I went from a Marantz 7015, to the Anthem MRX740. Anthem Amps used on both. So mainly processing. Though I do miss that soft Marantz sound I enjoyed for music on my Klipsch RF7-IIIS. The Movie experience has been a mind blowing improvement. It did take me 2 weekends to really dial it in though. Hahahaha. Completely satisfied 💯

A worthwhile video that make a good point, there is a learning curve to Anthem AVR and processors as well as ARC-g. I was quite pleased with my upgrade from a Denon 4311 to Anthem’s MRX-1120. Since then, I am using the 1120 as a processor, having added external amplifiers.
The AVM70/90 would be a major step up in fidelity from the added benefits of each unit over the previous generation. Looking forward to your experience with the AVM70 and glad you got some help with the set up and calibration. That should allow for a plausible comparison.

Hey Youthman, first I want to say I love watching your channel. I recently upgraded to an Anthem MRX740 8K, and getting used to ARC Genesis took awhile. From some of the comments I see that you feel like you have lost some of the punch from your subwoofers. I also had this issue, and I was very upset considering that these units are not cheap. After doing lots of tweaking and lots of ARC measurements I have finally got my system sounding amazing, and the bass is right on point. When running ARC it will always tell me to turn down my sub, I decided to ignore that and push through. I then edit my ARC file and increase the Room Gain and Deep Bass Boost. After doing that my bass was much better but still was lacking a hard hit. I then decided to just increase the gain on the back of my subwoofer, and I also increased the subwoofer trim slightly on the Anthem. WOW what a difference!! My speakers sound amazing and my subwoofer now slams, but doesn't overpower my speakers. I am running my 26 year old Miller and Kreisel S150 THX on left, center and right, Miller and Kreisel SS150-THX Tripoles for the rears, 2 in ceiling Atmos speakers, and a Miller and Kreisel MX350 THX subwoofer.

We did a few demos from the back row as we still had the calibration mic setup. We were at -10dB and it was quite loud. That’s typically what I run on my Marantz but it seemed louder on the Anthem.
My JTR 212HTR’s have a sensitivity of 101dB with 1 watt from 1 meter so it shouldn’t have any issues reaching Reference and beyond.

    Hey Youthman
My dad has just reacently purchased the AVM90 for his system and has been getting me to set it up for him (im 19 and we're both really into home theatre and hifi). We initially also experienced a lack of punch and tactile feel in the lower bass after doing the initial setup. After many days/weeks of experimenting with sub placement and various settings, i found that if you lower the sub trims in the prosessor to the lowest they go (-12db) and then compensate by turning up the gain an equal amount on the actual sub, this brings all the punch and life back to the subs that was previously missing.
Im not sure if you've fixed the bass in your system already but if not it might be worth trying on your system to see.

Everyone who has an AVM90 swears it’s a sonic improvement over the AVM70. Many people upgrade from their AVM70 to the 90, and I don’t know if the improvements is just confirmation bias, or if they’re really hearing 2x sonic improvement (twice the price)?
You have shared your experience with the community, the sonic improvements between the SR8015 and the AV7706, even though the SR8015 on paper, has better specs and measurements.
Your continued sharing of experiences is super anticipated between the honest feedback between the 7706 vs the AVM70, sonic differences.
In the recent podcast with Ryan, you mentioned you removed the MiniDSP from your signal chain to simplify the setup when swapping products etc. Would be super curious to hear your feedback on Audyssey out of the box, vs optimized measurements via MiniDSP, vs ARC out of the box! So many people spend hours if not weeks chasing the sonic rabbit. Is the flat frequency response really that much better than Audyssey out of the box? Or are we just hearing all the time spent, the visual appeal of a flat line, and the desire to have better performance?
    Thank you kindly…

Hey YM, great video as always.
Slightly off topic. Have you had any experience with the Yamaha A8A? My Denon x6500h died after just 4 years so need to look for a replacement and due to the denon lasting such a short period of time given its price, I’m not really keen on replacing it with another denon like the 6700 or 6800. I thought about going the marantz 8015 but seeing denon and marantz are the same company, I am not overly comfortable going that path either.
I need an 11.2 receiver as I have 7 klipsch RPM series speakers and 4 SBS elevation primes as the atmos channels. So that left me looking at the Yamaha A8A. Do you have any experience or thoughts on this receiver (its use would be for 98% movies and 2% music).
    Thanks for the content.

It’s been many many years since I had experience with Yamaha. It was one of my early AVR’s, the RXV-1800. I have not reviewed any of their newer models.

@@Youthman thanks anyway. Funnily enough I also had the RXV-1800, then the 2700, then the 3073 and now the 1075 (in the lounge room). None of them ever missed a beat and still all working all these years later. I just don’t know anything about the newer models and if they are as good for movies as the Denon/Marantz gear. (Their warranty screams reliability though and that they must stand by their product as the A8A comes with a 10 year warranty being 5 standard and 5 extended when you register it on the Yamaha site. Unheard of, at least for me).

ARC still remains buggy. I used to love my AVM60 and was anxious for these to come out. I've since bought the HTP-1, which now has boot loop bug worked out finally. I couldn't go back to ARC after using Dirac for the past two years. The AVM90 is interesting with the extra sub outs to 19 channels, but I don't trust ARC still.

So far, the process was super smooth with only one minor issue. At first we didn’t get any sound during calibration. But once we turned it off and back on, everything worked perfectly through the entire calibration process.
I’ll definitely take note of any issues I run into using the unit over the next few weeks

Hey Michael, how are you? This is a little off topic. I had asked you about speakers, and you advised that I download REW, and get a Umik-1. At that time, I didn’t, but, now I have downloaded REW, and I just received my Umik-1. What I need help with, I don’t know what settings to click on. Can you help me? I know you might be busy, so, any help I get would be appreciated!

Anthem is a Paradigm affiliate aren't they? I just got a pair of Paradigm Monitor SE6000F tower speakers and I absolutely LOVE them.....saving my pennies to get a pair of SE Atom bookshelves to use as rear surrounds, compliment my front towers, and allowing me to move my small rear surrounds into front height positions to go with my middle heights( don't worry the heights will be all the same😉) so I can have 4 height speakers instead of two and expand my rear sound stage.....can't wait!!
I have a Denon 8K Network AVR which does the trick very nicely but can't imagine how much better the Anthem would be!
Also, if you don't mind, what was the title of the music track playing during the opening montage? I've heard it in many videos but can't put a name to it.

Why is that? My setup is a 7.2.4 with (3) JTR Noesis 212HTR for LCR, (8) JTR 110HT-SL for surrounds and Atmos and (2) JTR Captivator RS2 subwoofers.
The AVM70 has all of the features that I would need. I’m only running dual subs so I don’t need the extra sub outs.

It very well could be better. If someone spends twice as much on the 90 and swaps out it for their 70, that alone can introduce a lot of bias into the differences they perceive to hear.
