2009 = DX11 , Windows 7 ,core i5, Assassin's creed 2 , Crysis 2 , Modern warfare 2 , NFS Shift , Sims 3 , PSP GO ... what a great year in Computer History ....
I just switched from ATI HD 3650 to Nvidia 260GTX and the result in windows was showed clear 2D improvements. WoW and Mirror's Edge are stunning Before it was a little blurry since my screen wants 1900x1200 also in 3D.
@Resky89 it's taken from pretty old demostration of Parallax occlusion mapping, if you wanna see that (i think it's really interesting) search for: ati toy shop. Or something like that xD
There is a big difference. DX 10.1 requires fine grained task switching which NVIDIA still hasn't been able to grasp. Unified shaders, common GPGPU standards to follow (no propritary bad stuffs) also stands out. Awesome games like modern warfare and crysis use DX9, which was released in 2003. Be patient, it is always good to have the latest tech. Well at least if there arent too many bugs :)
Yea we covered it in Virtual Reality. They still use the gloves and headset for immersion. The technology still really is in its infancy tho there are moves by I think toshiba to release TVs with 3d technology. Wonder how well 3 monitor + 3d vision works. It would be killer in frames tho
@jookur Yeah,i totally agree with you it is faster but without the physx feature...Physx is really amazing and is exclusive on nvidia cards i think. Now its like Nvidia(dx11+physx) VS Ati(dx11+performance)...Right??
@darkbasic86 ati had a programmable tessellater starting with the HD series, but it was proprietary, therefore there aren't many games which used it, similar to PhysX, except ATI's tessellation was not included in UDK so it didn't become as popular
@Observer &captainclayman Yes, that's what I'm planning to do. Just ordered a HD5670 1GB and am thinking of getting a GT9400 sometime in future for PhysX computations (a setup that would work with Windows7 only as of now).
You're running DirectX 11 sw, but in 2 weeks the first Dx11 cards will arrive (HD5870), Dx11 supports loads of older cards. Don't worry I need a new vidcard too to utilize real dx11 fx. only 2 weeks left, yay
did you see last sequences in DX11 and even more ?? I had to see multiple times before realizing that was ALL digital realtime rendering and not just character........................... !!!! I was shocked too ;) I cant wait for NVIDIA answer ;)
Last time I tried it was a copy of jaws. I cant remember how I got hold of it. While it sorta worked it wasnt great. Want to see some of those newer releases in the Cinema atm. can take the GF lol.
i dont know anything about mobile gpu's, i was talking about graphic cards (geforce) and ive been using nvidia for 6-7 years and no bugs with me, except quad core board which would fix with a board update(titan quest expansion wont run)
for 3d you need a 120Hz monitor, "special" glasses and a decent video card. At 1050 (22") frams drop by half with 3d enabled. Think it only runs on nvidia hardware too. The new 5 series cards tho have more displayoutputs. ATI is pushing multimonitor setup with eye infinity. Afterall, those console ports don't really push the hardware
@Bojaxs: the 360 and PS3 will *always* be Directx 9.0c. This is not a software thing, their graphics chips simply can't perform the specific operations required for this kind of graphics. Those consoles are five year old designs after all, three generations of graphics cards happened in the meantime.
@rsg191 shooting a hole trough a wall would be nice maybe for dx12 :p just a hole where i can look trough not a 2 or 3d crater on the wall where the buled had an impact
Looks nice... but which game really uses all the possibilities of directx10/11... ? these tech demos are great but i dont think we will be able to play games in this quality soon ^^
Partly due to working closely with microsoft for DX11. If you cast back to 2 years ago tho Nvidia released their 2xx cards first and charged a bomb for them. ATI also failed compared to the 8-series cards. The HD4 really was an epic series for them.
ATI has been working on GPU physics as long as Nvidia, but they haven't implemented it in a single game. They can make all the tech demo's they want, they are irrelevant if they are not willing to fund its use in any games. As for games that use it Mirror's Edge, Batman AA, Cryostasis, and Sacred 2 are just a few.
Right. It's just tough for people that don't know enough to make the right choice. For example someone taking a 9400GT over a 8800 GT, they may think the 9400 is a much better chip, all the while it's bottom line, entry level versus mainstream just one gen behind, but really not even a half gen behind because the 9 series were really only faster, nothing new. I see this happen so often, just in posts in forums for games I play. Too often someone's already made a purchase without advice..
XFX have only been supplying ATI cards since the 4 series. They use to be exclusive Nvidia. sapphire does the bulk of reference cards plus the awsome vapour-x coolers. ATM I would choose ATI simply because of lower power draw and eyefinity. 3D is cool but still seems gimiky to me. Cant wait till fremi relaese tho. Current predictions say feb/march 2010 is most likely. ATI have their 5970 (4870 x2) poised for release soon. probally to challange that release.
@Daniosek94 It is a 4800 series demo and video . What this demo shows for ex. ? U can see that no one strategy game can run much units 3D . If too much units , pc lags and CPU occupation is too high . For ex. the developpers of cossacks, a GSC strategy game, which run until 32 000 units on screen in very good 2 D , wanted to launch the strategy game with same number of units but they never succeed to do it . GSC dreamt it and AMD maked it . This demo shows that AMD GPU solutions ...
They supply equivalent graphics cards at lower prices and with drivers that are superior to that of ATI, ignoring windows7's lack of support of coarse.
