Great DIY video, so glad to see someone added the inline fan and explained it. I have built six of these for a haunt attraction and it does beat lugging bags of ice around every night. One thing to note is you may have to play the balance game of the fog output setting on the remote and in-line fan speed. ** The big plus is it also gives us Yard Haunters to option to run our fog effect multiple nights without the time/cost of ice refilling.
I have the Chauvet Cumulus, which is basically what this DIY setup is doing. I freeze water bottles and put them in the hose to cool and slow the fog. I just refreeze them every night.
Great setup! That tote is really good, though a bit smaller than I'd like. The clear lid is a bonus because it will let you see if your mister stops working for whatever reason.
@@chvydrptop A bigger tote will give you a longer flow time between fog machine cycles. You want the blower to just barely be pulling mist from the box, not blasting it out. My big box will pump out fog for almost 2 minutes between fog machine cycles.
@@hardiehardley The much smaller tote may have something to do with it, or that may be the 4in version of that blower, which someone told me can be dialed down slower. Could be the 4in hose as opposed to my 3in. Might be a combo of all 3. With these setups being new and everyone making them using different parts there is not going to be any one "best way" of making it. Ultrasonic chillers have been around in professionally made models for years that cost 1000s of dollars. Me and Robart (Intocoasters on TH-cam) were probably the 1st to make homemade versions of these things and both of us did a lot of guessing and tinkering to figure it out. Robert's was first with his fish tank experiment, then I made my first sloppy attempt in a tote based on his design, then made improvements in my V2 build. From there a bunch of others have made other changes and improvements in their builds. A perfect build will come along someday. For now everyone will have to tinker with the basics to find what works best for them.
Great video man! People don't understand that in order to purchase a single manufactured unit capable of creating low-lying fog like this, they'll need to spend well over $1k. I'm in the process of building my "version" of your machine now. One thing I'd suggest if you aren't already. Make your own fog juice. 30% Vegetable Glycerin (Amazon) and 70% Distilled water. A few notes. Be sure you get food-grade VG. Always mix it thoroughly. You'll immediately notice a HUGE difference in the density of the fog! Make sure not to make it too thick, or it'll clog the oil-pump. If the pump does get clogged, put the pump tube in distilled water & vinegar (50/50) and let it run. It should clear it out. You can always upgrade the oil-pump inside the fogger as well. Lots of options for that online.
@@jcardona1 place fog machine back an inch from tube, what i do is i get bags of ice, in a flexi tub, pour salt on them, it makes the ice colder, dunno just science, fill your husky up, then put mist generator in, then add water the salted ice will bring the temprature of water down, but wont freeze....add fog machine, this is a cheaper alterinitve to dry ice, i learnt this trick from the events industry when we couldnt use dry ice in a smaller venue
I've been contemplating building one of these, but wondered how you'd been getting on with it? Does the water need topped up frequently in the crate? I was also worried about the inline fan getting damaged pulling through the moist foggy air
Yeah you certainly could. When I first started building it I wasn't sure if I would need to have the fog machine right up to the inlet so I decided to run it through the lid. But it works just fine with a few inches of space, plenty of room for the cord.
Where did you find the electrical conduit fittings? I have looked online at Amazon, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. and cannot seem to find this specific male/female 3" threaded conduit. Great build, by the way. Planning on doing it myself once I can figure out everything I need, etc. Thanks!
I tend to agree. I bought a complete 1200 watt unit recently for under $400. It works perfectly fine. but at the cost of all the parts and pieces for this I think its not really worth it to DIY this. I did DIY an ice chiller version a few years ago using chicken wire and a rubber maid container with a cheap 400 watt fogger. It works really well but I have to use a lot of ice to fill it. I think the ice version works better than the sonic mister version and is far cheaper...
The 12 head ultrasonic misters can be purchased for 80.00 .....just try to buy a factory produced similar fogger setup for under 450.00.......because it includes a warranty!!!!!
@rocknrolljesus3197 I bought mine for under $400 with a warranty... and I haven't seen a fogger head that size for under $200. Plus the cost of the fog machine... plus mine came with DMX control.

@@C4ptainRedbeard yeah it definitely it does. I wasn't happy with the Chauvet unit in the video and returned it. Bit the bullet and bought a Titan 1200. Pricey but the output is soooo much better.

Does the tote size make a big difference? Being that the fan is pulling mist/fog out, it never really has a long stay inside. thanks!

He managed to make the same duct fan you tried and found unsuitable work well enough, what do you think the differing factor is?

How much continuous run time will you get from this set up?
What is the room temperature if you had to guess?

It does, with mine, i connected a garden hose to the tank with a float valve, it keeps it at the same depth all the time then.
Couldn’t you run the ply for the mister through the duct where the fogger is? Then you wouldn’t have to drill, seal and splice?
Yeah you certainly could. When I first started building it I wasn't sure if I would need to have the fog machine right up to the inlet so I decided to run it through the lid. But it works just fine with a few inches of space, plenty of room for the cord.
Does the fan make noise after a prolonged period due to moisture

@@psychpatientI've always bought these from my local Lowe's. They have a ton of different fittings in the electrical section.
I think a $150 for a single part plus at least 50% more for a housing would be more than I'd pay for a complete unit, shipped, with a warranty.

I don't think I can put links here, but the fan I used is "Hon&Guan 4 Inch Inline Booster Duct Fan with Speed Controller" from Amazon.

I currently have a 400w unit how did it perform in comparison with the 1000W unit?
