuss today says that working with Bill Murray was an absolute nightmare and he will never even be in the same room as him ever again. I truly think that when Dreyfuss is yelling and screaming at Bill Murray later in the movie, that’s not acting. That’s him really about to lose it with Bill Murray.

Bob has engaged every family member at the table except Leo. Noticing Leo is uncomfortable, Bob decides to engage him on a level where Leo is perhaps more comfortable, that of patient and doctor, and, as a patient, asks his doctor if he has a salt substitute. Leo responds, however, very awkwardly, and it concerns both Bob and Fay at that point.

This scene makes me laugh every time, and I can relate to it as well. Whenever I try new foods, and I happen to really like it... I can't stop going "Mmmm," and I end up annoying the hell out of everybody that's around me eating :P
I'm pretty sure this is the best comedy film ever made. This and 'The Jerk' ...
The really funny thing is that this wasn’t in the script. Bill Murray improvised it all. The Farrelly brothers said it best when they said when you’re directing bill Murray you never cut the camera. You just let him keep going.
My family has watched this movie more times than I can count. We quote the dinner scene all the time. "pile it high and deep" . Thanks for the fun fact. Glad they let Bill Murray be Bill Murphy.

@@DawnNY I’m more intrigued by everything that was happening behind the scenes that we know of. Bill Murray REALLY got under Richard Dreyfus’s skin and REALLY annoyed him and angered him. It’s actually rumored that bill Murray got him so mad that they damn near went at it and Dreyfuss quit the movie, but then the producers convinced him to come back after a few days. Murray would throw stuff at him to make him really angry and get under his skin.

Our families are all watching the "older" movies. This one is by far one of my favorites. I make my college age niece and nephew laugh every time I quote it. They can recite it too.
A movie for all ages( if you have a sense of humour). As someone else wrote. It's criminally underrated. 🏆
@@DawnNY well I know that during jaws Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss did have a rivalry during filming but then after filming was done they both became good friends years later. Dreyfuss even spoke at scheider’s funeral. But Dreyfuss today says that working with Bill Murray was an absolute nightmare and he will never even be in the same room as him ever again. I truly think that when Dreyfuss is yelling and screaming at Bill Murray later in the movie, that’s not acting. That’s him really about to lose it with Bill Murray.

Bob has engaged every family member at the table except Leo. Noticing Leo is uncomfortable, Bob decides to engage him on a level where Leo is perhaps more comfortable, that of patient and doctor, and, as a patient, asks his doctor if he has a salt substitute. Leo responds, however, very awkwardly, and it concerns both Bob and Fay at that point.