At the end of the day for me price vs performance is what I go for. I picked a GTX260 up recently over the HD4870 (both about £99) simply because gigabyte done 3 years warranty. Until fremi and launch prices are over I wouldnt write Nvidia off, tho reports are bleak for the 3xx series
If You like what it does for You, Yes! Compared to the newest and hippest stuff out there? Maybe not. But a lot of people would be satisfied with what You got :)
@Daniosek94 @Daniosek94 ...can run ithink more than tens thousands of real 3D units in real time ( unit by unit of course , as cossacks but in 3D . It shows that AMD can do it thanks to the calculation power of their GPU .
@JpeltakaCyberBeast Thats because those are 5000 series cards! The ATI Radeon brand is not being used anymore for new cards. That means that when the 6000 series comes out they will just be AMD Radeon and all cards from then on will not be ATI. I'm sorry this is so difficult for people to accept, (I hate it too) but the ATI brand name is defunct.
@Voikanaa Now I don't want to sound like a fanboy but the PhysX feature is only available on NVIDIA. I'm trying to buy either the ATI HD5670 1GB or the (NVIDIA GTS250 512MB) for a pc at home, and the ONLY feature that's tilting my opinion towards the NVIDIA is the PhysX. Anyone want to help me decide please?
most of you dont know what your talking about, dx11 will directly incorporate hardware while dx10 mostly uses software, so using the hardware in directx will actually speed up fps buy something like 40fps on most games!, also the tesselation thing they have works on models in all games so can actually add more detail to something like 85% of all games at the moment and also inprove preformance and looks, dx11 is the next gen for pc hardware, pcs are always one step ahead of consoles
@colter13 4550? Dude, that's an entry card - not a gaming card. If you want a gaming card you should have got anything above the 4690. My HD4870 is still going strong.
Not really they are just using old technology but they won't be able to push is any further. With old tech they need to use a lot more components to make keep up with Ati because they have a bigger processor size which is why it is more expensive because it cost more to produce and with Ati they are getting smaller and faster at the same time. First terabyte card, first gddr5, first 40nm, and will be first directx 11 card ( already working).
WOW But both comanys are good but Nvidea's 295(around $480) is about $100 more than a 5870(around $380) for about 10frams diffrence, so why pay more? Id like to see the 300s and if they will "annihilate" like you say. But im happy with my 4870 till all the prices drop.
@ATLracing Oh wait no Im thinking of another company, Yeah ATi was bought by AMD but ATi still work on there own, they just combine there products with AMD processors more often than an Intel processor.
competition is great for us gamers.. I don't think proprietary stuff like Physx is the way to go.. Anyone remember Glide? To this day I STILL can't play certain really OLD games because they were run on Glide. Obviously game developer would rather use something like OpenCL so that ATI and Nvidia users could both benefit.
it would be easier to admire how much graphics have improved if these demos were still available for download, most links seem to be dead
Last demo had ray tracing???
2009 = DX11 , Windows 7 ,core i5, Assassin's creed 2 , Crysis 2 , Modern warfare 2 , NFS Shift , Sims 3 , PSP GO ... what a great year in Computer History ....
@Mcstikman Yeah but you can't update it. You just have to stick to the version that came with the console.
...Is the video from 2:01 to 2:08 really in Real Time??? It is absolutely fantastic! it seems like a film! o_O
Oh this makes me nostalgic. seeing how technology has evolved... dx9.0c still looks sweet though
depends on resolution and game settings. Bit-tech/custompc reviewed it a few months ago.
hey whats soft shadows and depth of field?
@Jhewt Really, isn't Crossfire/SLI basicly the same thing? Or am I missing something major?
I don't agree but I love that you're not trying to insult ATI--just stating your opinion. We should all be able to respect that.
Download link for the program at the end?
I just switched from ATI HD 3650 to Nvidia 260GTX and the result in windows was showed clear 2D improvements. WoW and Mirror's Edge are stunning Before it was a little blurry since my screen wants 1900x1200 also in 3D.
Does anyone know the name of the games that were shown with DX10 and 10.1?
What game or benchmark is at 1:57?
I wonder what song is that on the background. It matches the video very well and it's kind of epic :D
@teckim cheers for adding that. I heard that Global foundries could take over production.
I wonder what song is that one in the background, it matches the video incredibly and makes for an epic feeling :D.
1:58 what game is that?
Yea we covered it in Virtual Reality. They still use the gloves and headset for immersion. The technology still really is in its infancy tho there are moves by I think toshiba to release TVs with 3d technology. Wonder how well 3 monitor + 3d vision works. It would be killer in frames tho
We've come such a long way in such short time. I'm looking forward to plugging into my games matrix style. ;)
@overclockeador Exactly. And finding a good driver to an older card is a miracle.
@colter13 didn't see the date. Was looking at those actually since I want a DirectX 11 card...
is the footage from ~ 1:25 a game?
I never said they are, I talked about consoles limiting factor on cross platform games.
@jookur Yeah,i totally agree with you it is faster but without the physx feature...Physx is really amazing and is exclusive on nvidia cards i think.
Now its like Nvidia(dx11+physx) VS Ati(dx11+performance)...Right??

@chewisz I had no problem running 1920x1200 on xp
2:03 whats that game please ?
@vikramvaranasi yes they are
what game is on 2:02?
@Observer &captainclayman
Yes, that's what I'm planning to do. Just ordered a HD5670 1GB and am thinking of getting a GT9400 sometime in future for PhysX computations (a setup that would work with Windows7 only as of now).

Don't worry I need a new vidcard too to utilize real dx11 fx. only 2 weeks left, yay
Me too. This video was just a mock up of old stuff, with only a small glip at the end.
what is the name of the game in 2:03 ?
@Jhewt I think you can force real-time ray tacing in STALKER games, it needs to be tweaked though, because maximum settings simply kill any hardware
i see, so currently ATI doesent have phisx? or it has something else that does the same job? gaming without phisx would suck
This vid is cool it just made me pump up. I always like the ruby demos, I hope they're working hard on a new one.
did you see last sequences in DX11 and even more ?? I had to see multiple times before realizing that was ALL digital realtime rendering and not just character........................... !!!! I was shocked too ;)
I cant wait for NVIDIA answer ;)
dang. looks like i'll be saving for the 5000 series this christmas :D
Last time I tried it was a copy of jaws. I cant remember how I got hold of it. While it sorta worked it wasnt great. Want to see some of those newer releases in the Cinema atm. can take the GF lol.
at 01:26
what is that game ? GTAIV ?
i dont know anything about mobile gpu's, i was talking about graphic cards (geforce) and ive been using nvidia for 6-7 years and no bugs with me, except quad core board which would fix with a board update(titan quest expansion wont run)
theres a 4890 x2?
three titles to emerge this year. forgot which though, read it in a german hardware magazine
for 3d you need a 120Hz monitor, "special" glasses and a decent video card. At 1050 (22") frams drop by half with 3d enabled. Think it only runs on nvidia hardware too. Are the 360 and PS3 still on Directx 9.0c?
ATI had huge production problems with the HD5870 cards and some small roblems (now solved) with force AA not working in games.
@Bojaxs: the 360 and PS3 will *always* be Directx 9.0c. This is not a software thing, their graphics chips simply can't perform the specific operations required for this kind of graphics. All graphics cards should fit into a standard x16 PCI-E slot. The Memory differences is more speed, latacency and bandwidth than physical shape.
Looks nice... but which game really uses all the possibilities of directx10/11... ? these tech demos are great but i dont think we will be able to play games in this quality soon ^^

@SynodCenturion that's gotta be the most "subjective" comparison between AMD and Nvidia
@Lucanio Intel makes integrated graphics on low-end motherboards but not dedicated graphics cards.
makes textures look 3D
2:03 OMG Realtime ?! Which card can do that ?
it starts with transform and lighting hadware and finish on shader model 4.0
Right. It's just tough for people that don't know enough to make the right choice. you have a point there, one of the things about nvidia cards that suck is that they are expensive (what is iphone GPU ATI? :O )
1:28 THE 2ND BUILDING FROM THE RIGHT
ghost busters HQ???
@darkbasic86 directX 10.1 had hardware tesselation, but was never used in a game as far as I know.
XFX have only been supplying ATI cards since the 4 series. They use to be exclusive Nvidia. sapphire does the bulk of reference cards plus the awsome vapour-x coolers. AMD showcases the technology,NVIDIA masters it and unlocks the potential.oh i'm kinda sad for the 52 people who weren't ready for what's next :(
In the way that you can run Crysis in 1920x1200 on highest with x8 AA and still get around 30-40 fps
If You like what it does for You, Yes!
Compared to the newest and hippest stuff out there? Maybe not. But a lot of people would be satisfied with what You got :)

Now with the hybrid boards we will soon get the best of both worlds!
@nightdevil22666 Or you could put an Nvidia card next to your ATI for PhysX processing. Seen people do it already :). Best of both worlds!
@JpeltakaCyberBeast Thats because those are 5000 series cards! The ATI Radeon brand is not being used anymore for new cards. That Girl you keep seeing is not in anygame. She is the ATI mascot that they use in demos
Why don't you think Nvidia will simply port Physx to OpenCL, I mean they were the first to show an OpenCL demo.
@Voikanaa
Now I don't want to sound like a fanboy but the PhysX feature is only available on NVIDIA.

however Nvidia's benchmarking programs are interactive so there's something to look into

Directx11 + Crysis = Epicness
I'm happy with directx 10.1 ... BUT I WANT MOAR
Without amd we'd never have had dual cores.
So considering modern games look like the 2003 tech demo... we will play games that look like the directx 11 demo in 2015.
Enjoy the wait.
yep i'm ready! So what is it?? does anyone know?
LAst time I checked we've had 1920x1200 since XP. It has more to do with your screen and GPU then your OS.
Not really they are just using old technology but they won't be able to push is any further. Что ето за игра при конце (Там где тёлка)??
@ATLracing AMD made ATi, nothing is being dissolved its the same as its always been
WOW

RUBY!!! Ruby ruby ruby ruby ruby ruby
This is why I loved ATI and I hope I can still love AMD. RUBY!
@ATLracing Oh wait no Im thinking of another company, Yeah ATi was bought by AMD but ATi still work on there own, they just combine there products with AMD processors more often than an Intel processor.
@Bojaxs yeah
you can have an ATI card as your main card and an Nvidia card as a dedicated physX card.
competition is great for us gamers.. I don't think proprietary stuff like Physx is the way to go.. Anyone remember Glide? To this day I STILL can't play certain really OLD games because they were run on Glide. holy shit in only 2 years you have awesome graphics!!
how fast past the time.....
DX9 is soo gooood, no wonder gaystation and cockbox have been using it for the past 5 years.
